Watching the game for the second time, was it worth Modric playing? He didn't do much. Rightly or wrongly (when taking price into account etc) I'd probably take Sandro (dirty sh!t he might be) over Modric. Surely Sandro would only be 25% of the price and 3(?) years younger.
Just a question for everyone, following Jones' play today and the last few games, does everyone think its fairly obvious that Jones is a midfielder and not a defender?
Believable18
Unbelievable12
No way. Modric is a far better player than Sandro. He didn't have his best game yesterday as he was stuck on the left where he is wasted. In my opinion Modric is the player we need in the summer as he is the creative spark in midfield that we lack at the moment.

Your judging Modric off one game..have a look at his performances from the beginning of the season up until this game and you will change your opinion. Plus he was played out of position on the left, i couldn't believe Redknapp did that. Surely if you were a Spurs fan you would be asking the question of why Modric was on the left and Livermore or Sandro were in the middle?
Man U picked up in the second half and at last we are seeing some form from Young which is encouraging. Nani needs a kick up the arse...he seems to be going backwards! He is so unpredictable its untrue. Overall pleased with the result but the first half performance was really bad.

Its hard to tell where Jones's best position is now. I prefer Smalling at fullback
Agree0
Disagree0
I doubt you'd be saying that if you watched/knew more anout Modric. He had a bad game against us which did raise my eyebrow, he's usually very consistent! I wondered if he maybe felt added pressure because of something that could be happening in the summer? Sandro could and probably will be a quality player if he carrys on like he is. But Modric for me hands down.
Ozwald

Jones is a Midfielder...he doesn't look comfortable at full back. I agree Smalling looks better than Jones in that position.
Agree0
Disagree0
Makes me laugh...Modric was the best thing since sliced bread last week. How fickle can football fans be at times!
Simmo
Agree0
Disagree0
LOL Sandro would be better than Modric, is that a joke?
How can you judge a player on one match where he took one for the team and played out of position.
Also, if you feel Jones struggled so much, wasn't he marking Modric as he was on the left, I am pretty sure if Jones stopped Modric playing then he did a pretty decent job. From watching the game it was clear he struggled first half but looked extremely strong in the second half.
I would suggest its 'fairly obvious' Fergie knows more than you and if he thinks Jones is a defender, I would make a suggestion its 'fairly obvious' he probably is one.

They are 2 different types of player...
I would love to see Sandro sat in behind Cleverly & Anderson..... think this would be an excellent centre 3......
But Modric is class and he would take our mid to another level if he was in there for a season.....
Oxred....
Agree0

Sorry you made laugh, Sandro/Anderson/Cleverly an excellent midfield. Only 1 with a bit of a future is Cleverly, you really think that midfield could contain Barcelona/ real Madrid?

Whatever way you look at it Modric price tagwill put him out of our reach anywya wont it?

Modric hasn't played well the last 4 or 5 games.hes definitely not what we need in the summer.mediocre in my opinion, always goes missing in the big games, not effective enough im afraid very inconsistent.doesnt score goals,he's good but not world class in my eyes.one the biggest overrated players in the premiership
Agree0
Disagree0
Modric wouldn't outplay barca or real Madrid either for that matter!
Agree0
Disagree0
I think modric and Sandra are mediocre! Not good enough IMO.i would be sick if utd got any of the two!
Agree0
Disagree0
Modric is just average....please tell me you are having a laugh?? Modric is a quality player, just ask Fergie. I'd much rather take Modric over these players that are being spouted about from the likes of Benfica etc.
Simmo
Agree0

Even funnier......Modric is average yet some people on this rumour site would be pleased if we were to sign Tom Huddlestone. Have a word with yourself and give your head a wobble!
Simmo
Agree0
Disagree0
Tom huddlestone is average and modric isn't much better.he is extremely inconsistent, doesn't score goals.apart from one or two good passes he's average.and even at that he hasn't got many assists either!Simmo,Modric wouldn't get his game for barca, real Madrid, city, chelsea or Bayern Munich for that matter.players like silva, ozil, xavi, iniesta are all a class above
Him.think about that.he ain't world class.he doesn't put enough into games.
Agree0
Disagree0
Ok first of all your saying that Modric isn't much better than Huddlestone? You really havent got a clue. Secondly you mention Real Madrid and Barca....why? We are not even in the same class as them they are well ahead! Thirdly you say Modric wouldn't get into the Chelsea team...that's funny because they were prepared to spend 40 million on the guy at the start of the season. Have a think before you write your silly comments my friend!

Having seen a little of Varane over the past few weeks, the Real Madrid young centre half, it's a real shame he didn't choose Utd - looks like a fantastic prospect!
Hobbes
Believable16

Yes he looks quite the prospect , would of loved to see a cb pairing of himself and smalling and with jones in the defensive role infront of them
Agree0

He is similar to Ferdinand and Smalling so wouldn't play alongside either of them. He would play alongside Jones, Vidic or Evans. You need one ball player and one scrapper.

There is still a long way to go in this season's title race but it is looking more likely that it will come down to the City game at the end of April. With that in mind what would you all prefer? Going into that game needing to win or going into it with a draw being good enough? I only ask as going into a game knowing a draw will be enough can be very dangerous IMO.

After the game against them at Old Trafford earlier in the season i won't settle for anything less than a win against them regardless of what it means in the title race. It's not just about three points or the title but about pride.

I would much rather win the Premiership Title and get beat from City at the Etihad Stadium!
Yes pride is important but a shiny trophy to parade around the pitch at Sunderland at the end of the season is more important, plus it put's all the city fans in there place!
Simmo

Understand your point- which is why the victory at Wembley was so important- but we have beaten them twice this season to their one win.
So far it is 2-1 to us - would much rather it be 2-2 and we win the title.
But I do think we are going to have to win that game to secure the title.
Mike

Obviously I want to win the league and it looks like we'll need to get some kind of result against city but I don't care whether a draw is enough to win the league after the result earlier in the season we need a win to not only get the points but also for our pride and the physcological advantage going into next season. Us winning the league and beating city on their patch when it matters could be devastating to their team.

I think we need a player in the middle who can break down play and be a kind of scott parker role in front of the back 4 these are my opinions
Javi martinez - can play anywhere along the back 4 or in central midfield looks class
Javi Garcia - class strong holding midfielder good in the air from set pieces
Tom Huddlestone - Premiership proven still young and english cheaper option but i believe it maybe the best option for the price
Granit Xhaka - Good prospect but a risk may be worth a punt for the price
does anyone think scott parker was worth a punt in the summer when he went to spurs.

Why name huddlestone and not Sandro...
think the price difference would not be much and Sandro is a better all round player

Xhaka all day for me, with the price and being so young, I believe we could develop him into a top quality midfielder with the likes of Giggs and Scholes teaching him.

I would be gutted if our summer signing was Tom Huddlestone....i mean is he really good enough for Man United? Is he an average premiership midfielder at best. We should be looking/aiming for players that are alot better than him.

Id love to see them all in United shirts but my Favourite would be Huddlestone for more then his passing, defending, Ball Retention and Use, Epic Shot (which United wouyld really benefit from), His willingness to remain In his position (Just in front of the back four). United would really benefit from each of these signings but i would love to see Huddlestone here.

Hi ed007 mate Whats your thought on huddlestone.... maybe not utd quality yet but maybe the rock in the middle? {Ed007's Note - I would take him before some of the names I see on here mate. But he is English which means it would probably be a crazy fee, but at the right price why not?}
Agree0

I'd take him if we could get him for 10 mill or less but I'd prefer the young lad from Wigan, whats his name again Ed 007, :-) go on tell us 1 more time....
HERBIE {Ed007's Note - Do you really want to go there Herbie? AGAIN?? lol}
Agree0

Not for me guys / girls.
He is a decent passer of the ball, but he doesn't cover enough ground. As he is not very quick he doesn't close down quick enough and make it hard for the opposition to make a pass. I reckon we gotta aim higher. Having said that, I'd take him if the option is him or no-one as it has been in the middle of the park for what seems like years and years!!

Good win today for us... and the people saying young hasnt been united class since the start how can you say that and no it isnt motd fever i said a while ago when we signed him and after that, that he is a good crosser and finisher he hasnt played at a big club his whole career and he has always done well all i have againat him is that he doesnt use his pace enough i thinkhe should start doing what valencia does and knock it past players and sprint instead of skill then just ping it into the box.
oh and a quick word on who i believe would be good to bring in
gylffi siggurdsson (spelling) i said when he was at reading he would be class awesome dead ball specialist tall just reminds me of a young unlazy berbatov with creativity and cheap aswell
and im probably going to get criticised but i believe if we put nani in the shop window and someone comes in maybe 25million i think we should use that to get xhaka and sahin.
Believable6
Unbelievable5
Sigardsson - yes please
Agree0

Still don't like Young - there are too many games where he neither scores a goal or even gets the ball apst the first defender. Yes he has put a couple of decent crosses in recently. The reason he doesn't play like Valencia is that he gets outmuscled by every defender with a bit of pace.

As a N.I. man and follower, I have been one of Evans biggest critics in my Utd mode but have to give credit where it's due and say he's prob been our best defender of late - perhaps the penny's finally dropped and he accepts the privilege and responsibility that comes with wearing the badge - well done lad and long may it continue for club and country

Manchester United have taken striker Nathan Ricketts-Hopkinson on trial.
The teen was with Manchester City, but is now training with United.
The striker featured in United U18's 1-0 defeat to Barnsley yesterday. United swooped for former Manchester City defender Frederic Veseli in January.
Most interesting, another from City youth set up. No idea if he is good enough but Citys project is all about buying the biggest names and the youth will become disheartened if they dont see any prospect of getting a game

Say what you will about Young. But there are 3 things he does excellently.
1. Crossing
2. Scoring goals
3. Set pieces
Now Nani will come back soon, and everyone will shut up about them and move on to the next one. On a side note, why do we keep insisting on putting Giggs into the middle? He gave away the goal today, and can't help but give the ball away!

Has anyone noticed how some players, Carrick especially, keep chipping the ball instead of passing it along the ground. Its lost us the ball at least once today although it happens most when we aren't playing well, ie. it happened loads in the CL.
