Arsenal seem to finally be making some real efforts to sign a top player the day after they qualified for the Champions League group stages. It’s being reported that they have put in a bid for Rennes’ Yann M’Villa.

According to the Guardian Arsenal had a previous bid of £15 million rejected for the holding midfielder and have now put in a second improved bid.

M’Villa is a 21-year-old defensive midfielder who has played 11 games for the French national team. He has been with Rennes since 2004, making his senior debut in 2009 and has played in 85 games for the club.

HERBIE {Ed007's Note - He got sent off the other week playing against CFC in the Europa League, from what I have seen and saw of him that night, I am not overly impressed TBH Herbie.}

He's not a player thats overly impressed me either Ed, There are better options I think.... HERBIE

Ed007, sounds like he had a bad game! He does have talent you can't question that! I'm just not sure what he'd be like in the EPL it's not the easiest league to play in let's be honest..

I think its typical Wenger, grab the hot French kid, but he'll chuck him in and expect him to do it all on his own without an experienced player alongside him to help him settle.

I'm not syaing i don't think he's good enough but he's never really impressed me either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yet again seems to me that some people have watched a player once and makes an opinion .... it's very easy to see that rennes had a bad game overall that night? ii mean for them to lose to cfc says it all.... the player is also a target of milan and madrid and previously qquoted 35million for him ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well he is good..not bad at all for that price..bargain tbh ifits just 15 million

I know Arsenal were the most interested of the english clubs, or at least it looked that way a few weeks back. Chelsea are having problems in that area of the pitch with Essien out and Mikel not performing as well as expected. But yes like you, i too think he looks a fantastic player for the future!

Arsenal - apparantly 23million offer

This guy would be worth the cash. Come on SAF, get in there.

I would love to see a holding player quick and strong and from what i have seen of him he can pass a ball, definatley worth the money, now all we need is a nother midfielder who can play further forward likve christian Eriksen from Ajax he looks a great player.

Are Man Utd going to sign Gary Cahill in January? His contract is up in the summer I think, so he would go cheap enough compared to what he is valued.
I was also wondering if he'd start?
Vidic will definetly start, but we have Jones, who has been playing brilliantly and Ferdinand is still a great defender although he has lost some of his pace. Smalling is also a great centre back.

What do you think Ed? {Ed002's Note - Cahill will certainly move in January. There is a slim chance that he may go to Old Trafford.}

Believable6 Unbelievable30

Thanks Ed002, would he start though-we have Vidic,Jones,Ferdinand and Smalling? They are 4 brilliant centre backs. {Ed002's Note - I am sure there is a youngster or two as well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We dont need Cahill its midfield we are badly lacking, I know people are sick of hearing about schjnder(sorry for the spelling) but does anybody reckon we might go for him in Jan and maybe pick him up for 20 million? Anybody know if we will go for a centre forwad in the summer as Berba might be on the way out

United are looking at 21 year old CB Ryan Bennett of Peterborough. Perhaps a player swap could be on the cards? Norwood, Drinkwater or Matty James with Wootton & Tunnicliffe staying on loan?

I was thinking as well, when SAF said that they're aren't many players out there that could improve our midfield that are available at the moment. I think he might have been referring more or less to Wesley, purely because we went for him. But he'd be cup-tied if we bought him in january. A cheap deal could be a possibility next summer, honestly can't see him sticking around much longer at Inter, i think they're going to try and cut their wage bill quite radically. I have a feeling SAF will only spend money on an experienced player if needs be because cleverley is far to good to block with another young gun.

I'm thinking Barcelona will attempt to sign Cahill. With Puyol getting older and uglier, they don't have much cover at the back. Seeing as they're not really strapped for cash at the moment, Cahill would be a good cheap option for them.

I think the mention of Ryan Bennett is nothing more than an attempt to drive up the price. With several clubs allegedly interested in the lad Ferguson Jnr is probably looking to get the best price possible. Both he and the chairman have mentioned United publicly and I suspect that, if we genuinely were interested, things would be done with a certain amount of discression.

Guys, Fergie constantly talks about this wonderful big squad he has so do you really see anyone coming in January. Unfortunately i really doubt it.

Personally speaking i would love to this squad, cause times we have been stretched, our midfield overrun and honestly no where near the team of old.

Like Parker, Cahill is another good signing on the cheap which we will let go. Yeah we have Vidic but every month theres talk him going somewhere, Ferdinard best days are behind him, leaving Jones/Smalling who are constantly leaving gaps when we are short. On top of our rotation system i wouldn't think theres an issue of getting him a space.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill a good player but some people don't seem to rate a player until his played well in a united shirt.
take young a lot of people didnt want us to sign him but after a couple of good games for united everyone seemed to rate him yet he'd been playing well for villa for years.
parker is an other example i didn't want us to sign him in the summer, i wanted a bigger name but i was wrong he would of been a great signing.
now look at cahill been playing well for bolton for a number of years proven in the pl will be in the england squad and will be v cheap , what have we got to lose

Good player but we have 7 or 8 defenders that are capable of playing in the first team. Smalling, Jones, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Rafael, Fabio, Evans. Do we really need to spend £15 million if not more on another defender?

The problem we have is in the midfield. Anderson hasn't had one good game since Cleverley got injured. Cleverley, I think will eventually turn injury prone so we really do need another midfielder... and a class one at that.

Who though, I don't know. Whether Fergie will spend £35m if not more in the January transfer window... I doubt it very much.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rio will leave in the summer and vidic is now 30 still a great defender but looks to have lost a yard of pace and constantly linked with a move away.depending on fee cahill would be a quality cheap addittion.
