Ed there are reports of daddy Mamic implying that Modric will move back to the PL and to us in the summer. Do you know anything about this or any verbal agreement? {Ed002's Note - There is certainly no agreement for a move to any club. However, with a change of manager in the summer it is most likely he would want to talk to the new manager to see where he stands - then perhaps a move.}

Just read on tv sport gossip column that united will sign begovic for £9M but keep De Gea. Is there any truth behind this?
Nov00 {Ed002's Note - I think there is every chance Begovic will arrive - but one GK will leave.}

Believable15 Unbelievable18

I think he will replace Lindegaard and Johnstone will replace Amos.

its lindegaard who's going. He's not good enough for united and his mistakes have shown that. Although de gea has made mistakes he has shown plenty of talent that can be moulded unlike lindegaard. The idea is to bring in a proven prem keeper to compete with de gea.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its a safrguard for De Gea leaving. SAF knows he will want to go back eventually and this is to ensure we still have a top keeper when he leaves.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree1

The editor told us a couple of weeks ago that United are not satisfied with the goalkeeping position. Clearly the manager is not 100% convinced by either DDG or Lindegaard so bringing in Begovic would steady the ship somewhat. I am sure if United could get back £15m for DDG they would in an heartbeat, but that seems unlikely so instead of taking a big loss on DDG selling Lindegaard will probably be the best option. This would suit me fine as I like DDG and think he possesses immense potential, but I do think the club would prefer to get £15m back for DDG and keep Lindegaard at number two. That is just my opinion. I have said for a long time that if the club could turn back time they wouldn't have signed DDG, I genuinely believe that.

Dan I think its a possibility. I think its Lindegaard who will go this summer with Begovic coming to compete for the number one spot. I think he'll play in the games where we need a more physical presence. I think de gea has earned next season to see if he improves. If not or if the homesickness remains he'll go in 2014 and begovic would be undisputed number one, with a new number two coming in or johnstone stepping up.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's pretty clear Lindegaard is off in the summer. He's said many times that he wanted to be number one and wouldn't put up with being sat on the bench. Begovitch will presumably be coming in to replace him

Tommy H

Agree0 Disagree1

Tommy, Lindegaard has said no such thing. He always said he is happy to stay at United to fight for the number one spot. That opinion was of course strengthened by him signing a new deal last year. The problem the club have is neither DDG (currently) or Lindegaard are good enough to be a Manchester United number one goalkeeper. So a solid keeper needs to come in to steady the ship. If United cannot get their money back for DDG then there only option will be to sell Lindegaard and keep DDG. United will not make a major loss on DDG after two years, Lindegaard will be the likely departure but not because he isn't a good enough number two, because he is a good enough number two. He will leave because we will not be able to get enough money back for DDG. Begovic will NOT join United to be a back-up keeper just like he wouldn't be back-up for Chelsea, he will only join if he is the number one keeper and he will be the number one keeper if he is signed.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree3

I strogly believe that de gea will not be sold unless he creats pique situation around him. All coaches and manager himself believes in him. And he has proved it being an excellent shot stopper. Once he will develop fully physically that we are already seeing ( has put on weight nd muscles) he will be 10 years solution. Even loan spell at another premier league club is not an option in managers mind right now. Forget selling him.

Rodio17

Agree4 Disagree0

I don't believe for one minute that United regret signing Ddg I also don't believe they would want to sell him imo
United have several very good young players who if they continue to develop will be top players for the club.
I maintain that it is not United's style to buy young players and sell them after 24 month especially players with the potential of ddg.

We buy and develop young players I think it's something United and fergy pride themselves on
Jred

Agree4 Disagree0

Agree Rodio, all staff at united want DDG to be no. 1 for a long time and so do I. But, homesick or not, he will eventually go back to Spain whether it is this summer or any summer after that and we need someone secure for the long term. I think Begovic will come in as number 1 and SAF is just saying to De Gea you can go if you want or you can fight for your place (knowing De Gea will elect to leave).

Dan

Agree1 Disagree0

I think signing any Spanish player is a bad idea because they will always want to return to Spain to play for either Barca or Real. Shame because Spanish players tend to be the best around atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nonsense, Why do people talk about Spanish players returning home like they are aliens. The same can be said about any nationality but the premiership is full of other nationalities that stay for years or even their full career. Even the likes of reina, he is Spanish isn't he. It is always a risk when you buy anyone that they may want to move elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are rumours of Reina to Barca. The difference between a player from Montenegro and Spain is that Montenegro don't have a real or Barca. Their is a big cultural difference between here and Spain as well not to mention a different climate.
Like SAF said every European or South American player typically only stays for a few years except the great Dane.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney fergie won't be looking to offload DDG, he knew what he was buying was raw talent and he is going to be one hell of a keeper. We may bring in Begovic but it will be for him and DDG to fight for a first team place and to help while DDG develops further. He will be one of the very best keepers in the world in 2-3 years. If we get Begovic we will have a fantastic last line of defence and I for one will be very happy with those 2 at our fantastic club.

Brendan

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan, I hope you are right mate, but think DDG's missus made it pretty clear that they would like to move back home. If United got a tidy offer fro Spain they would take it I'm sure, but I cannot see a tidy offer coming in so he will stay meaning Lindegaard will need to be moved on as three keepers is not necessary.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

"David is very happy at Manchester United, but of course he would like to return to Spain and if it's Barca it gets even better, " she told a Catalan TV channel.

If you take in to account she is talking to a Catalan channel I would maybe take the above statement with a bunch of salt, she also says he's very happy at United so again I wouldn't read to much in to it, but I guess we will find out in the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed002. Do you have an idea of which keeper will be moving on? If so, are you able/willing to share with us?

Thanks

Gav {Ed002's Note - I could see either or both De Gea and Lindegaard leaving.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Saying he's very happy at United is irrelevant when she openly says "of course he would like to return to Spain". That message couldn't be any clearer. I am not convinced anyone from Spain will offer enough for us to sell him, they will wait and try and get him on the cheap so for that very reason I think he could stay beyond the summer. If Begovic signs then he will be our number one. He will not join unless he is number one, he made that very clear to Chelsea when they wanted him as back-up to Cech.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, would you agree that if Barcelona, RM, AM or Valencia do not want De Gea, then it's going to be difficult to sell him this summer? United will not want to make a significant loss on him so unless he moves to another country would you agree that Spain is probably unachievable for him this summer meaning he could stay at United as a number two? Do you know of any interest in him at all?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I don't agree Syd. There are going to be a number of goalkeepers changing clubs this summer and there is a good chance he is one.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, I agree with you that the club will want to offload him, but there needs to be somewhere for him to go for that to happen.

Ed, any United news of late? I know the summer is a long way off, but other than Strootman, Begovic & Lewandowski is there any others that we are looking closely at? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - The club needs to decide if they want to move De Gea on or not - and if they do they need to look at whatever offers they get. There will be a number of clubs moving goalkeepers in from loan, out on loan together with those moving in afresh and completely out this summer. Manchester United are in my view amongst those clubs. Arsenal, Anzhi, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Santos and perhaps AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus will be looking.

In terms of news, I would have thought Strootman, Begovic & Lewandowski to be a pretty good start.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'She' probably wants to go back to Spain, I don't think he does at the minute. If he does go I hope it is because he wants to not because his stupid gf wants him to or because united want to get rid because in the long run we'll miss out hugely on a very high quality keeper.

Brendan

Agree1 Disagree0

Kind of swaying off the subject here lads, but what do people make of Fabio playing at RB for QPR? Does that mean he will rival his brother at RB when he returns from his loan? That would leave Evra and Buettner for LB. Will Evra be sold and Baines brought in as a direct replacement? Or someone else perhaps? Twins for RB, Rio/Vidic - Small/Evans & Jones for CB and Baines/Buettner for LB? Could Rio stay with Vidic moving on? Club may feel now is the time to cash in on him with Anzhi willing to offer big money for him? Ogbonna or Hummels to come in perhaps? Or does the manager think Rio, Smalling, Evans & Jones are experienced enough so will go all out for young Kurt Zouma?

What is people's views on the defence?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for the info. Ed2 and for sharing your opinions. Makes for interesting reading even though I'm far from desperate to see DDG move.

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Can anyone confirm if Fabio is out of contract at the end of the season
I'm not sure we will add to the defence this summer
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney!

I think Fabio is more of a natural RB so perhaps he and his brother will compete for one spot in the future, good point.

I'd love for us to get Baines and if we did our fullbacks would be sorted - he could no doubt slot straight in with Fabio providing excellent depth at RB. Having seen Shaw play a few times though I wouldn't be against signing him as an altenative. And I think that could work out with Fabio rotating with him in the short term, before Shaw making LB his own (Buttner as cover) and Fabio returning to RB with Raf.

So I'd be more than happy with either Baines or Shaw at LB.

I'm quite happy with our CB options TBH, good mix of age and experience. With Fabio coming back to cover at FB, Jones and Smalling will need more time in the middle where they belong. Evans has come on a lot and is now a relatively experienced head. Vidic is a leader and I'd like to see him gradually improve again and stick around to form a partnership with either Evans/Smalling (before Jones takes Vidic's place). Rio is still a valuable asset and good to have in the dressing room to help Jones/Smalling - I'd like to see him stick around for 1 more year to pass on his experience.

I think summer 2014 would be the time to buy a new CB. So just Baines or Shaw for me, which would leave us to address CM and the wings.

Looked at it myself and Fabio is out of contract this summer
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabio's contract runs until June 2014.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd I thought that myself as it was reported he signed a new contract but the agency that looks after him has him down as 2013
Either way strange they have let his contract run down
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

His QPR contract runs til June 30th 2013 and his United contract runs til June 30th 2014.

reports saying Porto have brought out the remaining 35% of Rodriguezs' third party ownership paving the way for a summer sale. (Same happened to Moutinho on Friday). Ed?

Dan {Ed002's Note - The reports are correct.}

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I think we will be very interested in him.

I still think we are in for him along with juventus.

Supasub

I know it would be only pure speculation but what sort of money would they be looking for? love to sign him! quick question. watching the match yesterday and one of the commentators said Nanis contract is up in the summer, this is not correct is it?

Jamal

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 is the fact that Porto now own the player outright affect the transfer fee? I. e. are they likely to now ask for a higher fee?

TK-Red {Ed002's Note - Firstly, they don't own the player outright - but they own around 90% now. The fee they want to terminate his contract for a sale has always reflected the payments due to the third party owners. So the fee is fixed and remains unchanged.}

Agree0 Disagree0

They reportedly brought the 35% for around 9m euros which would value him at about 25m euros. Therefore for them to maker a profit I am guessing they will want at least 30m euros or 25m pounds when selling. Not sure if we will pay that.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Aah ok. I was under the impression they had bought all rights to the player. Thanks Ed.

TK-Red {Ed002's Note - Near all - and even if they had it would not change the price as it is a termination clause built in to a contract.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyway I say we go for Fischer or Deulofeu instead. Even bigger talents for a smaller price.
