Sporting have told Manchester United they can sign William carvalho for no less than 37 million

Believable35 Unbelievable11

No deal then.

Agree3 Disagree1

I don't get why people would say no deal?. Yeah sure 37 million is a lot for a unproven premier league player. But the money's not coming out off your pocket or mine? It's come from the winning seasons and all the competitions we've won. Why not spash the cash if it's there?

Agree2 Disagree1

We will sign him I think but the football world has gone mad with these prices being banded around, clubs know we are desperate to rebuild so were going to be ripped off left right and centre. I don't care frankly paying over the odds because its not my money, after paying an obscene amount for fellaini can we expect anything else.

Agree2 Disagree0

Too much.

Agree0 Disagree1

Well_be_black, because that money could go towards other players, I'd much rather pay £5m more for Vidal

Agree3 Disagree0

Every player is over priced now adays.
Ronaldo and messi are the best players in the world yet bale is the most expensive player ever?

Carvalho is 21 what if he turns out to be a yaya toure? We'd soon then be saying it was a good purchase

Agree1 Disagree0

Anon Vidal would be my first choice pick all day that's not the point the point is carvalho is very highly rated. Vidal is a world class proven player no doubt but what of carvalho can become just as good? 21 Aswell we could get a good 10-12 years from him

Agree1 Disagree1

Well_be_back, Fresh said it as if United officials will scrimp and not pay that fee. Hence the comment

Agree0 Disagree0

Bennett what when we've just paid out 30+ million on a left back and 30 on a midfielder?. But yeah united officials ain't willing to splash out

Agree1 Disagree0

Well-be-back- bale was a huge fee but suarez is worth more, so are messi and ronaldo if they was ever sold. but agree with you splash the cash them days of getting a bargain player are over, if these players help us win trophies that money is getting re-payed, E.g- RVP, £24mill. won us the prem almost single handedly.

Agree1 Disagree1

Alright, no need to get so touchy! I was just trying to help explain but oh well, here we go again.

We've paid those fee's for proven players in proven leagues. Carvalho is coming from the Portuguese league and well, given the past few years of thrifting by United officials, the doubt is there for some United supporters about how much we'll pay for certain players. Also, Fresh is Ed Woodward so I'd listen if he says no deal ;)

As much as i'd love us to sign Vidal I just really don't see it happening.

According to the guy at Sky Italia we haven't even made contact for him.

@Ed002

With Real Madrid interested in James Rodriguez, what is the situation with Di Maria and is there any interest in him from Manchester United, this transfer window?

Believable5 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - They are looking to sell him. There is no recent interest from MU - that may change. There is a longer answer on another thread.}

02 Jul 2014 16:07:18
Ed002 if you have a spare minute. Has anything changed with regards to Arturo Vidal? Are Juve still adamant he is definitely staying and have United actually made any kind of approach to the club or players agent?

Also, any truth that Madrid want to offload DiMaria so that they can go after Rodriguez? If so, is he a player United have been showing an interest in very recently?

Thank you.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Vidal moved to Juventus after spurning good offers from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. If he were to come up for sale, I understand Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid would be interested. Barcelona has dropped their interest now. Real Madrid would propose a player exchange deal but that may not suit Juventus who want to keep the player and are willing to sacrifice Pogba to do so. So nothing has changed.

I do not know if they have yet submitted a bid but Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all interested in Di Maria. There has been an offer from Monaco and an rejected PSG offer, although they may well return with another offer. If he cannot stay at Real Madrid, the player would not object to a move to Italy should the opportunity arise and Juventus may give him that opportunity, perhaps as part of a package deal that could see players being exchanged. If not, he would be beyond the means of Juventus without them selling either of their prized assets. Madrid were keen to hang on to him but are now looking to raise money and Jorge Mendes has been looking for a deal for the player and has persuaded Real Madrid to provide a price at which they would sell him. He is however in danger of pricing him out of the market with some pretty outrageous wage demands.}

Thanks ed, much appreciated.

I know Evra has just signed an extension with United, but I've heard from friends (pure lunch time speculation I suspect) that he is now in talks with Juventus?

Believable12 Unbelievable12

Juventus are interested in Evra.

Agree1 Disagree0

So I've heard Sydney! But if Evra was interested in Juventus, would he not have signed for them instead of extending his contract with us? Or is he doing United a "favour" so we can get something out of the deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

RD -

I'm not sure exactly how his contract was structured but there's every chance that the club had the option to extend his contract by one year and thus Evra had little choice in the matter.

I expect, however, that there's no foundation to these rumours and he agreed to stay on an extra year while Shaw settled.

Time will tell.

Agree1 Disagree0

Correct R7, MU had an option to extend by a year. Berbatov had a similar clause, now so do Shaw and Herrera.

Agree0 Disagree0

Conspiracy Theory Time!

United extended the contract forcing Evra to stay, all the while planning on using him as a make weight for a deal with Juventus for either Vidal or Pobga ;o)

Reality
I suspect it is as you suggest, that Evra is there to help Shaw settle.

Agree0 Disagree1

RedDub, it's possible, but then why would Evra in the twilight of his career waste a season playing back-up to Shaw? I think he would prefer a move to warmer climes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd -

Who is to say that Evra had a choice in the matter? If Evra goes we will have lost 3 lb's in 6 months and be left with no backup. I very much doubt he will leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 17:28:50
Evras contract was structured so at a point in time the optionwod be taken up. hence the extra year.
For Utd this does not stop them getting Shaw and leaves them with good cover if Evra stays or a transfer fee if he goes so a win win.
I could see him being used in Vidal negotiations if juve want him.
Question is do we have any decent left backs in the juniors as cover or do we look to get blind as left back/holding midfield cover if Evra goes?

Agree0 Disagree0

R7, I tend to agree, but that doesn't mean Ev doesn't want to leave. We may have triggered a clause, but he still wants to leave. I guess if we are linked to anymore LB's in the next couple of weeks, then it could be an indication. But I agree that in all likelihood he will probably remain a back-up and leave for free next summer.

Reports in Italy that we have bid 32 million euros for cuadrado. Really? Ed's?

Believable12 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - An auction between Monaco, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona would suit Fiorentina and the clubs are all aware of this.}

I hope we get Cuadrado. He looks very intelligent in his crossing and combining, something you don't always see in such a talented dribbler. A very exciting player.

Agree1 Disagree1

I seem to recall seeing him playing as a rwb earlier on in his career. Could that be why we're interested perhaps?

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Jul 2014 11:40:46
hi edds, love the work! just wondering is there any interest in Cuadrado? he looks a great tricky, pacy winger with Colombia!

thanks again for the work, 1st thing I check in a morning!

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Juan Guillermo Cuadrado has been subject to the interest of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Juventus and his co-owners, Fiorentina & Udinese. Manchester United, Spurs and Liverpool have had the player watched. Juventus has confirmed that they will not be following up. Barcelona were looking to replace Dani Alves with Cuadrado but due to the delay in the sale of Alves have lost out to Fiorentina who have finalised the purchase of the rights held by Udinese. That will allow them full control over the future of the player. An auction between Monaco, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona would suit them and the clubs are all aware of this - else they will keep him another season.}

Ed002. I no you don't like to answer anything as possibilities. But you no more than anyone on here. So I would love to hear your views on Vidal and carvalho, do you see one of them joining united this summer or are the Vidal rumours just rubbish. Thanks

Believable6 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Vidal moved to Juventus after spurning good offers from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Real Madrid would propose a player exchange deal but that may not suit Juventus who want to keep the player and are willing to sacrifice Pogba to do so.

There is interest in Carvalho from a number of clubs still and there have been fairly recent approaches by Monaco, Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. Juventus and Chelsea have passed on previous interest because of the cost. Sporting would ideally like to keep him a year or two more. The asking price will likely beyond what Arsenal would want to pay. Atletico and Inter would look for a different solution financially. Jorge Mendes was in Manchester in late January to talk to the club about him and was in the UK at the end of March talking to another club about two players. Whether or not he met with Manchester United or not I don't know. At best I would think they have told him that they would like to take the player and would like to sit down with Sporting and him to see if a deal can be done - but they know the price and it is significant and there seems little room for negotiation. Liverpool looked at the player earlier in the year but I am not aware of any interest right now. Monaco should not be discounted. It is understood that after the appointment of van Gaal an enquiry was made with Manchester United to establish if they were still interested in the player - and I understand that the club has said that they are.}

Thanks Ed002 for the info

With pogbas agent coming out and saying he won't move anywhere this summer does that mean there's a better chance than there might have been to sign vidal?

Cheers in advance

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is early yet, I would not take anything said about Pogba at face value.}

02 Jul 2014 19:37:36
Great answer Ed002, much appreciated

Ed, do you have any updates about Vidal?
thanks.

Question for Ed002 if you can spare a couple minutes? Is there any latest on Carvalho, there are tons of rumours suggesting Sporting are willing to negotiate a lower fee and that there is a MU delegation in Portugal trying to do just that. Is there any developments that you know of? Thanks.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed but Sporting will need to negotiate in order to sell if that is what they want to do. They say the price is as set. Monaco should not be discounted from making a bid. It is understood that after the appointment of van Gaal an enquiry was made with Manchester United to establish if they were still interested in the player - and I understand that the club has said that they are.}

the young dundee midfielder we were supposed to be interested in last season ryan gauld has signed a 6 year deal with sporting lisbon which includes a 60 million euro buy out clause.
