Oh, I have also been told that Scholes' long term replacement will be signed before June 1st. Ed, why do United sign their player our of the transfer window period now? Surely it's not concrete until they sign on June 1st?

Sydney! {Ed001's Note - the deal can be done completely years in advance if you want, it is only registrations that can't be transferred until the window is open.}

I don't think pastore will come to united, especially for that price, i don't think SAF is going to sign any players over the 15m mark in the summer, last summer he said he bid for a player, but that player then moved to a big club and SAF quoted saying " he never wanted to come to england anyway", i think we all know it was David villa he was talking about, and to be honest i don't think we did bid for him, i don't think we have that much money to spend on one player, if pastore moves to juventus or somewhere else that isn't man utd, then i bet SAF comes out and say he tried to sign him when really he is just saying that to keep the fans happy and pretend we have alot of money to spend when actually we have peanuts.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I think you'll find it was Mesut Ozil. .

Ed, my friend who is an avid follower of Italian football has told me that all pundits in Italy believe the Pastore story to be true and think the deal could be finalized in the next few days. They believe the price to be around the 35-40m euro mark. They think SAF plans to switch to a 4-2-3-1 system like the one we used in 2007 and Pastore to be given a Ronaldo-like free role behind Rooney. Do any of your sources have anything to corroborate this? {Ed001's Note - I haven't heard anything up to date regarding it, I will check with the other editors and see if any of them have anything to share.}

"{Ed001's Note - I have not seen a lot of him, purely because what I have seen fails to convince me he will ever play in England. I certainly couldn't imagine him in a 2 man midfield, it would be so unbalanced and weak. I would expect the talks with his agent are likely to be one of three things: old stories revived, just courtesy meetings to keep United informed over his situation or, most likely, talks over another player the agent represents. Though, without checking to see who his agent has on the books, I can't be sure about that one. You have to remember that an agent will spend most of his time meeting clubs and sponsors, so most of those stories are just a journo putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 875. Unfortunately it also makes it easy for them to get away with making things up, how can you know exactly who the meetings are about unless you happen to be there?}"

That is the exact reason why i haven't watched much of him too. He did not look a PL player to me.

You know how i feel about journalists and lazy journalism and 2+2=875 is going on a bit too much. SAF has a history of baffling buys. I remember thinking about Veron and saying, this guy does not look a PL player at all.

If the meetings are true there could be some truth though, secrecy and backroom dealing with agents by United in dealings especially under SAF is an open secret.

But 40mil looks a bit over the top doesn't it? IS it Euros or Pounds they are talking about? Would shut a lot of people up if we did spend that kind of money on him though.

Berbatov in midfield could have a similar effect ed?

REDFAITH {Ed002's Note - A different Ed. There is certainly interest in Pastore from Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus but €40M is steep for a 21 year old midfield player. As I said earlier, my understanding was that Juventus would offer €20m plus several players in exchange, loan or in part-ownership as part of the deal. I am not sure Berbatov would be equally effective in midfield.}

ED is this PASTORE rumour true? {Ed001's Note - I don't believe there to be any truth in it, other than an old story revived.}

Good morning Guys

I love reading about who might join the club in the summer.I agree with alot of people who say they don't see alot of signings coming in.I would love to see a couple of world class signings but I'm a bit sceptical whether the funds are actually there or not.
So I'm going to do my mystic Meg impression and suggest that the only new personnel next season is going to be

Stekelenberg or Neur
Henderson or Rodwell or Chamberlain.

I hope the Glazers prove me wrong but I can't see it.

Bazza.

According to reports in Argentina, Palermo's Javier Pastore is on the verge of joining Manchester United.

Local media in Cordoba, where the Argentine international was born, are suggesting that Pastore's agent Marcelo Simonen is currently finalising a deal for his client to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils would be willing to pay 40 million for the 21-year-old, according to Radio Event. Rumours previously suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson would make his move for the highly rated Rosanero star, despite officials of the Sicilian club making it clear that Pastore was a key member of the squad.

I think this might be something solid for once. .It is known fact that there will be signings in the summer and SAF is know to complete deals in utmost secrecy!
Pastore could be a instant hit at united. . maybe macheda could be included in the deal?

United, however, will have a battle on their hands from Barcelona, who travelled to Italy to discuss a verbal agreement with Palermo to unite Pastore with fellow countryman Lionel Messi. But no signed agreement was made by the Blaugrana officials, leaving Manchester United free to pursue their target.

Pastore joined Palermo in 2009 and his performances were rewarded with a place in the Argentina squad in the 2010 World Cup.

Is this Pastore rumour, if it is then man, United would be very difficult 2 beat. Better than Goetze hes already world class.
We need a World class keeper and then we are done

thoughts ed?

{Ed002's Note - There has certainly been interest in Pastore from Manchester United and Chelsea but Juventus has emerged as a serious contender for the player. It seemed likely that Juventus would offer several players either in exchange, on loan or in part-ownership as part of the deal. I was told that an offer of €20m in cash plus Sebastian Giovinco, Raffaelle Palladino and Amauri would probably prove to be successful. Palermo do not need to sell. They have an elderly wealthy owner who craves success. We will have to wait and see.}
