Mirror suggesting MUFC may step up interest in Leighton Baines.

-Sukesh

Believable14 Unbelievable7

Let's hope Baines is not a target. Waste of money on an average player

Agree0 Disagree0

According to newspapers United will bid 16M for Baines

Agree0 Disagree0

He's worth no more than a million

Agree0 Disagree0

Too old and not good enough for United.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can someone be to old at 27yrs old! that when players peak!. and is far better going forward than evra! and is well worth 22 million!....scousejohn

Agree0 Disagree0

£22m?

LOL, I would prefer Izaguirre for £5m.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

If I ever sell my car I hope scousejohn buys it, it's crap but well worth 20k, bit like Baines!

Lille coach Rudi Garcia has confirmed Mathieu Debuchy wants to leave the club, but said he will not be sold until a suitable replacement is found.

Debuchy's future has looked uncertain since the end of the French season after he helped Lille finish in third place before going on to represent France at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.

Newcastle United and Inter are just two of the clubs believed to be interested in the full-back but Garcia said he will not be going anywhere until a quality replacement is found.

"Mathieu wants to go," Garcia told RMC. "But we do not have a plan for him to leave, so he will not go unless I find a replacement of the same level.

"And he is an international player, he will not go cheap - we will need to bring in a right-sided player of the same calibre and that requires a lot of money.

"If we find a player, it will cost us and we will have to pay that.

"Mathieu is one of my leaders, one of my major players and he is an example to follow. I understand his desire to leave, but we must find a replacement - my role is not to put my team in jeopardy."

Everton expected to sell Leighton Baines... No medical or fee has been finalised yet but talks between Man Utd and Everton are at an advanced stage. Expect deal to be announced in the coming days.

fearny

Believable11 Unbelievable11

Your talking rubbish mate United and Everton are nowhere near to agreeing a fee due to Everton wanting 20m, this one is going to drag out unless United pay what Everton want.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see why we're looking at a lb in my opinion I think we should just put fabio as first choice rafa didn't go on loan did he?

Wen fabio played he looked better than rafa obviously fergie thought so hence why he picked him for cl final, Evra as back up and also jonny

Agree0 Disagree0

What your beef with being so sure it's 20 million or no way. Everton won't turn down a figure over 14 cash that's enough to buy a replacement and pee-nah and put some in the clubs coffers !

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for not leaving a name... I will be expecting an apology when it is announced

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that he won't cost £20m that's ridiculous money for a decent 27 yr old LB. He won't be going anywhere at that price. I'd also say £12-14m seems a fair valuation and it'd only be that high because he's English and has PL experience IMO

"Waste of money on an average player" Mate what do you think 90% of our squad is, world class..think not!

Agree0 Disagree0

Very over rated player, hope he doesnt come to manutd.English players being over priced again, what a joke.If united were to try and sign someone for that money put a bid for jordi alba, way better player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please no .... what a waste of money

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton are not as desperate for money as you all seem to think, so anything under 20m will be rejected unless you offer a decant player and not one of your cast offs then the figure might drop to 15m. Toffeecrisp

Agree0 Disagree0

No one said Everton were desperate you just have to realise they are walking a fine line and with little money doing very well. However they will continue to run their transfer activity based on what's right for the club and if a reasonable offer cis beneficial they won't say no. Forget dreaming of 20 mill for a lb. in that case we would still get 13 for evra

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Fearny that we are on the verge of signing Baines. Suggest £15m will secure him. Which makes the £11m Barca have just paid for Jordi Alba most likely the best value purchase of the summer! Doh!

just read that lucio has ended his contract with inter, does any one else think he could be a great addition to united especially for free! and he could be used as cover for vidic for the first couple of months as he will obviously not be 100 percent fit after such a long time out and could be great competition for rio

Yep

Andyred

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he'd be after a big wage and I also think we should give our youngsters and squad players a chance before buying in. I'm hoping Vidic will be close to fit for the start but if not then we can pick 2 from Rio/Smalling/Evans/Jones. Not exactly a desperate situation to be in

i heard we bid 30 million for rodriguez and was rejected is this true JT RED

Believable13 Unbelievable18

This is true, but united are set to up the offer to £36 mil

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we need someone to replace Oliver Norwood. Rodriguez & Modric would be unbelievable. I really think Petrucci will set the Prem on fire on loan this season. When Scholes leaves & Petrucci becomes a midfield general with Tunnicliffe we'll say who needs Pogba & Morrison anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

They have said a bid was rejected but no news has been confirmed as to how much we bid as I'm aware there have been 2 bids one by us.

I think we've had an offer rejected but highly doubt it was £30m. I doubt even more that we would return with a £36m bid!

It's all speculation but I have a sneeky feeling we offered something like £16-18m + Anderson. Like I said I'm just guessing

Gav

If we did and supposedly this is true surely we could get someone more needed like maybe even ozil for 30M

Now do I have all your attention,a little birdie I shared digs with way back in 1978/9 who is very high up at Eastlands informs me that Utd are being forced into doing a deal for Baines and wait for it Rodwell 2 reasons Everton are in desperate need of funds and spurs are on Rodwells trail utd want Baines now but were willing to see how Rodwell does this season ie fitness wise.
Fergie rates both highly and allowed Gibson to go providing Kenwright allowed 1st option on Rodwell

Sir Alex reveals Shinji Kagawa and
Nick Powell will be on the entire
pre-season tour. Rio, Carrick and
Park, too.

It looks like Rio and Park may be going because they might not get much playing time during the season as usual? Rooney isn't going because he needs resting. It looks like Rio will be a back up CB for Smalling or Vidic? Thoughts guys?

-JakeW

Believable6 Unbelievable16

I don't really know what to make of the two CB positions...Vidic is obviously number one choice, but as for who gets the other place I really don't know! Options in Smalling, Jones, Evans and Rio but to be honest, none of them stand out for me! Rio is no spring chicken and, while still technically a great player, the younger attackers would run rings around him come the 60/70 minute mark! I reckon it'll be Evans and Vidic though. I'm quite happy to see Park on the tour and hopefully he won't leave...yeah we could sell him, but we won't gain much cash for him and having a solid, hard working midfielder as an impact sub could be pretty good! Baines, Cabaye and Rodriguez to fill the other positions that we're lacking in and we're sorted, but to be honest i'd be happy with two of the three!

Agree0 Disagree0

-JakeW-,
how the hell have you come up with those conclusions about Rio and Park just because its been announced they're going on the tour!?

Andy B

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidic is number one and has two years of top class football in him. We need to play one of younger players along side him as much as possible next year to learn. I think smalling would be the best option. Let Jones carry on being the utility man but replace vidic in two years once smalling is world class. Ferdinand is a true united great but i think it is time for him to move on

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope to see a fully fit vidic back ready for the season!

Kompany who?

Chris!

Agree0 Disagree0

Okay so going on the tour means less game time this season... Forgot Ferdinand and Carrick were major parts of the team last season and they played a full part in the tour.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was suggesting it guys, I was just thinking if they go pre-season the might not get as much playing time, You never know what Alex is up to! I would personally like to see Evans and Vidic together with Jones and Smalling as the back ups on smaller games.. Ferdinand will most probabaly be our reserve defender as his age is catching up on him, My opinion though! -JakeW

Agree0 Disagree0

They are going on the whole tour because they havnt played alot or any football over the summer while over players have and need an extended rest

Agree0 Disagree0

Think last season Ferdinand showed he is still a class defender.
Perhaps he can't take the demands week in week out with all the back problems he has but he's still better than most of the Premier Leagues other CD's.
I'd like to see Jones playing NOT as a RB. He needs games in his natural CB position, as does Smalling. Both will be great players if they're given the chances.
Evans and Vidic could well be our starting CB's, though i'd prefer Smalling/Jones and Vidic.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see Jones/Evans partnering Vidic and Smalling as RB, Ferdinand as a back up defender. As much as i like Rio, we can't rely on him like we used to be able to. Smallings done a great job at RB on the couple of occasions i've seen him playing there.

Believable8 Unbelievable13

Hi there. I work at a large UK bank as the Eds will be able to verify from my email address.

I've heard from a colleague in the foreign exhange department that Man United have a forward contract option to purchase Euro's at a good rate until the end of August.

Whilst this doesn't tell us who we are looking to bring in, it does suggest the club are prepared to spend on an overseas player. I don't know the amount.

This could possibly be linked to the bid for Rodriguez, and if I hear any more I'll repost.

Apologies this couldn't be more specific but the option is for Euro's and a number of countries use this currency.

Adz {Ed002's Note - I can confirm that Adz does indeed work for a large (at least for now) UK bank.}

Believable12 Unbelievable7

A proper "banker" then!

J - Stand
(Obvious....but worth it)

Agree0 Disagree0

To Adz,
do you know if this would be common practice for the club to have this sort of arrangment in place for every transfer window incase of any deal taking place or do you think this would be lined up with a specific transfer in mind/place?

Andy B

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you know if this happens every year? Or is it unusual for united to do this?
NWDA

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe its to pay for Kagawa? Dortmund being in Germany, who use the Euro, and the international window opening very shortly?

Agree0 Disagree0

Very tricky negotiations going on with Athletic Bilbao
Tiger

Agree0 Disagree0

This is the first time that I have posted but thus is clearly the most rediculous thing I have read on this site.

Are we really supposed to believe that Utd need a load of Euros to payoff a player like they are a teenager off on their holidays, did they also order a bumbag to put them in.

I am pretty sure that a transaction of this scale between two sizeable international businesses would happen by a bank transfer of some description.

These bankers are taking things too far now with their fantasies.

Also I am sure the eds will confirm from my email address that I am a normal bloke with half a brain and not some banker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you buy Euros now as the currency is dropping each day. If you have money in the bank you just electronic transfer it in sterling and get a better rate. Thought you worked in a bank.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have some experience in international payments and if there is a known payment in a foreign currency then it is not uncommon to buy forward the foreign currency as it restricts exchange rate risk. If you make a bank transfer of some description as one poster put it then it would likely be at spot rate and likely on a major £25plus million deal could give a major exchange rate loss or gain of course. That is why currency is bought forward at a rate the club are happy with. Perfectly feasible to do what the OP suggested and would make sense for a transfer. If it related to Kagawa it would depend when they expected to pay. It sounds like the club have given themselves room to deal in Europe. Sorry if too technical but OP could be accurate

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

Airlines often do the same with fuel. They negotiate a fixed rate based on a high volume. It can save millions per annum. It make perfect sense for United to do something similar with the Euro, especially since it has been dropping steadily for several months and has started to bounce back a few percent recently.

Ryan

Agree0 Disagree0

Good one Ed, lets hope he isn't called Adam or his second name isn't Adams or he will receive a P45 pretty soon. Cannot be many Adams where he works ;)

So David Gill claims there are 2 more signings to be made this summer.

I think the 2 United want are Modric and Baines. But that doesn't mean they will definitely get them.

Rumour has it that Spurs will let Modric go to Real Madrid as long as Sahin is involved in the deal. Recent news though, claims that Sahin doesn't want to leave Real Madrid... which could put this transfer on hold.

If United want Modric so much, then now is the time to put a bid in for him or else I think we'll miss out on yet another big player.

The only stumbling block for Baines is the price Everton want for him. United are ready to table a £12 million bid plus add on's due to appearances and future success. While Everton rate Baines at around £18 million.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Rodriguez and Baines... Not Modric

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

Fearney sorry to correct you it's Baines and Rodwell with wait for it Muniain to follow.
Sir Alex is working hard to sort all three before the tour.

Tiger2

Agree0 Disagree0

Tiger2 what has Eastlands got to do with Utd

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

If munian signs for united i will personally give him a lift the old Trafford to sign the papers.

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance Munain will come to OT. As for Baines, overpriced. Barca only paid £11m to get Alba so why should Baines be worth more? As for Rodwell, if United sign this sick note then we might as well give up and it will prove once again that Fergie and the person Phelan have both lost their heads.
If we want to compete with cited, ReL and Barca, then our owners and management better start bucking up their ideas. We don't need any more Tosic, Bebe, Obertan...
Alas, we will not go for the big players like Modric, Rodrigues, van persie, hummels, but instead we'll keep buying cheap players with the hope they'll come good.
Unfortunately fergie keeps telling us there is no value in the market while citeh keep buying all the best players, Aguerro, Silva, Nasri etc...
Until Glazers decide to sell this cash cow, and Fergie decides to leave, then we are on a downward spiral.

looks like park is definitely not leaving this summer as SAF is quoted in saying he is eager to work with the established player in the pre-season and ji sung park was one of the mentioned
G-Rav

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Don't be surprised to see Park leave after the preseason tour.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Bless him, we love him, got to go though!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney, what makes you think he'd leave after the pre season tour? I think SAF would like to keep him as an example to all the young players of what work rate they should be giving. Park is a true professional, just had a huge dip of form in the big pressure games we put him in towards the end of the season..

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Please ignore ridiculous statements about park leaving ! He loves the club, saf loves his proffesional approach and commitment , the glazers love him and the real sypporters do too. Who do you think out the senior players will be there to help kagawa to integrate into our FAMILY club. Sidney stick your neck out or hang on the fence. I'm surprised you don't know how things work inside the club. There is no value in releasing a senior player when we're trying to compete for every trophy his wages and sell on value are negligible compared to his worth to the club. DISNEY !

Agree0 Disagree0

Parks not hit a dip of form sadly, his legs are going. He did warn the club of this before he signed his new deal. He was worried about his energy levels and his fitness and made that clear. Last season proved he is starting to slow down and he is running out of puff. Some people seem to think the club is a charity and we will keep players on just so we do not hurt their feelings. When the manager knows it's time for a player to be moved on he will move them on. Giggs, Scholes, Ferdinand, Carrick etc, we have enough experience around the squad.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't be surprised to see Park stay after the pre-season tour.

Melbourne!

Agree0 Disagree0

Park himself said he can do 1 more year at Utd so I think its a no brainer he will have this last season

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't read anything into who will travel pre season with us this year simply because we're down to the bare bones of the squad.
Fergie is scraping the bottom of the barrel selecting enough players, remembering that many of our players who played in Euro's and Olympics will not be travelling.
Have to agree that Park is over the hill. His performances last year were pretty shocking. If im not mistaken, when Park played, we lost.
His inclusion might be necessity rather than choice.

I don't think man utd are out of Modric chase but I feel we are getting closer to the deal, Man Utd has a lot of money this season and according to a report Man Utd offered Hazard more wages than Chelsea. Not so much a rumour but a question for the Eds, Syd or anyone really.

I seem to remember a few seasons ago Manchester United were interested in Racing Santaders Sergio Canales, but he opted for Madrid. I know he was loaned out to another Spanish club, but his progress at Madrid has stalled. Given the large number of midfield players there and that they are looking at strengthening this area once again would he be a player that could move to Old Trafford?

From when i've seen him play he's looked quality and would be a good addition to the team.

Adz {Ed002's Note - Canales missed most of the season with a crutiate injury but remains at Valencia. He is on a loan to buy deal and will not be moving to Old Trafford next season. I suspect that the player has no interest in a move away from Spain as demonstrated by the previous interest of Manchester City and Arsenal being rejected.}

30m extravagant?! Ha! Moyes won't sell Fellaini for less than 26m on his own; that's his buyout clause. Baines won't go for less than 20m. Moyes also won't accept a failed player. Such bull, although we all hope to get players on the cheap.

Believable12 Unbelievable12

I think Fellaini is worth around £18m, although I can understand why Everton would want more as they paid £16m for him. Baines is approaching 28, but would carry a premium as he is English. I think he is worth perhaps £12m. So although £30m is probably what they are worth in today's market, Everton will value them more as they are important players to the club.

I do believe the rumour is also bull.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes wont accept a failed player ? what about gibson !

Agree0 Disagree0

As an everton fan i think moyes would be looking for at least £40m for the pair. There has been rumours of chelsea interested in fellaini at £30m and we would get at least £15-18m for baines. I didnt rate gibson at all but he has been quality for us so you never know how good someone like macheda could turn out with more first team action
Cheeks

Agree0 Disagree0

I 'used' to respect moyes!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha moyes won't sell for less than x amount ? Moyes is an Everton employee and the final say will not be his . Although he would like to keep hold of certain players their transfer value to Everton is dependant on many factors which he has no dealings . If we approach ,the board will assess the offer on its suitability to efc not moyes valuation. SANDY!

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sorry mate but the final say on who leaves Everton does belong to moyes. The Everton board dare not go against him as he will leave, so there you have it.

I'm sorry mate but don't believe everything you read I am friends with a lot of blue fans season ticket , with friends playing for the club youth and ex pro,s . They all say the same thing. Kenwright has and will always do what he believes is best for the club no matter how much he is out of touch with the current way the game is going. If its right for the club he decides with the board there trying hard to keep a long standing club out of the red and compete the best they can.if that were the case he'd have gone already . The key point is he is an employee mate !

Manchester United are still in with a very good chance of Modric, in the metro today, claiming the Sahin will not take part in any swap deal as he is happy in Madrid, best news I've heard in ages!:D

Valencia always have been a club that sells. £500m debt doesn't help either. La Liga has turned into the SPL.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Not quite that simp,e Syd, but still.}

A half built stadium they are struggling to afford to finish and the previously mentioned £500m debts.

However they have remained remarkably competitive considering they have had to sell Villa, Silva, Albiol, Mata, Aimar etc. They have continued to replace them with cheaper players who have thrived (Soldado, Alba, Rami, Feghouli, Banega, Piatti, Ruiz, Parejo). They are still very entertaining to watch and the scouting system is something other clubs should envy.

Ed, since madrid are looking to sign modric do you think we can bid for Sahin ? looks a very good player .

desiRed. {Ed002's Note - I would not think that Manchester United's transfer policy is based on another clubs purchases.}
