Rumour that a cheeky bid of €40M has gone in for Declan Rice.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Cant see that being enough to sign him and I dont rate him highly enough to bid any higher}

30 Mar 2019 04:18:03
I guess we’ll see if it’s just a rumour or if it’s real interest.

I like Rice, he looks a real talent. However, we have Garner coming through who could be a real talent. I think with Matic, Herrera, Fred and McTominay all able to play in a more defensive role in midfield we could afford to not sign a player like Rice and gently blood Garner.

For the money involved I'd rather put it towards the defence to be honest. Something tells me if he moves it'll be to City. Then 3 years on loan before vanishing.

{Ed004's Note - Not good enough on the ball for a Pep side}

Cant see anyone else going in for him.

Think he’s already good enough to get in our midfield.
Matic is slowing up and the others are only average bar Pogba on his day. Even then we still need more creativity from somewhere.

A different question from me but why is the bid in Euros not pounds. We are in the PL, so are West Ham. I think that in itself means the rumour is most likely false/ inaccurate. Or maybe I am being stupid.

{Ed002's Note - It will have come from some mainland European website I imagine.}

Hi Ed002,
It appears Man Utd are looking to the Portuguese league again with Felix João, Ferndandes (Sporting) and Ruben Dias.

Are these players being scouted for the summer transfer window? Any chance of a quick list of potential targets? Please :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Please try searching - this has all been dealt with before.}

29 Mar 2019 10:20:55
All 3 are of interest to United and all the 3 were Jose Mourinho targets.

Why are people so obsessed with transfers? Its like its a separate part of the game to see who people are going to buy all the time.

Its only since Woodward came in that the transfers have been more of a priority than the football. Under Gill and SAF I don't remember people being this bothered every day about whos coming in.

Not sure FZZ. We used to continually moan about the " no value in the market" excuse every window. although ironically it could not be more true over the last few windows where we have spent silly money.

I find it really interesting see what direction we are got in.

Looks like we are going back to making galaticos than signing them which is welcomed.

Interesting to see us look to the Portuguese league again. Felix kid looks a prospect.

Maybe because we are desperate for some new players which requires a transfer window.

Obsessed by transfers, yes, I remember the club buying Ted McDougal from Bournemouth I think, and we were all disappointed. It has always been of high interest. I was there when Bryan Robson signed on the pitch in 81 and the ground was highly excited.

We had years of excuses under the Glazers, no value. Then in recent years spent a reasonable level of money in a strange way, almost like we had no direction, who would have thought that.

An article just came out saying United's two candidates for the DoF role are internal. John Mutagh and Marcel Bout?

Murtagh was discussed when his name first came up, does anyone know anything about Bout? (no pun intended)

Marcel Bout is one of the best choice as per Ed002 if I remember correctly.
Hope there is some truth in those reports.

Hi,
Interesting piece in the Telegraph. Suggests it may be a Technical Director rather than a Director of Football. The Techhnical Director would work with the manager and both report into CEO.

Bout time we got this sorted.

What exactly is the difference between a tech director and a DoF - is it level of influence or seniority in structure, or just one position having two titles?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - A DoF would be responsible for all footballing sides and the scouting system. Typically a TD would be responsible for the scouting and often setting a style of play.}

29 Mar 2019 12:18:46
What do you think Bout is a good choice? Just curious. What are his qualities?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Bout has extensive coaching experience, particularly at Feyenoord and Bayern Munich and joined Manchester United with LvG in a scouting role, for which he is very well respected in the business. I don't recall what I said before but you can search the site.}

29 Mar 2019 13:56:31
Thanks for clarifying that Ed. if we have shifted our focus to finding a TD then i take that as Woodward wanting to keep first team matters under his thumb. Not a good thing as he has gone far too long and caused many issues simply because there is no one to challenge his opinion and stance on matters he has little experience with.
On the plus side us moving towards establishing a style of play should make our recruitment better in the long term. LvG tried to do this by getting all the footballing teams playing the same way and changing the scouting / training. Only issue was his style did not suit what the fans wanted.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am far from convinced.}

29 Mar 2019 14:46:54
I am not convinced either Ed. Unless Woodward wants to trust others' with more experience in footballing matters and let go a little, the structure is not going to do its job. But as a fan, i can only hope he does soon and enjoy the good football in the meanwhile.

Given Bout was brought in by LVG would he not want to bring in players to match LVG’s style instinctively?

Mixed reactions for Ole's appointment.

But what about the backroom staffs will all of them continue, is it implied? Will Phelan McKenna and Carrick continue? Anyone else has any info?

No, they are all leaving this summer and will be replaced by none other than Ed Woodward in a cost cutting/ power grabbing exercise.
