Ed002, just a quick one if your available please mate. I've heard today that Liverpool are in for Tony Kroo's, are we showing any interest at all, I think we should be, he is exactly the type of player we should be looking at, and in my personal opinion he is an upgrade on Stootman too, plus he is international team mates with Bastian too.

Also do you think we might be interested in signing another player, in a different position, defender perhaps?

Thanks Ed, keep up the good work for all us fans everyday, great site by the way.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed004's Note - Toni Kroos will not be moving clubs and Ed 2 doesn't answer on here anymore}

03 Aug 2015 22:57:02
Haha I'd love toni Kroos but as if Madrid would even entertain a bid!! The rat eaters are losing the plot there

Agree2 Disagree2

04 Aug 2015 04:19:58
Are you serious? Midfielder is the last thing we should be looking at

Agree5 Disagree2

04 Aug 2015 21:01:29
If we sign Kroos, we could play all season with a 3man midfield.
My god the games we would control.
Kroos, Carrick,Schweni, Schneriderlin, Fellaini, Herrera, Blind

You ok Ed, not sure if I've asked in the past but with all the talk of centre backs do we have any current interest in Mehdi Benatia from Bayern?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I'm fine and none}

03 Aug 2015 22:26:59
Thankgod for that he's pants

Several reports reporting that Pedro will be done as soon as tomorrow . How true is that ed?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I don't think it will be done by tomorrow however I think there is a good chance he will be signed}

03 Aug 2015 19:14:12
Reports also saying we could be interested in pepe and we're hoping to get him and pedro in to finish off our transfer business. Be interesting to know what use all think of pepe ?

Agree0 Disagree7

03 Aug 2015 19:36:37
I wondered when pepes name would come up! Certainly better than jones evans and smalling put together so why not

Agree2 Disagree9

03 Aug 2015 19:41:26
I can't stand Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, but I would rather have them in my team than Pepe. I can not stand the guy. We don't need him in our team getting sent off or rolling around on the ground like he has been shot.

Otamendi, Garay, inigo Martinez, howedes, rudiger yes, Pepe, hell no!

Agree13 Disagree3

03 Aug 2015 20:49:08
I totally agree huggy don't want him either but we definitely need someone our cbs are far too injury prone I'm surprised we haven't looked at inigo martinez would be a shrewd signing

Agree1 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 22:58:37
This is getting ridiculous now. Pepe is one of the best centre backs in the world with vast experience and you would all rather Jones, Evans, Rojo and Smalling?! i'm done

Agree1 Disagree8

04 Aug 2015 05:41:43
No one wants Pepe? And you guys prefer the softies in our team? Goodness. Wonder why he starts so consistently all the time in one of the best line-ups in the world! I would love him here and prefer him to smack some opposition CFs time and again. Our team actual needs some tough jobs. Its gone too soft. How can one not want Pepe? Deary me.

Agree0 Disagree3

04 Aug 2015 06:32:29
Pepe is a walking red card and a childish play actor. That's why people don't want him.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 08:34:30
Rafael was sold because he was said to be too "reckless". I wonder what LVG would make of Pepe

. you only need to look at Portugal's opening world cup 2014 game if you want an idea of why nobody wants him near our team.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 09:26:11
Probably the same people who didn't want Roy Keane because he used to kick people and get sent off a lot, he didn't do too badly.

You find when the 'horrible dirty player' is on your team you actually quite like him.

Agree3 Disagree1

04 Aug 2015 09:55:31
Not a massive fan of Pepe and his antics but he'd improve our team significantly. GDS hits the nail on the head perfectly re: how easy it is to overlook and/or accept the personality flaws of your own players.

Agree0 Disagree1

04 Aug 2015 10:14:15
Think Pepe would fit EPL very good and would be the no shit CB we need! His reputation isn't the best though, but still would do more good than bad!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 10:24:15
I would hate to see Pepe in a United shirt. Never forget that assault on Casquero. If you hate Suarez for biting you absolutely cannot like Pepe.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 11:58:05
not Pepe! Please no!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 12:09:05
GDS. I take your point but don't necessarily agree that Pepe can be that kind of player for united.

What is going on with Victor Valdes?
A newspaper is reporting that his kit is removed from U21s dressing room and told that he is no longer in first team also. And also Herrera, Mata, DDG are not happy with the way LVG is handling their fellow spaniard. Is this really happening? . I seriously can see poison slowly spreading at Old Trafford . can't valdes just apologize to LVG or LVG is too proud to accept his apology(if he has offered one)
This is really turning out to be annoying

Believable1 Unbelievable6

03 Aug 2015 17:30:56
Srestha
The key word here is 'reporting'

Agree5 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 17:51:11
well reportedly LVG came in last season and told DDG he was not convinced he was good enough and was never grand enough to apologize and admit DDG was pretty good.
And that's what was keeping DDG from signing the extension.

Hope it's all paper talk, but there seems to be some issue with LVG and Spaniards (Herrera, DDG, Valdes)

Agree0 Disagree5

03 Aug 2015 18:11:27
Which would explain why he's trying to sign Pedro

Agree9 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 18:28:50
He has a problem with Spanish players, hence he wants to sign Sergio Ramos and Pedro.

03 Aug 2015 18:47:32
Funny thread!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 22:19:38
Maybe he just doesn't like players that don't appreciate being a Manchester United player regardless of nationality?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 06:33:46
The Valdes vs LvG thing is deeper than just his time at United. LvG gave Valdes a second chance, and a really kind one too, and Valdes let him down again. LvG is 100% right to cast him aside.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - how did Valdes let him down? This is simply because LVG doesn't think he is good enough, nothing to do with any falling out as such. LVG wants rid and is trying to push him out of the door, this is what he does and why he often ends up falling out with players, he is ruthless and players like to feel important. He treats them as little more than commodities to be chopped and changed as he feels fit. Nothing wrong with either viewpoint, it is just that when you put them together it leads to clashes like this.}

03 Aug 2015 17:27:49
Wonder if this is to sweeten them for a deal for one of their players?

Agree1 Disagree2

03 Aug 2015 18:42:00
Would be nice gabz but l can't see that happening at this stage.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 06:35:38
With our outbound transfer fees, you need to bear in mind clubs are often having to take players on higher wages than they are used to. You need to think about the total cost to a club of owning the player - transfer fee & wages. Our transfer fees are lower to allow clubs to be able to pay higher wages so we can get those high wages off our books.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 12:58:20
Decent price for a hugely overated player considering the wages we had him on. we were lucky we didn't have to offload him on a free. not one big club came in for him and very few small clubs

young given a new 3 year deal

Believable3 Unbelievable1

03 Aug 2015 11:42:06
By giving Young a new deal, would this be to up his price to move him on, or generally we want him to stay? Like I said amazing attitude but he can't continue to play as he was as does the SAME thing EVERYTIME?

Agree1 Disagree4

03 Aug 2015 12:19:17
But ronnie
He's 'young'. Surely you must like him. ;)

Agree7 Disagree2

03 Aug 2015 15:51:18
The management talk about a pyramid system when buying players. i'd like to see were Young featured in the building process. I bet he was near the bottom of the pile. one decent season last year and rewarded with. Three year deal. amazing

Agree2 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 16:15:58
Its all to do with home grown status.

Agree4 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 17:31:15
Quality squad player who was excellent last season, is homegrown and won't mind sitting on the bench when we find an improvement. In a squad of 25 they can't all be world class and can't all be young!

Why people would sell him is beyond me.

Agree7 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 18:46:05
You expressed my sentiments perfectly, HoneyBadger.

Why would you want to get rid of one of the best performers of last season? He's no Neymar and LvG is not expecting 'Neymaresque' performance when he plays him.

Plus, he is home grown. We can't be doing a city and not have any English players at all. Or else, in few years' time, we would be paying huge sums even for half decent English players.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 23:00:37
Young should be sold. Most predictable player I have ever seen in my life and his performances last season were incredibly overrated.

Agree1 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 09:20:32
Hi Eds

2 quick questions if that's alright:

1) Do you think Utd will sign Pedro before the first match of the season or do you think it will drag on and he won't sign in time?

2) Do you think we will sign Zlatan? Only asking because I was at a party in Newcastle on Saturday night and my fiancée's brother was sure that it would happen (he works in a bookies & has told me about Newcastle signings in the past way before they happen but this is the first time he has said anything about Utd).

Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - 1) I think Pedro has become a very real possibility, van Gaal wants him, but Barca will drag it out a bit I think in order to get the best possible fee. With Barca offloading a number of fringe players already, this might be a difficult deal to get done, if Woodward can make it happen at all, he will deserve great credit as Barca are reluctant to sell him before January now.

2) His agent certainly thinks there is a chance of a deal being done, he has spoken to United about him. PSG are very keen to get his wages off the books, so they will not be an issue. The only question is LVG, this is not a player he would choose if there were other options, so it is a maybe for me mate.}

03 Aug 2015 10:07:40
Having a big lump like Zlatan up front would certainly suit LVG a little 001, rather than him throwing Felliani up there when the philosophy fails to reap rewards!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure Zlatan is just a big lump to be fair! He is very technically accomplished. Though it would give that option in times of need. Nothing wrong with it as a tactic for a change anyway. The problem is when you only use the hoof, rather than it being a deliberate tactic to suit a need sometimes.}

03 Aug 2015 12:45:55
dont know if zlatan would like the fact that rooney is our no.1 striker. we'll have to wait and see

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 13:15:06
i think zlatan would be no. 1 striker if he came. especially if he shows his worth early on! he's world class!!! rooney is a great player but not world class in my opinion. atleast not at his level.

Agree3 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 13:27:39
the next cantona!!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 13:30:57
Talking of Swedish.
Remember the little stint Larsson had with us?. I was gutted when he went!!
Wonder if he's bent Ibra's ear a little?.
Ibrahimovich would b an amazing signing in my eyes. If he did come, he would know what to expect from LVG
😉😈😈

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 14:05:39
Ibra for me would bring the sparkle that Cantona brought. the arrogance and the skill to back it up. He would be strong enough to deal with the PL (look at his handling of Terry).
He would be an ideal signing for me. even if it meant Rooney dropping in behind him as number 10 with Deepay and Pedro either side.
He would be effective. fun to watch and as with LVG it could blow up quickly . but he is the sort of class we could do with

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 14:25:05
Ed001,you mentioned about 2 or 3 weeks back that we had interest in lewandowski, but had probably put in on back burner while we explored a deal foe zlatan. Have we still got btw rest in RL or have we moved on completely from him? I think zlatan is a wonderful player but fear that between sweinsteigger Carrick and ageing Rooney we are just setting ourselves up for another major squad overhaul in two years time. Thanks for your time Ed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the interest is still there, but you have a lot to buy and even United have FFP constrictions that stop them just paying what is needed. Which is why a deal for Otamendi has been a problem, you simply can't meet the asking price and pay out for a forward too, just yet anyway.}

03 Aug 2015 17:17:46
Manchester United's twitter account is re-tweeting @Zlatanfacts. done deal me thinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Aug 2015 17:42:39
Ed001 is that last part to mean United will be able to complete some signings once Di Maria and/or De Dea is sold?

Also, if United are restricted in their spending by FFP would that make a deal for the Bales or the Mullers of the world impossible regardless of the player's stance and his clubs stance?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, it is simply that a deal for Otamendi requires the club to make a large up front payment, whereas a lot of deals can be done over a 3 year period, which is standard. So you could pay the money, you just want it spread over a period of years, rather than one up front payment, so that the increase in revenue lessens its impact on the club's finances. With Zlatan, PSG just want his wages gone, so they are willing to agree terms more favourable to United, whereas Bayern are not just looking to offload Lewandowski so want terms favourable to them.}
