Just read a possible explanation as to why Ferguson was so annoyed at the Daily Mail quotes regarding a contract. Potentially, this could be tapping up, and United like to conduct their business as cleanly as possible and so wouldn't want to be accused of anything underhand. Just a suggestion.

Believable18 Unbelievable5

I read something on the Guardian website, with Gasperini saying he appreciates there has been an offer for Sneijder, but negotiations should be with Inter.

He's seemingly suggesting that a club, not necessarily United, are talking to Sneijder before talking with his club, as you say something United would want kept quiet, and you'd assume so would Sniejder, which may be the reason behind a hasty exit when faced with united related questions.

It has to be said though that just because we're connecting dots doesn't mean that there are any grounds on which to assume we're right.

M

Agree0 Disagree0

It could just mean SAF just doesn't think WS is worth the huge outlay (70 million in wages and fee over 4 years).

Has anyone else seen the Sneijder interview? He answered every question about his future until we were brought up then he walked off Any ideas on what that is all about? Eds? Sydney? Personally I think he is coming but is scared to say anything that would prove it or upset Inter or United

MUFC 19 {Ed007's Note - I have already said what I know about it, the situation has not changed as far as I am aware, and Ed002 is under strict instructions to keep me updated on anything she can find out as well.}

Just seemed a little strange. forgot to mention that He also had a big cheesy grin on his face when he walked away

Can you please tell me where i can watch the interview

Agree0 Disagree0

Just watched the Sneijder interview. He did well to stray away from saying whether he wanted to play in England, but as soon as United came up he got that silly grin on his face. I can't see him going anywhere but United, he is pure class. Let's put this saga to bed and join. United till I Die.

Agree0 Disagree0

His grin tells a million tales. Sadly, he did actually answer 'I'm not'. Could this grin be just as big an indication that he is heading to s**tty?

I doubt it, but as he said himself, anything can happen.

Gasperini admits there has been an offer for Sneijder but does not specify the club:

guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/31/manchester-united-internazionale-wesley-sneijder?CMP=twt_gu

The quote is in the second paragraph and is very small:

'Gian Piero Gasperini, the Inter manager, acknowledged that "there has been an offer [to Sneijder]".'

Believable6 Unbelievable2

There has got to be something to all these rumours. They can not all just be made up nonsense, can they?

MUFC 19

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, which is why I am optimistic of us getting him. An importnat thing to note is that Gasperini also stated categorically that Sneijder WILL play against Milan next week. I know a few days ago there were rumours of some sort of agreement that said Sneijder would have to play against Milan even if a deal was to be reached, perhaps there was something to them.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would rather WS went to sh--y or Chelski and we got someone younger

On a sky sports vidoe showing his post match interview, Sneijder was asked:

"Are you flattered to be linked with Man United?"

To which he replied:

"I'm not.", with a big smile on his face whilst hastily leaving the interview area.

Here's the link, very interesting:

skysports.com/video/inline/0, 26691, 12606_7074971, 00.html

Believable10 Unbelievable6

You'll have to take the spaces out of the link for it to work though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just posted the same thing and thought it was strange too. It was the only question what he didn't answer properly

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's certianly a positive thing as it would've been much easier to rule us out, but he smiled and was cagey so that's far more telling for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I also found it funny how his assistant just smiled when the question was asked, whch to me says that before the interview he discussed with her which questions he would avoid, and so any questions with Man United in them would not be answered, which is why he and his assistant smiled.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the other comments, it was a strange attitude, with all the other people laughing in the background too? maybe a deal is already in place but they're not allowed to say? and fergie is waiting to surprise us.. perhaps

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he's agreed terms with another prem team thats why everybody was laughing, it seemed as though he was takeing the piss out of us.

Agree0 Disagree0

No I don't think it was taking the pi55, I think he perhaps felt comfortable making jokes or whatever because he feels a deal is in place or imminent.

Agree0 Disagree0

The thought occurred to me that if he had agreed a deal to s**tty, he would mst likely answer 'I'm not' whilst having a huge grin on his face.

Will not be impressed if this long lasting saga results in him going to the enemy

MDJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I beliee you Utd fans are reading a little too much into a player who is clearly NOT FLATTERED to be linked; surely his answer of IM NOT tells everything??

Perhaps the Tevez for Sniejder rumours are true and he was taking the piss out of you sum fans?

Surely rather than reading between the lines you should listen to the question and answer??

Any chance of Wellbeck lads, Sunderland fan. Doesn't look like you lot need him?

Believable0 Unbelievable25

Fergie said both Welbeck and Cleverly are going nowhere this season. So no?

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure about wellbeck I just don't think he is utd class and I don't think he has a football brain. Any time I have watched him he runs around like a headless chicken but I hope I am proved wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welbeck played fairly well against Barcelona. Granted, it was a friendly. But Ashley Young has looked as if he's playing with a third team(neither of the ones that are actually on the pitch) when he's been out there this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

He played amazing on tour specially against Barca. And Fergie said him and Cleverly are staying, so 100% no. O and hurry up and take Gibson off us

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that this is a critical stage for Welbeck.
He's looking bright so I think he will stay but it might be better for him to get a skip-load of games under his belt.

If I was Sir Fergus, I'd loan him to ya. You do desperately need a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wellbeck is at that stage where he has to make an impact. Would be nice if he and Cleverley made it.I'm undecided about them both really. As for Young I feel with Nani and Valencia be so good he is a waste of money.

In every club there is a Transfer 'Saga' going on getiing boring to be honest if Sneijder continues to whinge about money we should move on, A player who really has not had a menton is Moutinho from Porto he would be a perfect fit for the club has been around for a while now and still is only 24 i'd love him at united

Yeah, get him signed - the guy from porto that is

I have received good and bad news. The bad news is that Chelsea are now in for Sneijder after being rebuffed in their attempts to sign Modric and Pastore. The good news is that Fergie will make a 20 million take it or leave it bid for Nasri. If rejected he will wait until Jan or next summer.

think there will now be a lot of activity this coming week with us city and chelsea all making our moves for the final players. Must admit despite what Wenger says thought Nasri to City would have been done by now so maybe there's a chance we may swoop for him this week. I could really seem him with us.

Man United arrived back in Manchester around 5 hours ago and the latest rumour going round is that United will prepare a £20 million bid for Joao Moutinho should they fail to get their top target... Wesley Sneijder.

Take it as you like, don't shoot the messenger

Believable5 Unbelievable24

You always say don't shoot the messenger

i wish they would coz everything you ever say NEVER comes to fruition

Agree0 Disagree0

Would like to see it happen instead of sneijder anyway. very gd at sporting lisbon and excellent at porto. would be gd partner in the middle for fletcher or cleverly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wud be a great buy good age wud be a good fit but after essiens injury and avb not having ventured in to the transfer market yet he probable prefer to go there

Agree0 Disagree0

I think porto wouldn't want to part with him for any less than 25 mil as he is their main midfield man..
i think wesley would bring a lot more creativity to united though..
especially watching him just now against man city up until the point he got subbed off, he is very calm and hardly puts a foot wrong he did actually remind me of paul scholes.. as he was playing slightly deeper than he usually does

I think hes a fantastic player if we cant get him wot about miguel veloso?

Just watching City V Inter on Sky and the commentator talking of Sneijder says expects deal to Utd to go through but not before both Chelsea and City have tried to hijack the deal and land Sneijder themselves.

Believable2 Unbelievable18

I'm watching the match too, Sneijder playing very deep all most in front of the back 4 , has spent most of the match walking about does, nt look very intrested does he
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

No he didnt. He said that there is a chance he will come to manchester, and united is more likely, and he then speculated about the chances of city and chelsea hijacking the bid. You have obviously heard one thing and translated it into what you wanted him to say. MU19

Agree0 Disagree0

He played deep yesterday as well. Trying to prove to SAF that he wont occupy the same space as Rooney?

Agree0 Disagree0

Get a grip? im not the one misconstruing things am i? at no point did the commentators say "sneijder will sign for united after chelsea and city have put bids in for him, and only after they have" but i suppose if talksport are talking about it then hey ho it must be right, because talksport gets everything right and is always the first to break accurate news isnt it? ive not once read one decent article from their website and not once have heard anything other then speculation on their radio station. maybe its you that needs get a grip my friend.

Interesting stuff from Balague on twitter:

"Thiago (#FCB) could have gone for 10m euros before July.Chelsea and Man Utd tried hard to sign him. Finally Bcn made him a superoffer 2 stay"

Too bad, he's going to be a great player. But I suppose it saves us the trouble of another 'Fabregas saga' in 5 years.

Matthew...

Believable17 Unbelievable0

What's wrong with having a talented player like Thiago for just five years? By then Morrison, Pogba & Tunnicliffe will be first teamers. I would offer £25m for Thiago, with Cesc only being offered £60k a week by Barcelona, Thiago must be on a maximum of £20k a week. I am sure if we offer to treble his wages he would be interested to join up with is pal De Gea.

United to move for Lassana Diarra, since Fletcher will miss the start of season. Pogba will be involved slightly more as well as Robbie Brady in the league cup

Believable16 Unbelievable29

If we do make a move for Lassana Diarra, I would suggest that Fletcher's virus is even more serious than we think. If he was due back by, say, mid-September, I cannot believe that a replacement would be brought in.
Mike B.

Agree0 Disagree0

Afraid Brady is on loan at Hull, already scored a stoink against the scousers so hes amazing IMO.

Sanshine

Agree0 Disagree0

Diarra is a defensive midfielder of dubious quality.Fletcher is a box to box midfielder whose sum is better than his parts. Why do you think that if a player is crap at Real , we should buy him at the most glorious club in the World
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt this is true. Fletcher has been quoted as saying that he is raring to go and is now at a better weight than he was prior to his illness. I see no evidence that his mystery illness hasn't completely subsided.

OK guys, I have got some info to throw into the pot.
First of all I have stated on a number of previous posts that I do not believe WS will sign for united due to the size of the overall financial package.
I have however received some info last night from a reasonable source.
Manchester United have held very low keys talks with Sneijder's camp prior to going to the US concerning the size of package he would be looking at iF a transfer was to take place. United have gone away to work on those figure's but have not said yes or no.
For the transfer to happen, there would have to be some comprimise from all parties. United and Sneijders people need to meet somewhere in the middle , maybe with a little help from Nike. If United have to move significantly towards Sneider's requirements they would look to Inter comprimising on a supsected 35m Euro transfer fee. On United's return, we will look at offloading a number of players. Expect Gibson, Kusczack, and Diouf to leave before the window shuts either on loan or on permanent deals. It is also thought that Berba may be sacrificed without being replaced United's fixed costs must not exceed a certain percentage of it's overall turnover.

So guys, a deal is possible but there is a lot of work to do between now and the end of August including number of outgoing deals and meetings including Sneijder's people and Nike to be concluded. If there is a level of comprimise from all concerned the deal will go ahead.
Eds please post this on the rumours site as my source is pretty sure of all of this.

The Word

Believable32 Unbelievable6

Of course United have to keep a rational wage structure.

In the recessionary country in which we live we have to be prudent

Agree0 Disagree0

This sounds very reasonable, and does not contradict anything that the club have said in the past few days. Personally, I think that Sneijder would be a very good buy for us, and would suit the way that we play. I hope you information is therefore accurate - only a month and we will know for sure
Mike B.

Agree0 Disagree0

May sound a bit thick here but what as nike got to do with any thing in the deal i know they sponsor both parties but and money would be made on there part but can not see nike putting any money in the deal..as anything like this ever been done before i have never heard of it

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not unheard of for sponsors such as Nike and Adidas to assist with big deals like this one including financially

Agree0 Disagree0

Boring, lets get someone younger, hungrier, less greedy and less injury prone 25 games per season for 4 years is 100 games @ a cost of £70m = £700,000 per game. He's simply not that good. Everyone is just thinking about world cups and Inters triple year 2009-2010. Take a look at last year and his Real years, he's stats are underwhelming

Nike intervened when Ronaldo left Barca for Inter and gave him an improved contract with them to bump up the missing dosh he required.

Sky Sports News: Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed the latest bout of speculation linking Wesley Sneijder with a move to Manchester United as 'absolute nonsense'. Reports had claimed that United had told Sneijder it was time to make a decision on the club's contract offer, but Ferguson says he has never discussed the Inter Milan midfielder.

So this is telling me that the link that was posted earlier on this site (about if Sneijder wants to come that he must accept the contract offer that SAF has given him) is in the words of Sir Alex Ferguson "absolute nonsense".

I hate to say it but I really cannot see anybody else signing for us in this transfer window. I hope I'm proved wrong. We need a midfielder who is a good playmaker and can win the ball from the opposition.

Believable10 Unbelievable10

The sneijder deal is done. If Inter say they want him to play in the cup match against A C Milan next wkend the deal will be announced the week after if they are not using him in the cup match it will be announced later this week. Utd have flown back from America, where do you think Gill and SAF are flying to later today? Dublin, dont think they are after a City or Celtic player do you? Just watch this Transfer play out now.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's just a ploy from SAF and Sneijder to have Inter accept a lower bid. Inter is desperate for the money so that they can buy Tevez. The lower bid means the higher Sneijder paycheck.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kind of agree, have been surprised at United's constant link to Sneijder anyway. United are generally a 'growing' club in that they usually don't buy the apparent finished article (i know there's exceptions ). I'd be surprised to see 35 million being spent on a player that'll be 28 next birthday. What further surprises me is the seemingly big difference in what Gill and Fergie are saying to the media. Gill says United are open for business so to speak, yet Fergie has said Cleverly is a 'big chance to start the season'. Is it all mind games?

Agree0 Disagree0

SAF has only denied that United have made a take it or leave it offer to WS as reported in the Mail. He also said there is nothing new to report This will all come to a head inside the next 2 weeks.

The Word

Agree0 Disagree0

I just can't understand everyone obsession with this injury prone Dutchman. He's a good player, when not injured, but we could get Adryan, Lucas and Ganso for the same kind of amount . Lucas is 18 but a full Brazilian international. Ganso is 21 and a full Brazilian international, he's already as good as WS. Adryan at 16 is one for the future.I like Ravel Morrison but he is very much a youth player, Lucas and Ganso have made the transition to the top table and won't be in prison anytime in the next few years. Or we could get Martin and Sossoko for way less than WS and they are 20 and 21. WS has had one good season at Inter, he couldn't cut it at Real, but was good at Ajax, Ajax didn't have much competition in the poor Dutch league. He has been very good for Holland in World Cups, but except for 2009-2010 he's been injured or ordinary in club football for years. He represents £70m in transfer fee and wages over 4 years and that is just too much for a 25 games a season player. there's Ganso, Martin, Hamsik, Lucas, Gotze and others, all younger, cheaper and better in club football at least.
There no doubt that we need one or ideally two midfielders, but lets forget WS, Modric and Nasri. I only hope SAF is being more imaginative than many on this site, I'm sure he is.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

MIK - get gripped mate. The guy is class as is Nasri & Modric and any of them would improve our CM position thats why we are linked with them and thats why we talk about them on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

How do you know any of these south Americans will perform well when they are relatively untested in a league of higher quality than the Brazilian league?

Agree0 Disagree0

WS is injury prone and I have doubts that he will make an improvement worth so much dosh in the physical prem. Nasri and Modric are not as good as Hamsik, ganso etc, so therefore overpriced. I do admit that there is a risk when bringing players over from other leagues. That why you get them at 18-24 give them time to adjust and if not, they have a sell on value. What happens if WS plays for us like he did at Real? By the time we sell him on in a season or two we'll have lost a very large chunk of change.Any plan B?

If Barca do get Fabregas, SAF has got to consider putting another serious inquiry in for Thiago, he looks like something special.

Believable29 Unbelievable6

Thiago just signed a new contract with barca, fool

Agree0 Disagree0

Be a good signing but thiago is going to play aside Fabergas and they'll be replacing inesta and xavi... Also with the new contract with a stupid amount of money for a buy out clause we would need to offer 40m+ because they know he is one for the future... What could united offer him Barcelona couldn't english weather and first team football

Agree0 Disagree0

"Thiago just signed a new contract with barca, fool"

And what has that got to do with anything? They were just making sure they will get the best possible fee for him. There is just as much chance in signing him now as there was before he signed a new contract. The fact remains if Barcelona want to sell then they will, nothing as changed.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why will anyone replace Iniesta? He's the same age as Sneijder at 27. He's also one, if not the best, player in the World - Wayne Rooney's and SAF's words as well as mine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thiago is 20 that's why he will replace inesta in the future... So a 3-5 yr loan deal would be good for him Barcelona won't make the mistake they made with Fabergas

OMG
Red Balls

Believable15 Unbelievable4

Follow the runners, watch them closely and the passing isn't the special part of their game, it's the runs that are made. The passes are nearly always a 10 yard pass, often not under pressure and they play the way they are facing (which is one of the first things you get taught as a footballer). The players who run in behind the defenders are what make them look so special, the player playing the through ball often has a 5-10 yard gap to aim for which isn't hard to hit. When they play the quick, one touch, two yard passes it does look good, but you can see every top team do that. The problem is, their forwards all have very good acceleration and fantastic football brains so tracking them isn't easy. The passing game is a VERY simple game to play, it just looks special in England because we basically play boot and chase, we need to start at the bottom (grass roots) and encourage the technically brilliant not the biggest/fastest players because players develop strength as they get older and if they have the mental ability then strength will not be necessary just helpful

Believable26 Unbelievable1

Welbeck looks more and more ready to step up.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was very concerned about him being too lightweight and at times he's looked like he wouldn't cope, However he's a lot more agile than I remembered so he seems to avoid a lot of clashes.

The Moon.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been fighting his corner for the past year. I told folk that Welback was a good player and will make it at United. He is only 20 and can improve even further. He holds the ball up well, he is quick, tall, a team player and is a local lad. And some plums on here thought he was going to be sold, including Ed001 who has disappeared.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll hold my hands up Syd and say that I thought it would of been possible, now however not a chance, I'm also starting too feel that Diouf maybe on his way, one decent game on this tour for him so I'm not too happy about that.

Back to welbeck though, I still have concerns over his size but I think he'll be valuable when it comes to playing smaller sides like Arsenal, West Brom, Wigan, etc, We've got an interesting season ahead of us hopefully we'll keep our CM to Anderson and Cleverley too.

The quotes are authentic, those were SAF's remarks. He's trying to have a decision made one way or the other. If Sneijder isn't happy with Man Utd's offer, he should say so.
