Nani signs new 5 year contract keeping him at MU until 2018.

Nani: "Playing for MU has been a fantastic experience. I'm very happy that the new manager has shown this faith in me."

Moyes: "I'm really pleased. Nani has great ability and experience."

If he gets back to his 2010 form then I hate to use the phrase that I hate others using but, he really will be like a great new signing in a position that we are lacking in.

Agree2 Disagree1

There isn't a huge difference between Nani and Di Maria. So I would rather we kept Nani then let him go for a ridiculous £8.5m. In 2011 he carried us for two thirds of a season and people were calling us a one man team. let's hope he can find that form again under a new manager. I still expect him to be frustrating at times, but he would be feeling much better not knowing the club are trying to flog him.

Agree6 Disagree3

Nani has never carried us

Agree4 Disagree4

Not sure how true this is, but according to Duncan Castles, Arsenal, Juventus, PSG, Monaco, Spurs, Chelsea & City all made Nani enquiries. I guess at around £10m he would have been a bargain. I sure hope he can find his 2011 form. I guess we will see soon enough.

Agree1 Disagree3

Awesome. Rewarding the most inconsistent, infuriating winger in the EPL with a new deal because nobody wanted to pay more than £10m for him (says it all). He's had one good season and has done pretty much nothing otherwise. Anderson is next. How many chances do we need to give players?! You're elated are you Nani? Then why aren't you fulfilling your potential? You've had years mate. Same cast of characters set to run the rig for the next 2 seasons, getting drastically worse.

Agree3 Disagree4

Maybe the new contract instead of a pay when you play deal, has a pay when you clear the first man clause lol

Agree3 Disagree2

Yeah he clearly has more natural talent than any of our other wingers. I think his low confidence was the reason for his inconsistency, the thought of being dropped as soon as he had one bad game was obviously not something you'd want hanging over your head. Here's to hoping.

Agree4 Disagree0

Oz, SAF has been tying to sell Nani for the past three summers. Imagine how that would make you feel? How would you play? Moyes likes him and according to DC Moyes told the board to give him a new deal back in early July. That's why we never followed up our interest in Di Maria I guess?

Hopefully this is a new lease of life for Rooney and Nani and we can get the best out of them. Add Kagawa to the mix, Rafael, Zaha & Fellaini. We need to make the best of what we have.

Agree4 Disagree2

Maybe the new contract instead of a pay when you play deal, has a pay when you clear the first man clause lol

I doubt he would ever get paid if he signed a deal like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani's ability has never been in question. He certainly has the flair and is arguably our most skillful player. However, it has always been his application.
Nani needs to work hard on the pitch when he gets his chance as no team can afford luxury players anymore.
We need to start pressing teams higher up the pitch and Nani needs to play his part in that. If he does this and shows true desire the fans will back him, his confidence will improve and his attacking talent may well shine through again.
I certainly hope they do, and yes it is a horrible overuse of a phrase, but he would be like a new signing.

Agree1 Disagree0

Lets see what everyone thinks when nani is keeping kagawa out of the side. 10m would have let him go for 10p

Agree1 Disagree3

As I feared, Moyes has no clue what so ever how to run a BIG club. Does he think giving Nani a contract extension, that he his going to please the fans .NO WAY. Nani has been crap the last few seasons, and now he, s got his extension he will be even worse. Come on Moyes man up and involve Kagawa and Zaha. Forget 40 yr old Giggs and not so Cleverley. Chin up boys it can only get worse from here

Agree3 Disagree4

Its like signing a new player :(

Agree0 Disagree1

Sydney are you mad? if SAF couldn't get anything out of Nani, what do you think Moyes is going to get? Not to mention how many teams really wanted to buy him from us?

Bottles selling Rooney, gives Nani who can't play two good games back to back a new contract, starts Giggs.
What really must be going through Kagawas and Chicos head I could only wonder!

It's been a comedy and an embarrassment the past 2 months as a United fan.
I'm just waiting for him to temp P. Neville back into playing

Agree2 Disagree3

Massive difference between Nani and Di Maria: Nani is woeful. Been here too long and had too many chances. He is NOT United class. Then again . he doesn't cost a transfer fee so f@ck it he's the greatest player who ever lived.

We have not signed the much needed creative midfielder we all crave for but do give another 100k pw for FIVE YEARS to someone who has had, at best, ten good games for us in the previous 5 years.

I'm beginning to think a la KLOOT that Moyes was brought in for his shoestring budget skills.

I like all of us will give Moyes time. But, in my opinion this is now his 3rd grave error. The first being getting rid of Rene Meulensten.

Agree2 Disagree2

We always talk about how other clubs are not patient with their managers. Some of our fans are already out with their judgement on Moyes. SAF trusted him to do a job. So should you, all of you.

I am glad he is doing what he feels is right. He's not living under SAF's shadows. Let him run the team the way he sees fit. I would be more worried if he had just tried to finish what SAF started and sold Nani for whatever he was offered. I think he did a great job with Everton and I fully expect him to do a good job for us.

Agree1 Disagree1

Who knows he could have a good season and world cup, then be offloaded next summer for a lot more than the measly 10 mil he was worth before he signed the new contract

Agree0 Disagree0

Or we are stuck with the rat for eternity. "He works hard in training", who doesn't during pre-season if that's your job. It's when the season starts and he plays rubbish, then can't be bothered with training because he doesn't merit a place in the first team - that's when we will see the same old Nani - I give it until the October Intl break. Ridiculous reward for the second least deserving player in our team (Rooney is the most).

Agree0 Disagree1

Nani and Dimaria are miles apart Sydney.

Hence one is valued at 25 to 30 by other clubs and one at 10 mate. You do post some weird stuff. Di Maria can pass and cross the ball and Nani at best is very average in that department.

We will get the occasional 25 meter screamer from nani but that depends on whether you are willing to give him a lot of starts and get frustrated to hell with all the the stuff that he does wrong.

I think this extension is about leverage in moving him on next year if he does not improve and getting a bit more money for him, but then again on current form the offers are not going to be drastically different.

Agree0 Disagree0

This has to be good news no matter whether you like Nani or not. His value has rocketed again with this new contract so if we do sell him next summer we could get a higher price. I personally think he's the best winger (along with Hazard) in the PL, he needs to show some consistency though and he needs to get his head down and work for the team. If he does that and finds some form he could be a big part in us retaining the league.

Agree2 Disagree0

Spurs have just signed Lamela and he is very good and way better than Nani. Ozil can also play on either wing and he needs no introduction.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, Nani was valued at £8.5m because he was in his final year of contract. Just one year ago MU accepted €27m (£23m/£24m) for Nani from Zenit.

Di Maria is a better player no doubt, but there isn't much between Nani at his best and Di Maria at his best. Certainly wouldn't have been worth selling Nani for ££8.5m and buying Di Maria for £25m-£30m. By the time you give Nani his loyalty bonus we would be left with £7m. So he is better than Nani, but is he that much better that we will spend up to an extra £23m on bringing him here? Personally I would pay the extra and buy Draxler or perhaps Reus.

Agree1 Disagree0

Really gets to me when people say that 1) Nani is only lacking in confidence. This is tripe, he used to have to much confidence, he is lacking decision making and end product. And 2) That he carried us in 2010, yes Rooney was having a shocker but up until February so was Nani, he played well against arsenal, Bolton then inter and all of a sudden wins player if the year. I would have been happy to see him go anytime in the last 5 years. He hasn't improved by ant noticeable degree in any area of his game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney and Nani are the most gifted players at United. Nani can be infuriating at times and Rooney is being led up the garden path by ugly Stretford. However, they have plenty to offer. Against Chelsea Rooney was the only guy playing who looked like he wanted to win. Nani is clearly a better player than Young, whose rubbish and Mr one foot Valencia, or as he is often known Mr One Dimension. When you add Kagawa, and Zaha things look brighter. Plus Fellaini who is so much better than our other central midfield choices bar Carrick. We also have Januji (spelling), who might just break through this season, though he may be as much as 2 or 3 seasons away from a regular first team place. I really would have liked a creative midfielder to add to Fellaini's steel, but I guess that means waiting for the winter window. So it's time to get behind the team, if you don't agree follow another Team, or take up watching another sport. We are United and for me the worst United team is worth 100 times more than any other team no matter how good they are. Go on you reds!
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

"arguably our most skillful player." who can't even take a corner

Agree0 Disagree0

Mik,

It's not about anybody here not supporting the team, I'm pretty sure unlike Arsenal fans we want our team to win every game and anybody wearing the shirt to perform well. The point is that Nani very rarely plays well and there are far better players at the club or who were available to buy that he is taking the place of. I support Utd, but I don't rate Nani, I don't rate Young either but he hasn't been handed a 5 year contract for doing nothing!

A 3 year deal to get the player sold next year is commercial sense, a 5 year deal reeks of desperation and stunts the prospects of Zaha and other youngsters, plus means we won't sign a new winger anytime soon!

Agree0 Disagree2

Syd, Nani is at least as good as Di Maria when they're both on form. Do you remember 2010 or is that too long ago for you? He was incredible not only with his assists, but with some outrageous goals as well which Di Maria doesn't have in his game.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think we should judge Nani on his next ten games before judging him on past merits or sins he has been amazing and he has been poor let's see how he fairs under Moyes he could come good there is not many wingers in world football with his ability and if he can get it together week in week out then we have a world class player, if he was to leave for next to nothing and went on to do great things we would all be slagging Moyes for not trying to get the best out of him before he sold him, so give the New Boss the respect he deserves and hope his choices are of sound judgment as i'm shore they are ps at his best he is much better than Di Maria

Agree1 Disagree0

There are many wingers in world football with his ability, and I guarantee after this 10 game period that you are allowing him, he will still be disappointing you

Agree1 Disagree1

There are not many wingers in world football with his ability when he is at his best and no one can seriously say other wise he can smash the ball from 30 yards both feet he has loads of tricks and can skin opponents at pace his problem has never been ability it has always been his head and if Moyes thinks he can make him tick then maybe he can otherwise we will have him for years to come disappointing us with his lack of consistency and conviction but I would like to believe he will turn it round under Moyes and be the player we all hope he can

Agree1 Disagree0

Dont get me wrong, I believe that on his day he is one of the best wingers around but that day is all too rare for my liking however as a Manchester United player I will support him come what may, i'm just not getting my hopes up. If Moyes can motivate him to perform consistently then that would be brilliant, I just take umbrage with the people saying he will be like a new player this year because I can't see that happening.

Agree0 Disagree1

Completely agree with you Jaxer.

He can have all the tricks in the world, but how often does he actually use them to effect? He plays against quality defenders and they can read him, if he was in a weaker league he would look amazing "The next Ronaldo" again, haha, but he hasn't got a footballing brain and gives the ball away far too often and we end up getting punished as a result. He needs to be at a lesser team.

Maybe the threat of Zaha and Valencia will spur him on. But wearing the shirt should be inspiration enough and trying to impress SAF should be top of any players priorities, just hope Moyse reacts quickly when he reverts to his old and all too obvious tricks!

Agree1 Disagree0

Why not wait and judge him after he has had game time again.

Change of manager, new contract could mean a new Nani.
