are the pogba stories on caughtoffside legit, says he has signed for Juve or is this just the old story being re-run for space sake?

Believable7 Unbelievable11

I wouldnt believe anything from caughtoffside!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Caughtoffsh1te is run by a bunch of kids who just dream up of these ridiculous transfer stories. Wouldn't pay the slightest attention to them if I were you mate.

James

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless it's news from an official source, namely the club or player themselves, then you'd be wise to class it as inaccurate.

Caught Offside get their "news" from the same place everyone else does, and are no less reliable than the other footy news outlets clammering for your attention.
They don't report their own news, they just use other peoples. Same as they all do.
AP or Reuters are your source of almost all "news".

Bob {Ed007's Note - Caughtoffsh1te get their news by paying kids to make up semi-believable (sometimes) attention grabbing headlines to draw people in. I call it 'hit whoring', sensational headlines on Twatter and the likes to draw gullible people in, (it helps their advertising believe it or not), and they do have their 'writers' to pay. I know this as a fact, so don't give me any patter about them using any reliable news agencies for their 'stories'. Their method's are well known.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The same could be said of The Sun, or any tabloid rag. Their news comes from "reliable sources", apparently, but are no more believable/reliable than Caught Offside.

They might manipulate headlines, as most sites do, but the stories are the same as everywhere else.

I understand your desire to discredit them though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the news Ed007. Sounds quite disgusting, and foolish when yourselves are able to get free semi-believable made up nonsense here.
Invisible STuey { Ed007's Note - And we don't get paid a dime mate. We never say anything that we don't believe 100% correct at the time, rather than just tell people what they want to hear or to get hits onto the site (hit-whoring). We don't need or want to resort to that level or become that type of site.

P.S. MoneyPenny works for a well known card/gift chain of shops. Mario Gotze was in today buying a Boofle Bear for Javier Martinez. He was with his agent (who my wife instantly recognised) and he said he is due at a hospital in Burnley (not Bridgewater or even Carrington in order to keep it QT, the wife asked him) for a medical tomorrow and was meeting Martinez and his agent in our local Subway. The four of them were then driving down together in a hired Ford Focus. He was worried about what music Martinez would like to listen to in the car as he had forgotten his Walkman apparently. We live just outside Glasgow, so this must be true. But it's an exclusive so don't tell anyone yet, thanks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant many of the posters on here not the Eds though it is a rumour site, so of course all round very little can be based on actual facts at the end of the day.

Former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique, 25, tops manager Sir Alex Ferguson's shopping list as he plans to splash the cash to reel in Manchester City next season.

Would love to see Pique at the back with Vidic, and down the line, with Jones. Would he leave Barca though? And how much would he cost?

Believable14 Unbelievable27

Why would he leave Barca? When do we ever resign players? The only player we would resign is Ronaldo.

Didn't we have a clause when we sold him back that we got first refusal on him if he was sold again by barcelona

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with RedDevil...why would be leave Barca??

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually, i'm pretty sure if Pique were available, Fergie would have him.
Didn't sell him for any reason other than he wanted to go. Fergie would have kept him if he could.
Not the same as offloading someone who Fergie thinks is not good enough, in which case we would not resign someone.

ed002, sorry for these questions..

how much would these players cost roughly? (in your opinion)

james rodriguez
martinez
llorente
cissokho
clyne
kovatic
benenta
kagawa

thanks.

JK92 {Ed002's Note - I am sorry but I am not going to get wrapped up in guessing the price of players but they will range from £1M or so in compensation up to perhaps £33.27M in one case.}

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Im guessing the 1m is clyne and the 33m is martinez.
thanks anyway ed.

JK92

Agree0 Disagree0

J.Rod 23m
Martinez clause 32m or auction
Llorente 27m or auction
Cissorkick - no thanks
Clyne - train ticket & that blah blah fee.
Kovacic - last yr in contract 3m
Benitez or whatever from Montypython-pillar - nope.
Kagawa - they'll be an auction. He's an Asian player and he's bloody good. He wants England so that's half the battle. Depends if City or Chelsea offer him Eto'o style wages I guess to take the mick.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002,£33.27m for one of those players is very precise,is that a buy out clause or has a deal has been reached for a certain one of those players with a certain club?thankyou ,also for everyone else could you imagine the signing of martinez and modric in the summer, what a dream midfield that would be,joeyored

Agree0 Disagree0

I kno u didnt ask me mate.. but
rodrigez- 15m- 18m
llorente- 22m-25m
cissokho- 8m-10m
clyne- 1.5-2.5m
kovakic is free but compensation amt
benatia- 15m-18m
kagawa- 12m-15m( if no bidding war)
martinez- 30m-35m

Agree0 Disagree0

JUst googled a few of the names on your list - Martinez 32 mil, Llorente 25 mil, Rodriguez 16 mil, Kagawa 15 mil, Cissokho 8.5 mil, Clyne 1.5 mil. Taken from various sources so I can't make any guarantees on accuracy, just trying to get a rough idea.

can anyone tell me is it true that hazard is going to city?

Believable12 Unbelievable32

One of the large bookmakers have today made City 1/2 favourites to sign him, and moved United out to 6/1. Can't find anything to support why this is.
20 Rising

Agree0 Disagree0

When did we last sign a top class player when in serious competition from a top club? City will get him.
Sadly we're in serious decline. Fergie talked only two years ago of closing the gap with Barca. Bleacher Report estimates they have a £100M transfer pot this year. We could well be struggling next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds any chances of signing Modric.....he will fit well in midfield...and provide the necessary creativity

Believable11 Unbelievable16

When I watch Spurs he does use the ball well, great passing, movement. He'd score more & make more chances with better players. Hang on you can argue he's got better players around him ha ha!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats with the modric loving on this site he doesnt score doesnt tackle him or martinez
no brainer martinez every time and probable a few mil cheaper

Agree0 Disagree0

He hasnt been that impressive for spurs this year. certainly not in the £30m+ bracket for me

Agree0 Disagree0

We could do better than Modric with less money. Maybe.
Either way, not sure he's the man we need.

Bob

Agree0 Disagree0

Not for me either. Including his goal tonight against Bolton he has scored a total amount of 4 league goals this year! That is awful from one of your central attacking midfielders. I do not know why people on here keep going on and on about him. Yes his goal tonight was really good, but he is overrated and we do not need another overrated over priced Spurs player at United. So please people stop saying Modric to United, cos I won't be happy if we get him!

Red Pedro

Agree0 Disagree0

Since When has modric play attacking mid? he's deep lying playmaker doing a job similar to what scholes does for us; keeping the team ticking over and picking out killer passes.

Although saying that 4 goals is still pretty poor, still would snap your hand off for him for 25 mil.

Gpot7

Agree0 Disagree0

I really rate Modric tbh - he plays quite deep and although he doesnt get loads of goals and assists he does control Spurs' possession like Scholes at United and Xavi at Barca (not saying he's as good, but defo good enough)

To the noname who said Modric or Martinez no brainer...yes it is a no brainer - geth both! They would play in the heart of midfield in a 442 or 4411 or 4231. Martinez is a better version of Carrick (particularly defensively) and Modric would be a younger version of Scholes

So both Martinez and Modric would be ideal IMO. Somewhat cheaper options tho' might be M'Villa (but arrested!) and Eriksen

NOT THAT I WANT THIS TO HAPPEN BUT LETS PREPARE FOR THE WORST

Assuming we are on a tight budget which we probably are and this transfer window turns out to be like the last one where we dont go for players above 20 million which players would you want to sign ?

My Choices :

1. Fellaini (18-20 million) :

24 yr old, strong tackler and decent passer.
Good injury record.....Belgium havent qualified for Olympics and the Euros so he will be fresh for the next season.
Can play as striker in the last few mins if required, asset while defending and attacking set pieces.

2. Clyne (1-2 million Comp) :

21 yr old and already has 123 league appearances, decent in defence and attack, miniscule wages and competition for Rafael and Jones, no need to be named in the 25 man squad as he is homegrown.

3. Izzaguire (7-8 million) :

25 yr old experienced Left Back,
is good in attack and defence, less wages as compared to other candidates.

4. Shinji Kagawa (20 million max) :

23 yr old has already played at a top team in a very competitive league, has a very good assist/goal record.
We go on an Asia tour in pre-season, can play in Rooney's position in his abscence and can fill in the midfield. Ticks all boxes IMO.

Thats it 50 million and we get 4 very good players.
Subtract from that the money we make from sales and we could bring down our spending to around 35-40 million.

MUMBAI_BOY

Believable28 Unbelievable13

I agree that Fellaini is good and would improve the squad but would you not rather spend 12m more and get Martinez? Which I bet Fergie would want to do also.

A.R

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be happy if we signed fellani, kagawa and clyne but cissokho instead of izzaguire

Agree0 Disagree0

If that happens look forward to mid table and half empty stadium

Agree0 Disagree0

If thats who we get we will be battling for 5th forget s**tty an chelsea there squAds will be added to with world class players not just decent players we need a couple ov world class players id love to see munuain martinez and lorente i no thats a lot to spend but thats the sort of players we need to be buying to compete next season donny red

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will spend more than you think
David Gill has already stated that players will come and players will go I think we will get a left back two midfielders one attacking one defensive and definately a striker to replace Owen and Berbatov the nett spend mat be 50 million but we will sell others to finance the rest

It seems the right hand side of the United team is safe.

Rafael has came out recently saying he has a great understanding with Valencia. Up & down, crossing, covering each other when needed and what needs to improve will next season.

The left is looking dodgy. Rio switched to LCB because.......
Evra keeps losing the ball and strolling back, loses his man, gets beaten to easily. Nani doesn't cover him as much as Young defensively and there's no communication. Plus there right footed.

We tried a French LW Obertan. (didn't work)
We've tried Fabio & Nani both speak Portuguese (both right footed)

So how do we sort this out???
Do we buy Jordi Alba & Gaitan?
Or just Gaitan and he'll play with Fabio when he returns from a season long loan.

Do we buy Baines and try a youth prospect like Brady?
Brady is a left footed, strong, fast and more direct winger like Valencia with one hell of a shot & free-kick.

That is ridiculous.

This may seem a little 'out there' and personally it wouldnt be my first choice scenario either but i think fergie may go for david villa.

Before you laugh, Barcelona are trying to get rid of Villa (according to Guillem Ballague), we apparently came within a whisker of signing him before so he's obviously some one fergie likes and with him being injured and unwanted he could come "cheap".

Not particularly what i want to see but seems feasable, personally ander herrera and hazard for me but im in fantasy land.

Gpot7

Believable12 Unbelievable15

He could be decent as our 'striker with experience we need' He's only 30 so we could get a couple of good years our of him if we can get him on the cheap. Would also mean we would have a bit more to spend on the rest of the team. It does actually seem pretty feasable.

Sanshine

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I would take an in form Villa over any striker in the world.
Assuming be comes in cheap(cheap for Villa would be 15-16 million) I would personally fly him from Barcelona to Manchester.

MUMBAI_BOY

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone that says we shouldn't sign Villa clearly doesn't understand football - like Mumbai boy said - on form he is without doubt the best finisher in european football. I can't see United signing him though.....

Agree0 Disagree0

Remains to be seen if he can recover from that injury though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'd prefer Huntelaar or Raul. Mainly because I feel Villa doesn't hv the physical build suited to PL. The tackles here are much worse & considering he is already fragile, it would be a bit of a gamble. Bt never the less I wouldn't mind him. Class at the end of the day..

Fergie talks about value in the trasnfer market then maybe he may take a look at De Jong. Free transfer i summer( i think) very good player with lots of experience who loves to tackle. Also he would enable players like Anderson, Cleverley to attack more along with Carrick.

I think Martinez maybe out of our reach as i can't see us splashing £35-40 million on him when other areas of the squad need improving.

I like the look of Kagawa he scores lots of goals from midfield too and would cost £15 million ish. This would alos mean more money left over to buy another forward or winger

Cleverley was brilliant before he got injured along with Anderson but we can't really afford to put our hopes on these two players due to their injury proneness.

Injuries have taken there toll on the team this year and in mny ways weve been lucky to be where we are which shows we have a good mentality within the squad.Mad Hatter

Believable3 Unbelievable14

If you're talking about Nigel De Jong then then your name is testament to that statement. He is a dirty player who plays ugly football, injuring people in the process. I'd hate him anywhere near our squad.

I think that a lot of people want Hazard and a big name striker, but i think that it depends on who we bring in, i.e. we get a top striker or a top attacking midfielder. For me it makes more sense to get someone like van Persie than someone like Kagawa. But its hard to say. I certainly don't think that we would sign something like van Persie and Hazard or anything like that. But who knows. If we were to get two big players, then i think it would be sensible to look within the league and go for something like van Persie and Modric. Add to that Clyne, and a left back and we would be done to be honest.

Rumors going around saying we make a move for Pique. Only 25 and a great defender. I don't know why we sold him in the first place.

Brooksy

Believable3 Unbelievable12

If we buy Pique then we should certainly offload Ferdinand.
We may lose Smalling or Jones in the process.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie admitting mistakes by bringing back Pique or Rossi (if he wasn't injured) It won't happen. I know he didn't want either to leave. We should of played hard ball and either made them stay or god for bid played these talents we let go. Anderson might be sold and become a great player aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

Because he was homesick
Carl

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason we sold pique was because he wanted to go back to barcelona, if it wasnt for that then we would have kept him

As much as we wish for big players at Man Utd,but i still believe there are still certain players not big but will be cheaper and very good becoming bigger at United and maybe one/two big star players like Mesut Ozil and Higuain ....,and then players like Fellaine,Baines and Barkley of Everton.....,Nathaniel Clyne of Palace....,

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Mesut ozil, very much overated, higuain yeah, others worse than what there is now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree to a degree, although i'm hoping that we will get either Modric/Martinez. I'd like Clyne to come in, Butland, probably Izaguirre. And i'd also like van Persie to come in. He is actually the most likely striker to come in i think (in terms of 'bignames').

RedDevil19

Arsenal fan here,

As much as i can't stand Manchester United (I'm not here to pick a fight so relax), I think that regardless of wages, Wesley Sneijder is the man you need.
You guys are lacking creativity down the middle and a world class CAM is what will make you unstoppable.
Gotze and Eriksen are also good options, but i've always feared the thought of Sneijder moving to United.

Cheers,

Dont actually disagree with you nick but our problems go deeper than needing one player..As for hating us. Why? I think its more envy..Just as we envied Liverpool all those years ago...Its the sad face of football.

Agree0 Disagree0

No im positive its not envy, you're fans (most of them) annoy me.

They are usually cocky and have no idea of what they're talking about, as they are usually band-wagon supporters.

I admire the success you have but most of the Manchester Utd fans i know (and i know a lot) are just band-wagon supporters who get cocky about s**t they don't even know.

I'm sure the people on this site aren't, as they must know what they're talking about to go on a site like this, but you know what i mean.

Nick.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Nick, just a few years ago I would have said the same about Arsenal fans...Very cocky etc especially when you won the league at OT. But since youve been unsuccessful, most gooners have gone quiet. I know, my son is one!!
Then it was Chelsea, now its City..They get to the top and all of a sudden they have loads more supporters...We know who the plastics are and it isnt just United. Chelsea and City have a fair few themselves...Fortunately I dont hate any club or their supporters, though the scousers come close...I just support United, what the others do is of no consequence to me..Hence you wont see my name on any other clubs boards...Danny

Should European clubs all get together and cap players wages to a certain budget that the club can income.

Say from every 15yr old at each club in Europe from now on should be in either 1-2 or 3 category wage limit when they actuall y break into the first team.
(remember this will be from 15yrs old to say when they sign pro contracts 18yrs. Offer them a wage you think they are worth under 10k)
No.1 Young first team squad player 10k or under a week.
No.2 Regular first XI 20k a week.
No.3 10 International caps 30k a week.

Obviously you can pay a bonus of 5k MoM, 5k Win, 2k sub app, 2k Clean sheet as a team, 2k a goal as a team.
(the whole XI would break their back to not concede and to score as a team for extra money, or even be itching to get off the bench.

Plus players would earn their own endorsement money, 10% of signing on fee, and book sales and so on, tv pundit appearance ect.
Football would be so much better cause players wouldnt be millionaire premadonnas anymore. Ticket prices, football kits will come down in price due to this.

I know a footballers career is short ave age 33/37?
In the real world us fans that dream of playing retire at 65/70. Why can't they open a sports store, work as a mechanic, on the till at a superstore ect. Or even coach grass roots, scout or even manage a football team.

If I was a parent of a 15yr old at say Villa or Everton.
Or even the next Paul Scholes at 15yrs old coming through
at one of these clubs and was told I'd only ever earn between 10 to 30k a wk plus bonuses I'm sure I'd say
BRING IT ON!

Now time to stop this silly over priced player business.

1) 10m or under

2) over 10 int. Caps 20m or under

3) world class bracket 50m or under easy.
Added bonus if this would class player wins trophies or scores certain amounts of goals or assists or clean sheets depending on positions.

The footballing world would be a better place I'd say.

Believable8 Unbelievable9

The better they play the more money they'd earn. Could u imagine the despair in the the faces of the players that are 4-0 up then concede 4-1 in inj time. Each players lost a potential 2k bonus each. Come on FA, FIFA, Prat-ini make this happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

This could also lead to rift between players and tension in the dressing room.

Suppose you are 4-0 up by 90 mins and a defenders error costs them a goal, its 4-1.....the entire team turns up against that player.

'Some of them will definitely go out again next season: potentially the two Keane brothers, Tom Thorpe, Davide Petrucci, Zeki Fryers and Matty James'

Quote from SAF, I'll be watching Petrucci very closely next season!

Sanshine

Believable10 Unbelievable1

Sort Fryers contract out and send him on loan to Leics.
Keane bros could go to Palace as they'll need a RB for Clyne.
Petrucci I'd like to see in a pass and move team. Swansea would be brilliant. Gylffi will need replacing so you never know.

Agree0 Disagree0

If the Keane brothers or even one of them head to Palace then we can expect Clyne to come in which i'd love. Since Gary Neville retired we've lacked a trust worthy reliable RB and Clyne definitely would bring more stability to the back four. Which would mean who ever is playing at CB wont have to worry about covering for Rafael if he slips up or looses his man.

SAF is obviously confident of Fryers signing a new contract then if he's said he'll go out on loan? We need to start having competition for Evra, although personally i felt he did much better the other night against City. It's in the small games his motivation is questionable, especially being the captain of our team.

As for Petrucci, i too will be anticipating him making good progress next season so long as he can stay clear from injury he has real class. Probably the most influential attacker in the reserves team at the moment?

SAF and David Gill have stated many times that the Glazers are good for United. I'm afraid to say, that is complete bulls**t! They have taken well over 500m out of the club since 2005 just on debt repayments alone.

Success has led to apathy within our support. You would have to be blind not to see that United's squad has diminshed in quality.

Going out to Palace and a very poor Liverpool on their bogey ground, Anfield, in domestic cups, and going out in the weakest CL group just proves that the last 4 games are not just a blip in form.

It is unthinkable that a United side of the past 20 years would not muster one attempt on goal against Sugar Daddy City on Monday. We were so negative it was embarrasing, but that just goes to show what SAF is working with, although i think some of his player choices were highly questionable. He set-up hoping to keep a clean sheet...that is not the United of old, and not the style I want to see!

The one good thing that may result if we lose out to City is that it might wake up supporters to see what's really going on at our club. The Glazers will be exposed, and that will be amplified by losing out to Mansour's play thing just down the road.

Let me be clear. I absolutely hate a sugar daddy at OT. I just don't see the point of winning anything with this type of financial doping. It is grossly unfair on proper clubs who are trying to develop their squads through good scouting, and devlopment of youth. There is no acheivement. Chelsea and City could buy major prizes this year, and that is depressing for football, but that's only my view!

I also don't begrudge City supporters, as they have taken enough stick off of us over the years, but it appears that most supporters don't care how success comes even though IMO, it is meaningless!

All I want is that our spend reflects our vast income and we buy proven quality players, not players with "potential", or bonds or land, or any other crap which is invested purely to enhance the value of the Glazer business asset, or how I like to refer to it, my football club!

The Glazers need to start making the investment in the squad that reflects our income, or get out of town. If you love United I believe we all have a responsibity to send an unequivicol message to the owners and make it loud and clear before its too late!

They have fans so brainwashed that, reading these pages, supporters are often looking for bargains, or sell on value, or players with potential...no f*ck that!
We should be buying the best, and we shouldn't accept anything less!

Waving silly green and gold scarves has clearly been treated with contempt, and really a bit of a joke, but probably empty seats at OT will focus their minds.

Lastly, who is developing the players we have? Has Anderson really improved, and isn't Hernandez a shadow of the player he was last year?

Why is Nani still a 1 good game in 4 player? Who is coaching Rafael on how to defend and both he and Smalling to keep with their markers, basic stuff really. Who is giving Evra a kick up the arse instilling him to stop losing concentration, and why didn't De Gea come for the cross on the 6 yard line that Kompany scored from? (VDS would have claimed that cross!)

Why was Michael Owen given a new contract?

And why is Martin Ferguson so well qualified to be our chief scout?

The Honourable Englebert Von Rantmeister

Believable30 Unbelievable8

I have another question....why regurgitate stuff that we have discussed a thousand times here before just because you are annoyed we lost to City?

Agree0 Disagree0

And also the fact that we were given a football lesson by Athletico Bilbao, home and away. And leaking 4 goals against the great Everton, it goes on and on. The Glazers are draining the life and soul out of this club

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see the glazers giving SAF £50 - 100 million to buy then get someone in in the next 2 years and giving them (new manager) that sort of money again!I'm readying myself for no value in the market speech again from gill and SAF.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm fairly sure that Andersred has stated that from the latest accounts, we have approx. £60M in cash on the books at the moment....this does not include extra profits from the next set of accouts or income from player sales this summer, etc. So you can forget major spending on players. Extra funds will have to come from Glazier's own pockets if it was needed and that's very unlikely. So i'd expect a couple of minor additions and not much more.....Kagawa for £10M plus someone else in the £15-20M bracket for instance?

I give The Honourable Englebert Von Rantmeister the vote of confidence.

I totally agree Ratmeister. I made a post the day after the embarrasing defeat but eds ignored it. You have hit the nail(s) on the head(s).
The problem is, 30yrs ago, us fans watching the likes of RemiMoses, Stapleton's etc etc would have done anything for our beloved club. Nowadays I see a different type of fan at OT, similar to those coming out the wood work over at Etihad. I for one am up for the boycott of the greedy yanks who clearly dont give a s*&t about us fans, the club or the manager. However how many of the "prawn sandwich" gang will join the protest?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep definitely no value in market! Lol! Cabyye 4.5m Ben arfa 5 m shaquiri about 10m I think arteta 10m etc etc brace your self for more of the same BS from
Fergie n gill! Imo fergie needs to go n take

To start the glazers have spent on average of 50 mill a season , an u blame rich clubs spending money to win stuff well guess wa united have spent 18 mill on de gea , 16 million on jones and young , 18 million on hargreaves anderson nani and carrick , 24 million on van the man , 30 million on rio and rooney, 30 mill on veron , 30 mill on berbatov thts just a little so you say we bulid a squad wen in hindsight we purchase a squad and yeah we got a few from youth evens an clevs and the odd gibson none are good enough and the last players who came through the academy who were good enough was scholes an the gang so we like all the top clubs purchase success !

What an over reaction! We won the league last yr and we're level with City and who know's, we might still win it.
The side is developing and evolving. I for one do not want to see the back of Fergie. I trust him completely 100%.

Agree0 Disagree0

What I believe is tht its not City or Chelsea fans' fault they got cash rich owners. There is no point in cribbing abt it. It won't change things. Yes we may hv lost this year's PL bt I'm still very happy the way we are still second with an injury ridden squad. Utd was never a club tht spend huge amounts of money on buying players. So I dnt think this window would be any different. Apart from tht I agree that our youth hasn't come up the way we wanted it to. Bt I think all we can do is jst hope tht next season they'll mature very well. Blaming City & Chelsea fr money is jst stupid. I would like to hv a squad tht plays with the Utd spirit rather than the one tht plays for money..

What a great post from The Honourable Englebert Von Rantmeister.

I can't believe everyone's so content with the low standard of the current Utd team/squad.

The standard we should be aiming for is a team that is capable of beating the current football benchmark that is Barcelona.

IMO for any new player that Utd think of signing, the simple question should be asked whether he's good enough to get into the Barcelona team. If the answer is no then he shouldn't even be considered. What's the point in signing more substandard players to add to the ones we already have?

Looking at what we have already, I think two of our players might pass the test and that's Rooney and Vidic.

Just think back to the squad of '99 and how good it was to watch the amazing football they played. Now compare that to the dross we've been served up all this season.

I for one would like a team that's exciting as '99 and could beat Barcelona. Until that's in place I won't be satisfied and why should I be? Utd is the biggest club in the world and it's time we started showing it on the football pitch again.

if the 100m roumor was on the cards... would love to see ronaldo back! would over shadow anything city have ever done + i would buy also go for fellaine (spelling) of everton to bolster our midfield? all comments wolcome

Believable10 Unbelievable8

It would be mad to go for Ronnie, unless we had another 100 million to spend on players who could actually get the ball up to him

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellani for 25 million world be a great buy.
He can play anywhere in the midfield, plus we know he can handle the EPL
Mik

The only way we would be able to spend anywhere near £100 million would be if the 30% flotation was to go through in the near future.

What are we making of the 'massive spending' rumours this morning. I don't buy it, £100 million is far too much. We are being linked with a RB, LB, CB, CM, LW and Striker. So basically every part of the pitch. Pique would be a good signing though, not that it will happen. I also fear that we will miss out on Hazard which will be a travesty.

I doubt it's true but pique, modric, martinez and llorente(?) would be amazing!
add to that cissokho and clyne and we'll be a real force!

Can't see that happening, sao paoulo are asking for to much, plus real madrid would be a more likely destination if he goes anywhere with higiuan looking like moving on.

If we loose out on Hazard to City then we better make a real effort for this guy, otherwise next season is as good as gone! :/ Unless we buy some other special players in, getting nervous now!

Do any of the Eds (Ed002 especially) know whether anyone is interested in Joe Allen of Swansea? Promoting Pogba and buying him would be a great step forward. People don't like the idea because he's not a huge name but watch a few Swansea games (a bit late but,we're playing them next). He's the most Scholes like player I've seen in the premier league this year. He's small, a great passer, great vision, holds possession and is a feisty little b**tard. If the opposition midfield is getting rough he has no problem doing the dirty work and getting stuck in.

Pogba, well we all know he's quality at this stage, it's just a matter of whether he stays. He could be a sensational box to box player, vision and passing of an CAM, strength of a CB and engine an engine that's a little less than Keane's. He reminds me of Bastian Schweinsteiger in many ways.

If we play Cleverley or Rooney ahead of them, then we would be brilliant. I think this would rival most teams in the league midfield wise, if cleverley can stay fit, if not we have Petrucci, who's also quality. This can be achieved with an outlay of between 5 and 10 million. Obviously we'd need a left back as well and maybe a striker, but we'd have plenty of money leftover.

Percy {Ed002's Note - I would expect Allen to remain at Swansea for next season.}

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Allen & Brittain have been good for the swans. Buy him cheap then loan him to Swansea again. Scholes, Giggs, Park maybe Fletcher might not be here may 2014.
Let the lad have 38 more games in the Prem and see if he's good enough for a squad next, next season ;-). He's 22 now.
So when he's here he'll be nearly 24 a full Welsh int. Could be a player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pogba may have potential, but when asked to prove himself against the mighty Crystal Palace he came up very short

Agree0 Disagree0

Pogba looks good in the reserves, playing against kids. He MAY develop into a great player, he may vanish into lower division anonymity. Cleverly, when he can stay fit, isn't all that either. The truth is we need a couple of midfielders badly, we will need to buy them both for 30 - 40 million. Marvin Martin - M'villa, that would probably cost 45 million at least, but is a maybe.Martinez and Hazard at 70-80 million no chance.
Joe Allen looks good for Swansea, but we need someone above squad player level, we need first teamers and he just isn't that.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

No name

I assume you didn't see any of his more recent cameos? He was very impressive, that goes to you too Mik.

Mik

Allen is better than any midfielder in our first team and he's only 22. My bet's that he's as good as Marvin Martin with a better work ethic. I hope to see him here next season, if we do, then our midfield would be much improved.

It is just not good enough if all our top targets are going to other clubs surely that means we are always going to be left with 2nd or 3rd best. As a utd fan that is just not good enough how are we ever going to close the gap between us an the top teams when players WE need (hazaard, martinez) end up smwer else?

Not surprised about Hazard being a money grabber. Isn't his 18yr old bro called Thor? Let's get him instead. A new GOD to replace Cantona.

The big problem is of course money. City have loads of it and so do the Glazers........... but they're not for spending
