A newspaper saying that Strootman is the January target and Hummels is still the main defensive target. We need to keep our eyes and ears open to who we are looking at for RB. Is it still Cuadrado or will we look for a more defensive RB?

Right now all news regarding next transfer window targets not important. The importance is we need some result from the investment.

Agree3 Disagree0

Hi Syd, Strootman would be a good purchase, given the respective ages of Carrick and Fletcher.

Agree0 Disagree0

Strootman, I believe, was always LVG's preferred choice even over Vidal. Think he will join in January but agree with Syd, definitely need a new RB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Strootman a certain target. Whether Rome want to sell is another matter. Some media saying Johnny Evans to be sold to help fund January buys.

Agree1 Disagree0

Roma will always sell at a price. They were pretty reasonable with Benatia, so I think Strootman could be signed for less than £30m. He's not my first choice, but he is a player LvG likes.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Evans was sold and Hummels signed. Evans is a mistake waiting to happen.

Agree2 Disagree2

Bit harsh on Evans he was our best cb 2 seasons ago but if it meant hummels then who can complain. Dani alves will be available next summer but he's poor defensively. 2 names I'd like to put out there for rb are danilo from Porto and di sciglio from Milan who I think will be world class.

Agree0 Disagree1

Strootman was always going to be the preferred holding midfielder that LVG was going to go for

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Syd, Evans is shocking, I would even put Smalling in the same bracket. Definitely need a world class CB and RB

I am reading on net that villa have signed tc for 12 months with an option to buy. I understand this is his last yr of contract with us. So how can we sell an option to buy next year.

Believable2 Unbelievable8

There's a clause in the contract whereby we can cancel the loan at any point. Their option to buy also relates to January rather than once the loan ends.

I suspect that there is a deal agreed by which they will buy in January - and if they don't I expect we will recall him and move him on elsewhere.

That said; I wouldn't be at all surprised if the player refuses to sign and waits out his contract in order to leave on a free (why wouldn't he?).

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe there's an extra year option that can be triggered, same as it was with Evra.

I've heard it's with a view to buying in January

Agree0 Disagree0

Heard it's a 6 month loan

Agree0 Disagree0

From reports I heard it was loan til January with option to buy

Ed002 if you around I have a question please, Does the option to buy clause with Falcao mean we get first dibbs on signing him at the end of the season? or can other clubs get involved and outbid us? Nice one

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what "dibbs" are - if it is gangster rap for "the opportunity" then yes. It is a case of he will be loaned for a year and then there is an option for MUFC to exercise to buy him for certain terms. If MUFC decide not to buy him, then that will also be covered in the contract and Monaco can seek to sell him elsewhere. Again if the player decides against the move then he will return to Monaco to almost certainly sold on - or perhaps loaned again.}

Hi all

Anyone have any info on what the latest is with Rojo?

Thanks

Believable2 Unbelievable1

He has to wait for pending criminal charges after an altercation with his neighbour. something that was not made aware to united when we signed him

Agree0 Disagree0

Because he has not received the work permit before the close of the window will he be able to play for us this season?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If the club register him as aplayer and a WP subsequently arrives then yes. If not, then no. Falcao won't have one yet but he won't have any problems getting one.}

Quick question for Ed002

Ive seen reports saying falcao is actually with us permanently but for ffp we are classing the first year as a loan?is there any truth in this?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - No but there is an option to buy after a year.}

Has a price been agreed at which we can purchase him at?

Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes Calvin but it is of little consequence as it would likely be up for negotiation next year if Manchester United were to buy him.}

Hope we don't buy him after the loan. He'll be 29 once the loan is over and that is the same age RVP was when we bought him. We need somebody who's like 24-26.

Agree0 Disagree5

9matt2

the difference is falcao is prob the best goal scorer in the world

Agree5 Disagree1

I think everything is agreed for us to sign him permanently at the end of the season if he has a good season. His agent has reportedly said it is a permanent move and when they asked Falcao if he had a message for the fans he said 'I hope I can give them a lot of happiness, goals and titles'. To me that sounds like he intends to stay for more than this season considering he said titles, it can also be put down to him not speaking very good english lol, I guess we'll find out come the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems obvious the fee's quoted in the press are suspect, but Monaco could have obviously got around £40m for Falcao at 28 in the current transfer environment. (Provided injuries have not put teams off.)

How the loan deal makes any sense for Monaco I don't know. From their perspective, it would have made sense to create an obligation to purchase next year, like Valencia's Negrado deal. Falcao's transfer value will surely depreciate by 30-50% come next year.

Sneijder was a similar story. At 27 he was worth £40m, age 28 - £26m. By the time he joined Galatasaray at 29 he was worth as little as £12 odd million. Its debatable whether Sneijder was worth £40m to begin with, but there's no doubt a players value depreciates quickly once they pass 27 years old.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think there is a big difference between a playmaker like Sneijder and a striker like Falcao when it comes to age.

Such as Gerrard, Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta are still going strong into there 30's.

Whereas players like RVP, Berbatov and struggling with injuries, losing pace and that crucial finish.

Agree0 Disagree1

Dont even mention berbatov in the same sentence as van percie.

Didn't think we'd be seeing any rumours so soon after the window shut - but slyspurts are reporting that a deal for Cleverley to go on loan to Aston Villa was agreed late last night and that the club are confident it went through in time.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Hi Eds, its not easy to understand the terms of the Falcao loan deal. The option to buy for £50m next year dosent make any financial sense for a 29 year old. Surely EdWW will turn round and spend £50m elsewhere? I hope that's not the case, because i'd rather support the player properly in the next 4-5 years.

Have Monaco gone to any lengths to protect themselves from Falcao's depreciation over the next year? The £6m loan fee and £25million -( rvp's price at 29) next year is £30m.
£10m less than the ~£40m they can still demand at 28 years of age.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to the finances and someone has been misleading you with these numbers.}

Lets hope so.Useless never utd quality

Agree0 Disagree3

FA have approved it. Option for Villa to buy for £7.5m in January.

Eds or anyone else, wonder if you can clear a couple of things up? Sorry if any of them have already been answered.

A few days ago there were reports that Timothy Fosu Mensah was having his medical. I thought that was as good as a done deal but not heard anything else about it. Is this still on or not?

Also, is there still any chance of us signing Martin Odegaard today? Some were talking as if this was also a done deal, although as far as i'm aware it had all been rumours so far?

Many thanks and cheers for all the info so far today.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - (a) No. (b) No.}

Hi Ed's, in particular Ed0002, thank for your input, insights and as usual cutting comments, until the next window.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

Looks like Mensah deal did go ahead in the end. this from manutd.com;

"Manchester United agreed a deal to sign Timothy Fosu-Mensah from Ajax ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 16-year-old is a powerful defender who caught the eye at the AEGON Future Cup and is highly regarded in his homeland.

Fosu-Mensah still requires an International Transfer Certificate to be processed in order to make his debut for Paul McGuinness' Academy squad, but his versatility and ability mark him out as an excellent addition for the Reds."

Ed002

With all of this money being spent is it still likely that Utd will bring in another midfield option?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Not now.}

Hi Ed002, have we dropped interests in Vidal?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Vidal won't be moving. It is not dropping interest.}

So Danny Welbeck has left MUFC for Arsenal. What a sad sight seeing one of own home-grown players who had so much potential but never fulfilled it to our requirements.

I wish Danny the best of luck in London and hope he does well in the rest of his career. And I will never forget that Madrid goal he scored!

We have an alright replacement for him though in someone named Falcao? Never heard of him but all I know is he was in the world 11 or something last season? Seems like an alright prospect for us.

Believable26 Unbelievable4

I'm also sad he has gone but it's good to see new faces come in. Hopefully we will start winning some games after all of the money that has been spent.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need time to click, our starting 11 will be tricky. SAF had nothing but time and worked his system the way he wanted, anyone who was coming in to do anything either than what SAF did was going to have a roughy time. What LVG has done is great but he still needs time, new system, new personal, new style. He needs at least this season to get going and then we can be back on top 2015-2016

Agree1 Disagree0

Wellbeck's move is getting a lot of press/Twitter coverage because it was a surprise signing by Arsenal. His time at OT was up when Van Gaal came because the system demand clinical finishers. We need CL football. Would you rely on Danny to get you CL football? As much as I like him, I wouldn't.

Agree1 Disagree0

Always nice to see someone come through the ranks at united, but unfortunately his time was up a couple of seasons ago. never really made the grade, not really sure what his best position is.
£16m is great business for us. arsenal taking a back-up player from us, can't see that really haunting us what so ever

Agree0 Disagree0

Really shortsighted.

We now have 3 world-class strikers, 2 with knee problems and all at the age where they aren't really going to improve, with only a year or two before they start to decline.

Meanwhile we have sold the promising young striker who's going to be growing into his best just in time for the decline of the older 3.

Welbeck just needs some time up front instead of being stuck out on the wing. This is going to be just like Sturridge, and we'll be regretting this before long.
