A youtube video has emerged (youtube.com/watch?v=dwIpFPIB-ek&feature=player_embedded) showing Fergie shouting at Bob Cass, the reporter who claimed Fergie said this:
"If he (Sneijder) wants to come, he must accept our contract offer.
"If not we have other options in mind. We are done talking, "
Ferguson has trusted this reporter for years now but has been made furious by Bob Cass leaking this information.
This rant confirms to me that Ferguson is trying to quietly negotiate a deal for Sneijder.

Just watched it, great to see the great one, Sir Alex still has the fire in his belly Not the clearest video but from what I heard and (all be it not realiable) lip read, Smeijder was not mentioned but Sir Alex telling this so called "close" reporter fudge off? (lost in Scottish translation) nice try to spark a rumour End of the day (classic footy line) Sneijder is on his way it's just a matter of time, just need to stop all the flirting and Wes will be here Roll on 20

After listening to it alot of times I have come to the conclusion that this is what is said:
SAF- "What the f**k are you doimg here today?"
Cass- "I'll tell you why, I said i'll show him my copy, to say 'Did I quote him'..eh? You better believe it."
SAF- "You know what? Tell your paper to f**k off."
That's what I could muster from that.

MPez, I too thought I heard something along those lines. Sounds like Mr Cass has done something to really peave SAF Its similar to a story some media guy told about SAF on talksport a while back (cant remember who he was), whereby he said SAF's favourite word is CONTROL and he has to feel in control of the media (as well as everything else) at all times or else he gets angry. The story was very similar, about SAF not speaking to a journo whom he had become close with for many years because he wrote a story that SAF was "losing control" at Old Trafford (a few years back). Anyway, its good to see Fergie is still as passionate as ever. And still in CONTROL too, thas for sure (wouldnt say otherwise, just in case he reads this site) : ) GazHP

Tbh all I've been getting all excited about our "marquee" signing as have all the guys I work with - will ws come or not etc - however I think back to 95 and the gutted feeling when saf was playing kids. Hmmm. Then I look at cleverly and I now question why I'm so worried. He was ace against barca and great last night. Personally be great to get sneijder but this kid looks fantastic.

Though it was against Barca and a bit lively,it still wasn't the real deal. we could do with 2 midfielders and maybe Cleverley as the 3 rd when we play 4-5-1.In 95 we had Scholes and Cleverley doesn't look that good, yet anyway
Martin and M'vila or Ganso and Sissoko. They wouldn't cost more than WS. Plus the whole WS thing is really, really boring

We defo shouldn't sell berba. I'll prob get slaughtered for this but how do we no chic will perform this season? Last season he was unknown and defenders didn't no how he played. This season however is different and defenders will no his strengths and weaknesses and he may not perform. What would we do if berba was sold and chicarito flopped? Just a thought. Jason mc

Well in that case if we get Sneijder we could at least play Rooney up top with Sneijder in behind him in his preferred position

Agree0

Good point but when I think of the goal he got against Chelsea that just sums his whole game up great vision gets into space always looking for the ball and cool infront of goals let's face it everybody knew bout van nistlerooy he only scored one goal outside the box but still defenders couldn't stop him scoring... Just worried if Rooney or Chic go missing can u see welbeck or macheda stepping up and scoring double digits
Agree0
Disagree0
Chicharito is class and will only get better andhe is young and is still learning. He prob will have a spell where he doesn't score but his movement is that good that he's impossible to stop.
We have a squad and when he has a dry spell they will step in. If we sell Berba then I reckon we will sign another attack minded player. i will be made up to be rid of Berba, he just doesn't suit the way we play and goes missing in big games.
Agree0

Dude I do understand what you are saying but really after the first couple of games defenders would know how he played. Besides I have faith in welbeck and believe he can deliver this season Carl
Agree0

We have "ROOOOOONEEEEY", ..
Welbeck, Owen, Macheda.
NANI will be interesting to see, if he is put forward like CR.
Dont worry mate, ...We ll be fine without Berbatov.
(I like berbatov, but he is getting old, ..i dont think United will renew his contract next season and surely SAF won t let him leave for free, after all we have already invested huge sum for him)
DC_9
Agree0

The thing you are saying doesn't even make sense m8.So we shouldn't sell berba because defenders know chicha's game, hmm.Doesn't that apply to berba as well who has been in england for over 4 years now? With your reasoning we should buy another striker so the defenders don't know his play...
bLaZe

Ye I agree with everythin everyone is saying just have a feeling we might regret selling him. Also the club doctor of chics former club sed he suffered with severe migranes. Something to worry about there maybe . Jason 'mc {Ed007's Note - In my late teens and early 20s I suffered terrible migraines Jason, don't know to this day what caused them but they subsided and became less frequent as I got older and by my mid 20s it was very rare. I still get them maybe once or twice a year (sometimes not for a couple of years) but I don't need to take medication or that to deal with them, very strange things altogether.}
Agree0
Disagree0
I doubt SAF is in any rush to ofload Berbatov, we do have the 12 month contract extension option. That said if we receive a good bid, say £15m, I reckon SAF would sell and put his faith, for this season at least, in Welbeck and Owen. We can use Nani or Young in behind Rooney too so lots of attacking options. Then of course we may also have Sneijder (90% done deal in my opinion).
Stockie
Agree0
Disagree0
I think Chic has more in has bag. Rather than look at it 'the defenders know his game' I would look at it 'I know the defenders and their game' Works both ways.
I think he has more up his sleeve and look forward to him kicking the ball into his own face and scoring again.
Agree0
Disagree0
Let's face it, Berba is a lazy striker. Doesn't make a lot of effort, but he does get the goals. But he ones he gets's 2 or 3 goals a game, he can go a few weeks without scoring. It's just the service he needs. Nani needs to get more crosses in rather than slowing down the game. Now we have young, we have a better chances, but it depends where we play him cause we have at least 4+ wingers
Agree0
Disagree0
Lets all be fair here. Berbatov IS a very good player...BUT he is 30 years old(or there abouts), he has only one year left on his contract (I know it can be extended for a year, but that would leave us in the same situation next year) and his style DOES NOT suit our pacey, counter-attacking style. I think he will do well elsewhere. But if we can get £15m+ for him, from anyone who's silly enough to pay that kind of money...lets bite their hands off and re-invest in a younger player who fits our style of play, before we lose him for next to nothing in a years time (when he is a year older, and probably wont have had the success he did last season IMO) GazHP
Agree0
Disagree0
Macheda, Wellbeck and Owen haven't scored as many goals ever for the 1st team as Berbatov did last season. Lets face it we may have a few strikers, but Owen, Diouf and Macheda would be more at home for Portsmouth then United. We always have 4 strikers, with Wayne, Chico, Berbatov and Wellbeck we'll have 3 and a half (Wellbeck being the half) Keep the Bulgarian, or buy. Though I think all our greenbacks should go on the centre midfield
Mik

Welbeck had a top class pre season, he's sharp With the ball and without it, I'd far rather him be 3rd striker that Berba He's gonna be a class act throw him in the deep end now and cash in on Berba before it's too late I dont know why i'm even writing this comment cause they never get posted anyway

Transfer merry-go-round moving all a bit slowly at the moment. I can see the transfer of Berbatov to PSG being a catalyst though, with Sneijder going to United, then Inter buying Tevez & Casemiro. Nasri to City & Fabregas to Barcelona will fund Mata & Samba to Arsenal, then with Chelsea feeling left behind they will finally stump up for Modric.

does all this Sneijder drama remind anyone else of the Ozil situation last year dragging on all with Man Utd not officially declaring an interest and look what happened there. As with Robben and Robinho, If they are really interested why play these child like games go public and put the ball in their court all this cloak and dagger never really achieve anything for the club.
Wanting to catch Barca who have just signed Sanchez and probably Cesc who will be a squad player compare that with our signings, The one area needing a massive overhaul hasn't been addressed.

Inter Milan remain adamant that Wesley Sneijder will not be sold to Manchester United.
This Sneijder thing is a big mess, ...one day inter says man utd can put a bid for Sneijder, the other day they say he is not for sale.....
I will be happy if we get Nasri for £22M, and the remaining money (£13M) lets spend on a defensive midfielder.

SAF is aware that Jones can play as a defensive midfielder. This is why he hasn't gone for anyone like Diarra or De Rossi. I think if we can sign Sneijder or Nasri then we'll be playing the diamond (4-1-2-1-2) formation next season with Jones as the defensive midfielder and Sneijder/Nasri as the attacking one.
Agree0
Disagree0
We won't get Nasri because of Man City.
Whatever we bid, they'll bid higher. What ever wages we offer, they'll offer more.
Yeah, Nasri claims he wants trophies and not money but the way City are spending at the moment... it won't be long before they start winning trophies. Hate to say it but that's what's going to happen.

Get nasri for 20 mill, or free next season and offer him big wages, and go for fellaini to partner him in midfield that midfield would be too good for any prem team, and maybe match barca
duggo

He is cheaper, younger and we know how he plays in the premier league. He will cost half of what Sneijder will and we have a better chance of getting him as wages aren't much of an issue

Match barca? the only team capable of beating barca are Real.
Xavi, Iniesta, Busquest, Thiago, Cesc ( very possible.
Villa, Sanchez, Pedro, messi

It's looking more and more likely that Berbatov is leaving. Who knows how much we will get for him but apparantly it'll be about 15-18m. Do you guys think it is likely we will bring in a replacement? In that sort of price range there are a few options. Rondon from Malaga is my pick I think he would do very well in the premier league but whether Malaga who are now very rich would sell is another story.

Would be nice to get keisuke honda, he can play as a striker and is left footed (we have no left footed forwards) would cost about £15 mil.. i can't understand why there isn't much interest in this guy from other clubs :/
Agree0
Disagree0
No I can't see it myself, he'll give Welbeck and Macheda their chance this season behind Rooney, Little Pea & Owen
Agree0
Disagree0
I am not sure we need another striker if we were to bring in Sneijder or another CAM player. Red Man may disagree, but I think an on-form Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck & Owen are enough for the striking department. We have plenty of goalscorers in Young, Nani, Cleverley, Park, Giggs & possibly Sneijder too. Goals simply won't be a problem for us, Vidic gets his fair share too.
But next season (2012/13) we could replace Owen with a tidy little finisher, perhaps Erick Torres/Will Keane? Morrison can replace Giggs and Pogba will be introduced into the team. So IMO I don't think we need to replace Berbatov as long as we bring in a CAM player like Sneijder.
If we can get £25m for Berbatov, Kuszczak & Gibson and bring in Sneijder, then we would have net spent around £50m this summer and would have completely rejuvenated our squad, give everyone a new contract and our wage bill would have not been increased. That is what you call great summer business.

I've said before, If Berba is sold he won't be replaced. losing his salary off the fixed costs will help meet WS demands
The Word
Agree0

I think whether or not he is sold will depend on us being able to find a suitable replacement. We do not need any more young strikers (as much as I like the look of Eric Torres). At this moment I do not see Diouf, Macheda, Wellbeck or Owen being capable of filling the void left (week in week out) if Rooney or Chico are injured for an extended period. Therefore he should stay unless we are able to pick up an established goalscorer for a reasonable price.
T0MB0Z
Agree0

Berbatov's style of play frustrates me. He doesn't play the united way. There's been a lot of times where United have hit their opposition on the counter attack and everytime he got the ball. He would just turn his back on the defender and just hold the ball. While he does this, all the other players on the opposition get back to help defend and what could've been a goal scoring opportunity... turns to nothing.
Whereas with Hernandez... counter attacking is perfect for him because he has alot of pace, he's always in the right place.
I'd pick Hernandez over Berbatov every single day of the week.
If we can get £15 million for Berbatov... I'd snatch their hand off and say thank you very much.
As for his replacement if he leaves... I think SAF has made it clear that Danny welbeck will be playing a big role for United this season. I don't think there's any need to replace Berbatov when we have Rooney, Hernandez, Owen, and Welbeck as attacking options.
We need a midfielder. Moutinho, Nasri or Sneijder... any would be great signings.
Agree0
Disagree0
If Berbatov left, we'd have Machada, Owen and Wellbeck to fill the void he'd leave. That isn't a very powerful back up. Macheda isn't premiership class, let alone United class. Owen is injured more often then not and is OK for a sub or the league cup, but not major games. That leaves Wellbeck and this is his make or break season in my eyes. I'd keep Berbatov, unless SAF has another Chico up his sleeve. I'd rather sell Machada (£4m), Diouf(£2m), Gibson(£6m) and Evens(£7m) and buy a young holding midfielder M'vila, Sissoko or the like
Mik
Agree0

Sydney
I have long said Berbatov needs to go and be replaced with a forward more in the mold of the way we play.
I dont agree on the goalscoring front. Hernandez injury is something to keep an eye on, hit by a ball and out for a month, doesnt have the right feel to it. Take out Rooney and Hernandez and who will score our goals? Owen?
Welbeck actually did well last night in a non man utd game but appeared to get injured again when it was hardly competitive. It is funny when I suggested Fabregas I was told he was too injury prone yet it seems that is overlooked for Welbeck.
We need a midfield player and also a striker who is similar to Hernandez so the team dont need to change the way they play. I would be concerned if this is a sacrifice on a financial basis to appease the Glazers enabling SAF to spend on the midfield player he wants.
I like Owen for his experience but imagine Champions league quarter finals and our striking options are Welbeck and Macheda (as little pace as Berbatov?), please tell me who would be happy with that?

Just wondering whether the constant protestations from SAF about no real interest in WS are driven by the fear that Citeh are waiting to pounce for the Dutchman. It is possible that the rumoured offer from England last weekend may have come from the noisy neighbours Eds, do you feel Citeh have a genuine interest in WS or is just mischief making again? {Ed007's Note - City are semi-interested (is that even a word???), but they will only make a move for Sneijder if they fail to get Nasri.}

It has nothing to do with other clubs hijacking the deal, all of the top clubs will know Sneijder is wanted by United and that they have spoken to the players representatives. SAF will keep it quiet in-case Sneijder rejects us. It would not be good for the club's reputation if a player of his magnitude snubs us. So if he doesn't sign, by saying we were never interested in him will save us face.

PSG would outbid Newcastle and I think if Berbatov left, PSG would be more attractive. He'd get paid more or at least as much as he is now, at NU he'd have to take a 50% hit on his wages. Plus the last I heard NU were hoping to get him on the cheap under £10m. PSG are talking £18-£20m. They are also going to have a powerful squad and be fighting for honours.NU will be in the lower half of the prem and maybe even fighting relegation

Like most I'd love a rich middle-eastern fairy God-father, but I feel it's probably not true. If we had that much financial clout, we'd have out bid, clubs for players like Nasri, Pastore, Neymar etc. Maybe I'll be proved wrong and we'll buy 2 quality midfielder we all know we need, for £80m but I doubt it. Just the Glazers making sure their investment keeps increasing in worth, by winning yet more competitions

Sneijder Update
@VincenzoPerotti(Worked as a football correspondent with ESPN, Sky Italia, LiveFutbol24. Currently free lance, with strong inside links to Serie A, EPL and La Liga)
Sneijder and MUFC will meet then on the Thursday after the England vs Holland game. Deal Finalised NEXT FRIDAY. The deal will be agreed with Inter on Monday. Sneijder's agent will speak with #MUFC on the week commencing 8th August. Inter will not act on it until the week after however as they dont want low morale before what they see as a big game on saturday vs AC
Firstly Inter dont want to upset fans before the AC game. Then Sneijder is away with the national team. Patience

Could have been a tad more insightful Ed.....
Well I think Macheda and Welbeck are certainly wanted at the club this year, especially if Berbatov goes as they are great cover for our main strikers.
The only possibilities would be Pogba, Morrison or Tunnicliffe as they have just recently been promoted to the first team squad, however all three are held in high regards, and Fergie may want to keep them for cover, or maybe even has a view to start pogba in CM for some games. {Ed007's Note - Ravel Morrison in Glasgow? Yeah that would do him a power of good. The rest of what you wrote is rather confusing.
