I think the two major areas that require assistance would be the CBs and a proper holding midfielder. Lets face it, Ferdinand isnt the type of quality he was and Vidic is burdened with injuries. Jones ans Smalling also haven't really been what we thought they would be. Getting a player like Hummels would be very expensive and it would IMO restrict the growth of Smalling and Jones. We should get hold of someone like Jagielka/Huth/Shawcross. Not very expensive yet very experienced with the EPL style of playing. In terms of a midfielder, ppl are saying Strootman, bt since I've never seen him play, our best probable option would be to lure Vidal from Juventus. Italian football os going through a rough patch and I'm sure he wouldnt mind coming over to a better club in a better league.

Agree2 Disagree0

I am actually a big fan of both smalling and jones and think they can both be excellent centre backs, give them a chance.
Carl

So Strootman isn't an option because you haven't seen him play? Didn't realise you were that big a deal. Fair play mate.

Matt

Agree0 Disagree1

Phil Jones 20
Smalling 22

What were you expecting exactly?

Red Joe

Agree3 Disagree0

Smalling hasn´t been what we thought he would be ?? Everytime he played for us he has been excellent.

Without his injury he would walk into that United team. The lad is a beast.

a few young plays that i personaly think could benifit man utd sakho strong comanding cb to replace aging rio santon pacey fullback to replace evra matias fernandez great crosser and passser and excelent penalty taker to replace giggs gorgio wijnaldum plays all through middle of the park awsome creativaty and good tackle perfect to replace schooles mvila would be ideal to replace carrick good distribution and a real ball winner all young and not major price tags except for maybe sakho but fergy paid big for rio then built defence round him any thought on these or other sujestions ???

I don´t think anyone of the players you mentioned would improve us. Sakho is massively overrated. The PSG fans i know always tell me how he´s prone to lots of stupid fouls.

Santon is only decent for Newcastle and the others are nowhere near United class.

Agree0 Disagree0

Punctuation wouldn't hurt?

Agree0 Disagree0

No name
Fernandez isnt a winger... he plays in the hole and yes he usedf to play for villareal..now he doesnt get in the Sporting Lisbon team often
DJ

"punctuation wouldn't hurt?" is that a question?
Too much punctuation perhaps :-)

Guys, I was watching the lfc and Everton game and I watched one player and it wasn't sterling like every lfc fans say he is incredible well he was poor but the one player who really stood out or me was Baines, he was excellent great runs and crosses great set piece we need him i think he would be better than evra as he can defend. We really missed a trick in getting him. Eds is it possible we will go in for him in january?

Caolán. {Ed007's Note - I can't see there being any move for him and I'm still not convinced there was any actual interest in the summer.}

I'm sure United had a genuine interest in Baines and the season so far simply underlines why...he reminds me of Dennis Irwin - the bloke is the real deal - work rate, forward support, he can actually defend (unlike some) and dead ball skills and above all else - consistency. So why didn't United sign him? I think out of SAF's respect for Moyes - who would not have wanted to lose one of his key players. The irony being since those rumours - it's taken his game up another notch - it happens - good luck to him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sterling will be class in a couple of years and will be a regular in the England team.
He is only 17 years old and light years ahead of his time. His composure and passing is superb and he has bags of pace and can beat a man with ease, he can also cross the ball.
I hate to admit it!

Simmo

And did you watch soccer am he is also there fastest player as well

Agree1 Disagree0

No i watched the game Mr.No Name.
You obviously have your silly red blinkers on again. If a player doesn't play for united then he is crap.

Guys how highly do you rate van Persie? For me he is the most complete striker we have had since cantona, today he held the ball up well, nearly had a hat trick brilliant goal and created chance for everyone, what a player that 24 million is starting to look like a bargin!

Caolán.

Believable47 Unbelievable6

I reckon he's the best striker in the world.

G.A.G.U.S

Agree5 Disagree0

Same G.A.G.U.S I think he is a lot better than falcao.

Caolán.

Agree4 Disagree0

Rvp is just what we needed! I agree that he's the best in the world, he makes everything look so easy. We might have a bit of a week defence, but with rvp, wazza, chicha and bamby were always gonna score goals. Were gonna get our title back. No 20 because of no20

Agree3 Disagree0

Only Messi and Ronaldo are better in a forward position imo.24mill was a huge bargain, without him we would find goals much harder to come by.

Agree3 Disagree0

How good is Van Persie? i asked my mate this question last night.

He is the complete package - great shot, feet, passing, positioning, crosser and more importantly a great football brain.

Alot of people didnt want us to sign him due to the wages and the fact he is injury prone but the 24m and the wages have been well worth it - talented to no end!
He and Rooney are beginning to form am outstanding partnership and putting Chico or welbeck into that we are reaping the benefits.

Yesterdays game for 30mins we were brilliant - was it due to the 442? Valencia and Young were a hand full but chelsea are a great team and wasnt surprised they clawed it back - think the game would have been different if we got to half time 2 nil up.
When we get our defence back - Vidic, Smalling and Jones i think we will become more solid and will be very hard for teams to come and beat us.

Van Persie is a different type to Cantona, maybe hasn't got quite the same creation but he is better! Cantona could never do it in Europe. Van Persie does it everywhere, including for Holland when he plays!

Agree3 Disagree0

Will only be worth it if we win prem title or champions league 12/13.

Cantona as good as he was , was not a striker , Hughes - or cole played in front of him. Just saying :)
SHANDY !

Agree2 Disagree0

There's no doubt that RVP is one of the best strikers in world football and his contribution so far this season has been fantastic but i think it's a little premature for people to be saying that were gonna win this and that.
Yes the Strikers are hitting the right notes but the midfield is still desperate.
I thought that Cleverley was totally out of his depth yesterday and struggled to keep up with the high tempo pace and passing hence the reason why Fergie brought him off.
Carrick now looks very slow and age isn't on his side.
If we bought one midfielder in in January maybe a Strootman i think it would make us alot stronger.
For me Cleverley isn't the answer, yes he is only young and still learning but against powerful midfields like Chelsea, City he will struggle big time.
What a great result anyway, puts us right back in the race again!.

Simmo

Agree2 Disagree0

I think RVP is amazing so far.
Definitely our best player. way ahead of Rooney so far this season.
I hate to see how another great talent (Kagawa) seems to be wasted by playing him out of position.

I'd love to see someone like Tunners or Petrucci given a chance on Wednesday in DM next to Fletcher or Scholes in a 4-2-3-1, before going out and spending millions on another not-so-great(-yet?) mid like Powell just to see our great talent leave frustrated.

Jonny8

Agree2 Disagree0

Like Powell, Jonny8 have you lost your marbles? Powell has been given what... a full 45 minutes since he has been with us and he smashed a 25 yard shot in!! He is two footed, has great vision and is seen to be one for the future.......If you were a chairman, fergie wouldnt have got to month 2!! Buzbo

Agree1 Disagree1

Ranks up there alongside Van Nistelrooy who was with us during a period of transition.
Trawlerman.

Agree1 Disagree0

I never said Powell is not talented.
All I am saying is he is just what we already have/had, young and very talented.
What we don't have is a really good (not even worldclass needed) in his prime.
It would be so much easier for all the talent to break through if they had a great player to play next to.
Scholes had the freedom to play next to Keane, who was alone dominating other teams, so Scholesy was not under immediate pressure to play amazing, what coincidently he did!
Same reason we are seeing so many midfielders making the cut at Barcelona, they have the peace of mind of playing alongside two great midfielders, whoever they may be in the exact lineup!

Same goes for the call for (another) playmaker. We have Kagawa who is one the most creative playmakers in the world right now, we have Rooney who is not too shabby, we have Cleverly who could play that role, etc.
But they have to do too much tracking back to cover the TWO DMs playing behind them.

To me the sole problem is DM right now. They are leaving the back 4 way too exposed, therefore burdening our creative flair players with too much defensive work, which robs them of the energy to do what they are best at doing.
THey should receive the ball around the center circle, instead they have to tackle around our own box!

I'd love to see Powell/Tunners/Petrucci/Cleverly/Lingard/etc. given a chance every other week, but can anyone see them starting alongside Carrick?
NO, but I could see them start alongside say Khedira/Vidal/Martinez/etc.

Jonny8

Agree0 Disagree1

I think The quality and class he brings to us is second to none. He'll become a legend at the club in a small amount of years. Arguably the best forward to grace old Trafford.

Agree2 Disagree0

My personal opinion is van persie is the best number 10 type striker who can player football ect but falcoa is the best number 9 in world he has a better goals per minute ratio than messi and ronaldo an is the only player who scores close to thm in world football an is playing for a far weaker team
