Why is it Sir Alex has never really bought into the German market... Over the years German football has been blessed with so many talented players. We have always been linked with a number of Germans but then it never seems to materialize into an official transfer.

If you just look at the national team now Gotze,Hummels,Gomez,Reus,Podolski,Schemlzer,Neuer,Badstuber,Khedira,Ozil... The list just goes on and on and I think it would be crazy not to sign some of them, traditionally we have never gone for Germans (Think the last was Ron Robert-Zieler)

What do you guys think?

We went for Ballack but he chose Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree1

I just think that German players are really hard to tempt out of their country or to England..... But I do think that they would be comfortable moving to the Premiership due to Bundesliga being more like it than any other league.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think it is just down to circumstance. We were due to sign Markus Babbel after Euro 96 but SAF decided to stick faith in Gary Neville. The German side at that time was beginning to age, hence their dip in international form between 1998 and 2004. I know they reached the final in 2002 but you wouldn't have said they had many players who would've suited the Premier League or were "top" players, Ballack and maybe Metzelder (who chose to go to Madrid) aside. It wasn't really until 2006 qualification that they started introducing the players that now make up the German team and I think we have shown interest in a few German's since then but they have either chosen to go elsewhere or they have yet to make the move outside of Germany.

I'd love to see Schmelzer and Gotze arrive at United along with Khedira. I am not a huge fan of Hummels, he can be good, but he can also be horrendous. Players manage to make runs off him and in behind quite often, he'd need to cut that out before I wanted to see him in a United shirt for the fee he would command! I'd love to see Subotic come from Dortmund

Agree0 Disagree1

I think sir alex is trying to do what barcelona is doing, which they have most of their players from spain( Xavi, Pique, Valdes etc.) and some of them from other countries(messi, sanchez etc) now most of the players in manu are english (rooney, welbeck, cleverley, jones etc.) and some from other countries(nani, valencia etc.)

Agree0 Disagree5

SAF has been a very big admirer of Phillip Lahm and Schweinsteger.

I think he has tried or enquired about both players in the past but they both opted to stay at F.C Bayern.

All great potential players, id like to see mario gotze in for nani or james rodrigues of porto nani hast bin consistant for a few yrs now time to split ways and sell him to milan for 20mil or so!

Jimmy and Brian GreenHOFF
Sorry!

Sadly sunny Manchester just is not a big enough pull when Spain and Italy are calling.

Agree1 Disagree0

We have been linked with a few players over the past few years and even put bids in, but some of the players have stayed with their clubs or have opted to go elsewhere.

Are we still looking at Benatia? A good centre back option I feel. However, do you think its more likely for us to go for someone established like Benatia / Hummels ... Or do we go for someone like Okore or Zouma who has promise and is more for the future? If we bought a young centre back then I feel Ferdinand stays, but if we sign someone like Benatia or Hummels then surely Ferdinand goes?

Fresh!

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Hummels and Benatia could be ever presents in our back four for the next 10 years, not just good for the present but will be just as good in the future... Hummels would be my choice but I just could never see it happening

I believe Ogbonna may come in, he looks good, quick and stands at 6'2 if my memory serves me right, he's 24 and IMO could solve our defensive problems, he also left footed so I guess could cover LB! Also can anyone tell me what Felipe Santana is like, could he be a cheap option until the summer?
U.T.I.D

Agree0 Disagree0

Benatia doesnt offer anything different to evans and smalling ( keane ? ) whho play like ferdinand. We are more in need of a physical beast, a vidic if you like, Hummels and papadopoulos come to mind.

Benatia is 25. Hummels and papadopoulos, 22 and 20 respectivly, are much better and younger. Benatia is not better than Evans.

Mick

Agree1 Disagree0

Papadopolous look very good, Schalke may sell, but he won't come cheap as he in young and he is a starter in the Schalke setup and his also young defensive partner Matip, what he like?
U.T.I.D

Agree0 Disagree0

In an ideal world we would get Hummels one of the top defenders in the world at just 23 and he also speaks fluent English already so moving here would prove less of a challenge, but he would cost well over 20m possibly 30 because he signed a new contract in the summer.

SAF has traiditionally not played attacking mifielders. This has ruined the potential of anderson who was made to play deeper and change his game. Now the same is happening with kagawa an powell. hope they dont end up wasting a big chunk of their talent.

btw, heard ravel morrison s getting his act together and also putting in serious performances. is it true guys?

Well Birmingham wanted to terminate his loan because of his attitude about 2 weeks ago, but since then he has been putting his head down, and performing very well. Lee clark even said he has gazza-like potential. If he can keep improving i would gladly have him back. He can be immense in the future.

Don't worry once SAF retires a new manager will hopefully change the system.

When Anderson really played as a 10 for us he didn´t impress at all. Like many of our central midfielders he is more suited to a 4-3-3 but with Rooney and Van Persie we won´t play it.

Someone like Guardiola would probably change that but he could also see that after 60 minutes Anderson is "dead" and can´t run anymore.

And why does everyone think that Powell is an attacking midfielder? He played for Crewe as a striker, yes, but the only reason for that was that they didn´t have anyone who was good enough to play there. Crewe´s coach, SAF and the coaches of the english youth teams see his future as a central midfielder.... are they all wrong? He won´t be a defensive midfielder but he´ll be a midfielder like Lampard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson did not last because he did not play enough games. Stop slugging the guy off. He was absolutely brilliant against Chealse and if he gets run of games he won't have a problem to last whole game. Nobody won't last whole match when they don't play regularly. U could even see Fergie to giving him tap on shoulder, which he only does when he is impressed. Guy had 3 assists in the game agains Chealse in 67 minutes plus running his socks off. He was brilliant. I wish people recognise his his effor and apprise him for that. If he gets 2-3 games run and plays like that we will have a super star in midfield that everybody craves for.
Tin

Agree2 Disagree0

Agree with Tin. Anderson was fantastic his first couple of seasons at the club showign show much potential AS A DEEP LYING midfielder.
I am tired of reading how he has been ruined. He hasnt been effective the last 2 or 3 years because he has predominantly been injured and not got a run of games. And the guy saying he was tired after 60mins, well yes as he had been all over the pitch and was his first game in a while, what do you expect? Give the guy a break, he is a phenomenal talent that has stalled the last couple of years with injuries but he is potentially a better midfielder than virtually all the players I have seen with us linked with in midfield the last couple of summers and if he stays injury free and gets a run of games I have no doubts he will prove this, he has looked good every time he has been on the pitch this season, welcome back anderson!
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with ya invisible stu ando is a player that has had to many injurys to really get a foothold in the team and we forget he is still only 24 not to old to start perfoming to his highest standards which we see at chelsea were he was fantastic when he gets fitter and stronger he will play at that tempo for the full game he could be a powerhouse when fully fit i hope he reaches his potential cause we will have some player then

Agree0 Disagree0

Apart from his many injuries, he does have stamina issues, he always has had since joining us. He need to have a more balanced diet, as he always looks like a bit of a porker. This said I think he looks good this season, even if this is only for 60 -70 mins per game. He has a lot more ability than Cleverly! he just needs better luck with injuries and keep a stricter fitness regimen.

City to out bid us for Wanyama ps hope not

Believable2 Unbelievable21

You can see their thinking because they are short on dms !

Agree1 Disagree0

Would we not be better going for someone like Strootman. I would hate to have players leaving us for a month or so every couple of years to play in African Cup of Nations. At least a european player would only play in the euros during the normal close season

Agree0 Disagree0

Just paper bs,what are they going to do with him, they are loaded with midfielders. paid 16 for garcia in th summer and the guy can hardly get a game.

Sharam

Agree1 Disagree0

Wanyama is a great player, better than strootman!

Agree0 Disagree0

They will always outbid us. Player would have to want to go there though, a la RVP ;)

Dan

Agree1 Disagree0

Garcia, Rodwell, Barry, all trying to get games in the second central position ( toure is kind of a given ). Dont think they'd want wanyma, nor would he want to com eif he cares about playing time, which he should.

If they are to go for someone they would go for an established star: De Rossi, Vidal, Bender, schweinsteiger ( ? ). Harder to get but with the sort of cash city has....

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

Wanyama is better than any midfielder that City have in that area but think he would rather go to a club with tradition and history like Utd. He would MAKE your team.....martyc1888

Agree1 Disagree0

Wanyama is a massive United fan, so coming to OT would be his dream move. He's a totally different kind of midfielder to Strootman, who is a box to box midfielder with the onus on attack. I wouldn't put Wanyama at the YaYa level YET! However, he is a very good player, who is improving all the time. As he's only 21 he has time on his side and has every chance of becoming world class over the next 2 - 3 years
