Hi ed02,please tell me igalo transfer is not going to happen. can't believe we have become a joke.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Any option to buy would make it laughable.}

31 Jan 2020 21:52:51
Why?

A natural goal scorer for 6 months at minimal costs whilst we only have two centre forwards on the books, one of whom is 18 years old.

Why on earth are you complaining?

Agree18 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 21:57:26
If it goes through it'll be for 6 months. Think of it as a free hit. What would be laughable is to not have any backup to Martial and Greenwood for the next 4 months.

If the terms work for us then I'd prefer to have an extra striker than not to have enough. He is a short term option with hopefully relatively little outlay.
I have a feeling he may surprise a couple of people particularly if Bruno is going to be feeding him, big strong boy, game changer in last 20 mins maybe, 16 goals in 35 Nigeria apps. Jesper blomqvist.

If it's just a loan ed?

31 Jan 2020 22:37:35
6 month loan with an option to buy Angel
It looks like a case of just get an experienced man in for cover if he comes in and scores a few goals or leads the line well then great as someone said above its a free hit.
I don't think martial is a cf so he could well get some game time it will be interesting to see how hee does.
His record in the epl is a goal every 3 games about the same as martial.

31 Jan 2020 23:23:26
Idhalos not the name we all wanted but to me it's a win win we got him on loan for 6 month he's a man utd fan so to me if he thinks he's got a chance of getting a contract he's gonae give his all ig anything hfully it will martial a kick up the arse that he needs.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 23:32:05
At least we have accepted we needed additional support up front, he apparently is in good form for country. Don't think option to buy but who knows if he does well.
As a back up for Martial with Greenwood he could be a good addition.
Low risk, just start summer planning now with the Euros I think we need to do our work early.

Read an article which sums this up perfectly. In a scenario where Haaland for £20m was perfect, and signing Joshua King for twice that, Ighalo on loan is an incredibly sensible middle ground.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Feb 2020 01:46:29
Ed002 said numerous times Utd were not going to pay £20m for Haaland. It was going to be more than those figures.

And the kid made the right decisions for his development.

Agree3 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 05:59:48
Ighalo is the kind of signing which might make or break Ole's managerial career with us. If he is banging in the goals, Ole is justified and might get another year. If he turns into another Bebe then Ole will be gone in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 09:24:29
Hes gone anyway after letting Lukaku go and not buying then . Messed the whole season up 😂😂.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 12:48:41
I'm not sure it was Ole who didn't want a striker in the summer BFRO.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 22:24:53
He's the same manager now making panic signings. He messed up big time . The guy has no idea . Do you think Jose would of made the same mistake. no he wouldnt. 😱😱.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2020 09:53:52
Easy to say that BFRO, but this isn't a computer game, the manager only has a little involvement in transfers. He may suggest names and say yes or no to others, but he doesn't actually handle the transfer.

Our failure to bring in replacements for players leaving is on Ed Woodward, not Ole.

Oh and fwiw, failing to replace Herrera was a much bigger mistake than Lukaku.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2020 18:43:42
Funny hey. Almost everyone were happy to see Lukaku go just to justify Ighalo coming. Well karma, karma.

Looks like Josh King will arrive before the deadline.

A second bid has gone in and looks likely to be accepted.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2020 11:30:56
who said that?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 11:52:10
I just don't know if it's a permanent or loan deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 12:08:09
Would be quite ironic if we did sign him. We are short up front with Rashford being out, so go and sign Josh King - who is I believe currently out injured?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 12:21:26
I going to throw it out. Greenwood goes to Bournemouth on loan in exchange for us signing King.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 12:37:43
Doesn't that defy the point of signing him? We are in the market for a striker as Ole wants a different option up top but also because we are short on numbers.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 12:55:55
So in a month we've gone from talking about signing Haaland to talking about signing Josh King, a player who's managed three goals this season .

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 13:14:40
I can’t understand this one. Why Josh King? He’s hardly prolific.
I heard something earlier that Ole told him after a recent Bournemouth game that he’d bring him back to United.
If that’s true then it’s ridiculous, he’s scored 3 goals this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed047's Note - sounds like just what you need and he’s out with a hamstring injury until 22.02.20. What could go wrong 🤷‍♂️😉

31 Jan 2020 13:32:26
I’d take a punt on Dries Mertens. Quality player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not going to happen.}

31 Jan 2020 13:51:43
Is he going elsewhere Ed002 or staying at Napoli?

we would be better of putting a advert on ebay striker wanted.

31 Jan 2020 15:30:55
I am available. Am a mature 50yrbold so no late night social media stuff to worry about. Would not demand huge wages and I can run around for at least 20mins which is as much as some of our overpaid prima Donna's seem to manage. Plus I can misplace a pass with the best of them.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 15:32:41
Won’t happen. No need for King long term so makes little sense.

I'm going with Salford 7 out of nostalgia, having been born there many many years ago!

Willian Jose? Never heard of him, is he someone we've looked at / been offered ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Newcastle, Fulham, Spurs and Everton have shown an interest. Perhaps a little better than MU deserve.}

31 Jan 2020 11:02:26
Appears as if josh King is on. If I were bournemouth I would be majorly annoyed with the timing and also why is this left until deadline day by us.
I now understand what Ed002 means by amateur. (board and transfer process)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2020 11:12:19
bournemouth won't sell without getting someone in. ain't happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 12:57:41
I was listening to Neil Warnock on Talksport this morning and he said you want to get your signings in early, but it always seems to take till the end of the window to sort out, with clubs thinking they can get a better deal, players not being available and players suddenly becoming available. It's not just us that act this way.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 12:06:57
Bournemouth would do exactly the same if they had to.

Reports saying our bid for Josh King has been turned down by Bournemouth.

The very Josh King that used to play for us?

31 Jan 2020 08:37:07
i don't rate him what so ever. would he offer more than martial?

somtimes martial can be fantastic but he always drifts in and out of games for me.

im unsure on king don't think he would improve us.

31 Jan 2020 08:49:06
Agree don't want him I like the look of william jose looks half decent big and strong and knows where the net is.

31 Jan 2020 09:26:37
Martial has been given the No.9 shirt and a massive new deal.

When fit he will be the first choice central striker.

We aren't looking for a world class first choice striker to come in.

We need a rotation option who offers something different, ideally a back to goal striker who can bring others into the game.

Giroud would be the ideal signing, I just can't see Chelsea selling to a rival and if they would I see Spurs ahead of us in the queue due to Giroud preferring to stay in London.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 09:57:59
I think Chelsea will rather sell to us than Tottenham. plus Giroud knows he has a better chance of getting playing time with us over the next 12 months. Given his age he will also want a final pay day which we can offer better than Tottenham.
THe only issue is we are not interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 10:02:25
Some of you may have seen The Masked signer on TV (yeah, quality I know! ), and would have seen Teddy Sheringham as the 'tree'.

If we wanted to sign a tree, maybe we could sign him again. Be a cheaper option than Giroud.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 10:10:13
Shappy,

Martial lacks consistency. Also you said when he is fit. He is quite injury prone. He needs to be more aggressive. At times he is like a other Pogba, hands on his hips.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 10:53:25
I don’t rate Martial at all.

If we had sold him and held onto Rom, we’d be in a much better position this year. Martial is just a confused player, doesn’t have the instincts to make it as a striker and hasn’t worked hard enough to improve his wing play.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2020 11:14:26
I think Martial is a better player than many give him credit for. That said, he doesn't look like he will become the world class striker he looked like he would grow in to during his first season at the club.

He is a good at linking up play and is the most clinical striker at the club (Greenwood not withstanding as he is in his debut season and isn't ready to be first choice starting striker every week) . He doesn't make enough selfless runs or gambling runs.

In the right set up and tactics he can be a very good striker. Considering this season we have struggled to create good goalscoring chances, and Martial has spent time out injured (which often means a player needs a game or two to play themselves back into form) . Martial has 8 goals in 1458 minutes which is a goal every 182 minutes or a goal every other game. Which is a solid scoring rate. If he hand't been injured and we had been creating more and better goalscoring chances he could be close to being one of the top scorers in the league.

The real issue with Martial is his injury record. He just can't stay fit for a whole season. That's why we need another central striker, with Rashford struggling centrally and Greenwood being a year or two away from being ready to step into that role.

My favourite person for that role would be Raul Jimenez, but he certainly won't be available mid-season. So someone like Giroud for 18 months would be a great option to allow Greenwood time to grow into the role.
