I posted 3 weeks ago that the deal for Vidal was 95% done. I was given this info from a very close friend who is married to an Italian who is involved in Juves finances. He also said that the deal would have to be completed by August 5th. Its now apparent as to why, as Juve play tonight in Indonesia. He has told me that Juventus will only sell if (a) Vidal asks for a move & (b) United pay the asking price which is about 10million euros short of Juves valuation. Juventus know that a sale is necessary as they are struggling for money. They were hoping to sell Pogba to PSG or Chelsea for around 60 million but that never happened as they signed David Louis & Fabregas for considerably less. Vidal is the talisman/ iconic figure at the club & they want to squeeze every last penny they can for him which is understandable, but United are playing hardball & are looking at cheaper alternatives until they can get LVGs favourite (Strootman) in January. The deal is not dead but, somebody has to give a little ground. As I said in my last post this is what I have been told & is not my opinion, I would pay whatever it takes to sign him & get rid of Anderson, Wiggy etc to pay his wages.

How exactly would somebody at Juventus know what our plans were re; Strootman?

Agree0 Disagree1

It is common knowledge that LVG planned to build his Holland team around Strootman. It is also common knowledge that he would like him at United, even Roma know this, that's why they placed a ludicrous 100million price tag on him. Both coming back from serious injuries & IMO Strootmans injury was far worse, that's why we will probably not get him in this transfer window, we will watch him on his recovery & if all goes well will try & get him in January. I personally think that with us having such a good pre season LVG will try & get bye with a cheaper version of Vidal until he can get the player he really wants in January. If we would have lost most of the pre season games he would have had to acted quicker.

Anyone else think these rumours of De Jong and Strootman could be to try and get Juve to sell at a lower price?

With Juve spending on transfers and wanting to recoup the money, maybe Woodward is playing a waiting game for them to accept the deal.

Agree2 Disagree1

Just another excuse for the glazers to say no value in the market we need to pay what it takes if we really want a player . Someone else will eventually .

Agree1 Disagree0

Would make sense, we always pay top dollar for players, yet sell our own on the cheap ( except for Ronaldo ).

Agree0 Disagree0

There's a little rumour going about that were going to bid for de jong, this makes sense if the rumours are true about LVG wanting Strootman in Jan. Both the same sort of player, de jong won't get another chance from a big club. Strootman more than likely not ready till Jan, like for like player to swap around. LVG is put off by the price or fitness ref Vidal, so we maybe get de jong. Then move on to sorting the defence out with vermaelen and hopefully Hummels. That would be a decent transfer window if you ask me, maybe get Cuardo from Fiorentina and were defo looking at a top 4 finish. Hope Ed publishes this, long post I know. Keep up the good banter work.

Ed002 is khedira, turan or carvalho a realistic option for us or do you think van haal won't sign a quality central midfielder?

Believable9 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Turan.}

I think this alone shows that LvG is thinking of the 433. Especially telling Adnan that he will be important to him. I guess he will want to be able to change from a 3412 to a 433 during matches by bringing on Adnan plus a left winger or vice versa depending on opponents.

I hope not don't rate turan at all would be hugely disappointed

Agree3 Disagree1

Really can't see where arda turan would fit into our line up or improve our starting XI, he's too slow. Yes we need another winger, but surely we need someone with pace, someone who can pick the ball up and cover 30/40 yards and turn defence into attack. With rooney, RVP and mata guarantee'd to start, we need pace from our wingbacks. that's why I think we need Cuadrado, the pace on either side would be frightening!

Agree2 Disagree0

Are you comparing Turan to Carvalho and Khedira? The former is a left winger, while the other two or defensive midfielders. I quite like Turan, incredibly composed on the ball and would suit van Gaal's possession based football, not too sure how he would adapt to playing as a wing back however as he isn't the quickest. I would say he is quite a defensive minded winger, and does like to get stuck in to tackles. Perhaps Atleti's interest in Kagawa has provoked our interest?
