Any truth in United agreeing a deal with Ajax for Justin Kluivert Ed (s)?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any agreement but there is an interest.}

Looks like a very talented player who can shoot from distance. Would be great to tie him up and loan him back for a season or two.

I'd welcome This, but would keep him around. Get used to playing with the like of angel and tahiti.

Not good news for Rashford if this is true.

Singh - I think the manager doesn't trust Rashford, and I suspect he will be sold (I don't think he trusts Martial either unfortunately) . I appreciate he has featured a lot, but that is more to do with the limited options Jose has had opposed to Rashford warranting it on account of his overall performance levels imo.

I think Rashford is doing his best, but that little magic you need to play at the very top (consistently, before anybody starts) isn't in his locker. He'll have a good career I'm sure, but we will find him slipping down the pecking order and he'll be plying his trade at a mid-table club before too long. Unfortunately the progress has been somewhat limited since he flew onto the scene - some are late developers and a lot are early bloomers ( I'm thinking Jack Rodwell or Joe Cole - rather than a Michael Owen or Wayne Rooney) .

It's funny because a lot of us thought he would learn from Zlatan and it would bolster his game - he was meant to be much better by now in my mind but he has stalled for me since the arrival of Zlatan and especially Lukaku, not improved to anywhere near the level necessary. He may get another boost, but I don't see it now - seems to lack that spark to be the very best. Cheque book will be opened again in the Summer, not sure how he competes then.

I agree with you, Beast. I don't think Rashford has really taken his chances very well. He still seems to make the wrong decisions more often than not. I'm not slating him, it's just an honest opinion about the guy. I know he's just 20 and he's young and probably still a kid, but that still doesn't excuse him from not improving as a player.

I don't know the kind of influence Zlatan and Lukaku have (had) on him, but I'm sure none of them were telling him to regress and not try and motivate the kid.

Short sighted views on Rashford here.

Angelred,

If you think I'm being short-sighted when it comes to Rashford, then let me clarify, that I'm not. I'm not saying this 'coz I've only seen 2 or 3 matches and seen him not perform, and hence I've made up my mind. It's my observation over the course of the season and not just in the Premier League, I have watched him play in the League Cup and even FA Cup.

I think his decision making is way off, sometimes he's way too selfish. I'm in no way saying that he's a bad player, but I feel these basic things need to be addressed so that his game can develop. And there is probably nothing wrong with the kind of people he's playing with, I don't think there is any other team in the League that will be able to help him mature as a player.

Also, 12daysofhermida, I don't know. Maybe I'll give him a season or two more and if he still fails to deliver, then maybe, it might be the time to sell.

Would not like us to sell rashford think he is just going through a tough patch in his career which most youngsters go through. Mbappe isn’t tearing it up at PSG atm and martial had his struggles last year. When Zlatan goes I would move rashford centrally and would rotate him more with Lukaku than he has done so this season. We overplayed Lukaku during November and December so perhaps that shows Jose doesn’t fully trust rashford. I wouldn’t be opposed sending him loan to a lower premier league club next season so he can get a consistent run of games as a striker. He will come back together a much better player with more composure. If rashford was playing for another team we would be having to pay £50-70m because he’s English. I don’t think sterling is more talented but he’s played regularly and peps tactics have helped him develop. I wouldn’t give up on rashford just yet as I think we would regret it.

It's difficult being a bit part player. If Rashford started every game as centre forward instead of Lukaku, I believe he'd have a higher goals tally than Lukaku right now.

I don't believe he'll be sold at all. Just being careful with him. He'll go far and get his chances.

Rashford has everything in a player. At 20 he can play anywhere along the front of attack. He is big, strong, fast, skillful, can score free kicks, long shot screamers. Great heading ability. Most of all he's fearless. Decision making comes with age and experience. Nani never managed to figure it out. Rashford is just 20. Henry at 20 was nothing special. Drogba nothing special. Rashford is already doing great and he's got many years to improve. No chance MU would get rid of him even if Jose wanted that. He'd be overruled. Martial would go before Rashford.

Syd, well said. The kid is 20 and people are discussing selling him, I despair.

05 Feb 2018 13:05:04
Rashford will most likely be off in the summer. Sell or loan is the manager's wish.

Park, i understand your sentiment but noway would you pay 50m for Rashford if he were playing for any other club. Calvert-Lewin, Iwobi, Richarlison, Solanke. Rashford is just one amongst these and i am sure you won't be paying anything to get any of them. Rashford's Manchester birth certificate is the only thing keeping him at the club right now.

Syd, Rashford hasn't been bit part at all. He has the most number of appearances for the club. He didn't uproot any trees when he started in the cups this season. And he has been woeful for 2 years straight.

People will again comment on my dislike for the player, but its not dislike. I like Manchester United and i don't care from where the player is as long as he does the job, which Rashford isn't doing.

Disagree Shan I would have rashford over all of those youngsters you have mentioned. Pep would jump at the chance to sign rashford if he had the opportunity. He has the pace, work rate and power to be a success player for us. Where he lacks is in his decision making and composure in 1v1s. That is partly down to age but also consistent run of games. He hasn’t started a premier league game for god knows how long and I agree he has warranted it. But get him a loan where he plays week in week out and he will get 15 goals imo. If we sell him who do we buy? Richarlison? The guy has dropped off massively the last 3 months. Youngsters are inconsistent and they are always going to be up and down. You can’t just sell someone when they are playing badly. If we had done that martial would have been off in the summer. At least at united a youngster knows he has a chance of breaking into the first team squad. Look at city and the rubbish Guardiola dishes up by naming 6 subs. Yes they may play better football and will win the league but if I was a youth player I know where I would rather play and get a chance. Having a youth player in our squad is something we should be proud of and ingrained in the tradition of the club. Let’s back rashford as I am sure he will come good.

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Feb 2018 13:22:12
Shan,

I would be willing to bet you any amount of money that your first line is not true, despite you saying it like it is fact.

AJH, madness isn't it, a few bad games and we want to sell the best youngster to come through our academy in almost a generation.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Feb 2018 14:17:14
GDS, i will take that bet. And its not a few games, 2 and a half seasons. That is more than just a few games. Where do you play him in this team? Ahead of Lukaku? Sanchez? Lingard? Mata? even Martial? Running around like a headless chicken isn't football.

Agree0 Disagree8

05 Feb 2018 14:25:33
And yet AJH, you would have Pep over Jose every day of the week. Double standards is it?

And just to clarify, i am not saying sell him. Loan him out and see if he really has the hunger and the passion and commitment to come back a better player. Lingard is his best mate so he should learn something from him.

I make a very simple point - Rashford isn't performing at all so just treat him as he should be rather than dishing out excuses of his age and his hometown etc etc etc.

Trust me i was as happy as any other United fan when Rashford hit those goals on debut against Arsenal. I was elated to see a newbee turn up at Old Trafford and deliver. But i have been disappointed for 2 years and i refuse to take it anymore. You ask yourself this - Rashford has two teams, Manchester United and England. Is he good enough to replace the striker from any of those teams right now?

And just FYI, Pep won't touch Rashford, he has Gabriel Jesus who is consistent in front of goal. Someone who has the pedigree to keep out Aguero must have something special. Rashford can't even keep out Martial.

Agree1 Disagree6

05 Feb 2018 15:32:49
Shan,

He’s just a kid, McTominay is just coming through now, Rashford is almost a year younger, he will still be 20 at the beginning of next season and already has 68 league appearances for United. He started like a house on fire so has proved what he can do, your hatred of the lad is there for all to see but it is incredibly blinkered and you have to be more patient.

When Henry moved to Arsenal he had scored 23 goals in 121 games and he was 2 years older than Rashford. The best part of this is the comparison to Calvert-Lewin, just wow.

Agree9 Disagree0

05 Feb 2018 16:37:39
I don't hate the player GDS. I hate under performers. 20 or 30 or 100 is irrelevant to me. As long as the player is performing he has my 100% backing. But when there are excuses being thrown about, player has lost the respect. You compare Rashford to Henry, isn't that a bigger woooooowwww?

05 Feb 2018 16:40:33
Shan

Just shows you didn’t read my post properly, I said I wouldn’t swap Jose for any of them but that didn’t mean they weren’t great Managers.

Your disdain for Rashford is legendary, and your willingness to discard a 20 year old who, despite your view, is just having a rough patch is shameful. There’s no point debating it with you as your mind is closed.

05 Feb 2018 16:46:13
But is Rashford underperforming though. He's scored goals this season. Its clear you don't like him for some reason and your groping for things to justify your dislike.

Shan you lost me when you said even martial 😂😂 he's been one of our best players so you rate Mata a better player then martial 😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2018 17:26:04
Ridiculous Shan to have a go at rashford for inconsistency. If this is your view on an underperforming and young player then i would have hated to see how you would have reacted during ronaldo's early years. To measure an underperforming player and not to take in account age and experience is ridiculous. all young players go through ups and downs in the early years but it is clear to see he has talent. Its that sort of short termism that has ruined modern day football. Have patience he will come good.

05 Feb 2018 18:00:35
I would just like to say that just because somebody doesn't rate a player or want to see him in the team doesn't mean that he hates the player. That is a totally stupid thing to say.
I was accused of the same myself with Rooney. I don't hate the guy at all I just thought he didn't warrant a place in our squad and wanted him to be sold.
I don't hate martial but i don't see what many of you here see in him. only time will tell
Hatred is a really strong word and its totally ignorant to accuse somebody of hatred when it's not true. Particularly after lecturing posters on being biased against other coaches and players.

Well said Ken.

I don't hate Rashford, I just don't think he is up to snuff for a club like Utd that intends to win things regularly. I get the youth defence league will back him to the hilt for good reasons, but I can't help think that the kick on should be further from when he started with the first team. He has been treading water for me. We have all seen the kid at 16 that was amazing in the school yard but 5 years later they are playing in the pub leagues.

Comparing him to greats like Henry is premature to say the least and maybe so is my comparing him to Joe Cole. But I'd wager with anybody that in 10 years time the career of Rashford would be a lot closer to a Joe Cole than it would an Henry - that isn't a bad thing, but it isn't good enough for Man Utd.

How many games has Zlatan had this season? So, that hardly means much with rotation with Lukaku for his career and there are a great deal many strikers and wingers out there, especially if you have £100m+ to spend on attackers each summer. I don't even rate Lukaku as good enough for a team intending to win the league and CL to be honest, but I have very high standards.

Well said Ken and i am surprised to say it but i agree with the beast.

Guys i don't hate Rashford. I would be very happy to see him succeed. But as Beast said, i am just not sure if that would be in Manchester.

I understand the sentiment of all of you with his age and him being local. But i am a modern day man and i live in the present. Its a cut throat world and this business is almost the spear. We want to compete with the best out there and yet we are willing to compromise with mediocre. Rashford MAY turn out to be great but is he good enough now? Can you compete with Real, PSG, Juve, Barca, Bayern, City, Chelsea with the quality of a Rashford? I just don't see it. Besides, how many of these top teams really have the patience to live in hope of developing players and still be at the top. You guys had the patience with moyes or lvg? No. More than half on here still don't have the patience to live with Jose but i guarantee you would kill to have jose as the manager if he were Mancunian.

I do not hate Rashford.

Jose clearly rates him . You might find that surprising many won't.

05 Feb 2018 20:17:44
I just don't agree. Everything I've seen of Rashford points to me how he can be a very very good player. How good, I don't know but he seems to have all the hallmarks.

People judging him here on a bit of a lull in his play. He hasn't had the best of times and this happens, especially in their earlier days, he is 20 for God's sake 😂 This is the exact same stuff people said of lingard and much worse. And look how that seems to be turning out. And I believe rash has more about him than lingard did at 20.

All I say Is, a manager if Jose's calibre really seems to rate him and plays him an awful lot. For all of the opinions on here only 1 really matters and that's all that matters to me.

Agree4 Disagree0

05 Feb 2018 21:33:35
I rate rashford myself. He is young and learning Kane was not in the sours team at his age. He has time on his side and he is still very early in his development. No way should he be sold nor will he be.
Martial is in the same boat. Slightly further in his development. Neither are consistent yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2018 22:13:20
Consistency comes with age and experience Ken. I know of no 20 year old that is week in week out consistent. None of us are footballing experts, all of our opinions differ but the lack of respect and knowledge that is shown towards rash on this site is of pure ignorance.

I'm against the sale of Rashford but think a loan could be the right move. It's hard to be consistent when you are in and out of the team. He needs game time as a striker week in week out and he won't get it at United.

If Rashford had a run of games he'd be deadly. Rojo, Martial, Jones, Smalling, Shaw have all shown how important stability is being picked to start game after game. Like I said I think if Rashford had started every game this season, he'd be just behind Salah and Kane in goals.

It's a world cup year and club will be worried about burn out.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Feb 2018 09:37:27
Guys,

I cannot reply to what every single poster has said and I respect what each one of you has said.

So here's the thing, what I said about Rashford does not mean that I want him sold, of course, I want him to be a success at United and play for us for many many years, but on the current form that he is in and the way I see him play week in and week out, I just don't think he's learning the right things. I'm all for giving the kid every chance that he rightfully deserves, but I'm thoughtful of the fact that if he doesn't learn or change, then the club should be smart about it and not emotional.
