These are my views on our beloved team. We will need a replacement for the retiring Scholes, be it next year or not. This may be resolved internally in the form of Anderson. When he was purchased he had potential. .he has not fulfilled that potential. .yet. Personally I do not feel he will, that is not to say that I think he is a bad player, I just feel, even though he is still young, he will not be world class player that everyone though he would be( I no some will disagree).I don't no if any of our other youth prospects have the ability to fulfil this role as I am not from Manchester, nor England( and dream of one day going to Old Trafford) so I don't claim to or actually have any inside knowledge. .wonder if anyone will be able to tell me/ us if there truly is someone that can do it in the next 2-3 years. If not we do then need investment. I believe having an average central midfield is a lot more detrimental then having an average goal keeper so I believe cm should be the priority. We generally play 442 so therefore don't have an out and out defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder (I believe most will agree). So what we need is a mobile player that has the creativity as well as discipline needed to play in the 442 role.So who could play in this role, fits with our transfer policy( young not established .ie. "Value). We will still have a fairly solid backline for a few years. .valencia, park, nani + cleverly, will provide our width and we have an "adequate" front line. .with this one CM we could become slightly more then adequate. With carrick or fletcher or even anderson supporting him(sadly think haregreaves(spelling) will retire soon)problem now comes in the issue of finances, do we have the money, will it be made available? Surely it must be in order for us to compete to finance the lavish lives of the glazers.Would appreciate any comments or feedback.opinions not facts. CDS

Fair points made there. As a follow up question though - do you believe the FFP rules will lead to a decline in player values and wages and put an end to the ridiculously inflated transfer prices, and therefore make players like Rooney, Pastore etc etc more affordable in 18 months time?

firebear83

@I actually think not mate, I think there will be many player swaps mind.

What do you think Ed?

Sydney! {ed's note - I think the prices will dip to start with and then gradually creep back up again.}

@I am not so sure, it depends on how much the player wants out of the club and whether he sulks like Torres did. If the club is not under pressure to sell a player for cheap, then they wont. Palermo are a good example of that, Udinese are another, if they do not have to sell, they wont.

Sydney!

{Editor's Note: The plan is that player prices will eventually become stable and even potentially reduce.}

This is my own opinion about what United need to do with transfers, not facts, just common sense. Obviously, without Rio in the back, United look weak. Vidic is always rock solid, but without a solid partner, then our back line is vulnerable. Evans, contrary to what some say, is not a United quality CB. He's slow, unwilling to go into challenges, and is not strong in the air. He's always caught by through balls and in my opinion should be sold. There are a surplus of bright, rising CB's at the moment including Phil Jones, Gary Cahill, Mats Hummels, Nevan Subotic, Shawcross, etc. We need to sell Evans and buy a good, young replacement.

Same situation with our Mids. With Hargreaves, Scholes and Giggs retiring, and Gibson not a United quality mid, we need to replace them appropriately through players from our academy and buying foreign players like Goetze, Nuri Sahin, Pastore (doubt it but a player like him), etc.

Also, I don't know how the community feels about this, but Rooney does not look like his old self and it may be time to cash in. He seems constantly frustrated and in reality, if you've lost the love of the game then there is no reason to play.

Why would we sell Rooney and not buy a replacement? Ever heard of Welbeck, Diouf or Macheda? Anyone of the four would give us a strong strikeforce along with Berbatov, Owen and Hernandez, especially if it was Welbeck, plus if Cleverley comes back, that would give us extra creativity in midfield or the wing.

Also maybe losing may be the best thing to happen to us right now. It should help stop complacency and most of the time when we lose one, we do really well in our next few games, which is really what we need, plus the pressure of going unbeaten is gone.

If you are really worried, just laugh at Arsenal for blowing a 4-0 lead with 25 minutes to go :)

SK

p.s. Gibson really needs to leave, possibly with Evans, and if Gibson leaves I would happily take the number 28 shirt, my lucky number being born on 28th of February, actually bought the current home top on day of release with my name and 28.

Some very fickle "supporters" on here, regardless of performances - we have lost 1 league game all season. There are 13 games left & we are 4 points clear. Makes me wonder how many people on here moaning about our squad actually follow United home & away!? how many of you were at Wolves yetserday? judging by some of the posts - not many of you.

Someone has refered to Chris Smalling as "average" I haven't missed a game this season & everytime he has played he has looked very impressive.

Granted - I do believe we do need a midfielder that can pick the ball up, beat a man & have a go at goal or pick out that killer pass & obviously a keeper but that aside we are fine.

On a side note - I would not be suprised to see Wayne Rooney leave in the summer. He just doesn't look interested anymore (similar to the way Torres was at Liverpool)

I have also heard Michael Owen will be signing a one year contract extension - maybe this is another sign that Wayne might be leaving?

In my opinion (not what I want just what I think will happen)

Outs: Carrick, Rooney, Edwin, Gibbo, Hargreaves, G Nev & I think Evra will be 50/ 50 (really hope he stays though)

Ins - Rodwell, Henderson, Adler, Sanchez

Personally i'd love to see Ravel Morrison & Paul Pogba given a chance next season.

Many Thanks,
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Why would we sell Rooney and not buy a replacement? Think before you post.

As usual everyone is over reacting to the defeat to Wolves, but you seem to be forgetting its not the first time we have lost to an inferior side and won the League. Its rediculous how short peoples memories are! Now onto the rumours:

We all know VDS is retiring, his replacement will be Neuer, an established, international keeper who we regularly watch. He is like Schmeichal, he never puts a foot wrong unlike Stekelenburg who is prone to an error or three! Amos will be promoted in the summer to third choice as Kusczack will be moved on to a lower Premier League side, Stoke is a possible destination.

With Neville retiring changes could be made however it is unlikely. Pepe could join on a free transfer which would see Evans move on I feel. Evra will sign a new deal that will see his salary increase, but thank god he will still be here!

There will be changes in the midfield, Taarabt is talking s**t, he won't be joining United, not a chance. Ashley Young will sign for £15 million, he will be groomed as Giggs replacement for the end of next season. Scholes will retire at the end of this campaign and Giggs will be used more centrally. Charlie Adam will also join in the summer, this could see Carrick move on which is nothing to cry about.

Lastly there will be nothing happening up top, Macheda will come back off his loan as will Welbeck. Owen may leave but probably not!

*I very much doubt that Dortmund will let those 3 go all at the same time. They are the heartbeat and future of their team. Though I would like to see Goetze join United.

Today is not a day for moaning about results or players. Who we should buy or sell. It is a day to remember football isn't more important than life or death. It is a day to remember 53 years ago and a snowy Munich runway. The pride of English football, the pride of Manchester cut down in their pride. There is an ethos at this club about the way football should be played and these boys were the architects of that style. They would have surely gone on to dominate European football for years to come. We will never know, but what we can do today is put everything into perspective. Rather than write some rant on here today about how terrible we were or what a disgrace such a player is. Just take some time to think about the shirt, those beautiful bouncing Busby babes and what it means to be United. RAINFISHTROMBONE

The way United are playing, it looks as if they'll lose the title. .
3 away games that could change everything -
Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool.
2 home games -
Man City, Chelsea

I think its been too much.
United now need to sell Evans, buy Shawcross with p/ x Evans.
Smalling is average only, we need shawcross.
Rooney and Berbatov are useless away from home.
Wish we sell either of them and buy edinson cavani.
Hernandez should start every game from now.

If united had bought a winger and an AM, it wouldhave been easier to win the title.

Any idea when is Valencia coming back?

I really don't understand this "we must spend money" nonsense, and "we look weak" and all the other drivvle. .
I thought with our "poor squad" we are doing ok! Why MUST we buy?! Am I missing something?! Don't you strengthen to win things? Aren't we in a position to win things at the moment?
Our squad is doing what we want. . . leading the league.
Stop wanting to spend millions after millions, just let it be.
If we slip, then worry, but how much do we need to win and spend before some of you little boys are actually happy?!
Glazers this, no money that. . . yawn.
Also stop bleeting on about Pogba and Morrison for next season. . . Get real. Never in a million years. Both will/ can be class, but no REAL chances in the first team for another couple of years. .

I think your wrong about Rooney leaving. If he was on his way out at the end of the season then Fergie wouldn't start him every game or molly coddle him. Why wouldn't he limit his first team starts and give Hernandez more games. Whats the point in playing a poor Rooney for the rest of the season or instead he could start our future star Hernanadez and don't say his fee would drop because surely a player in bad form for 15 months does far more damage. I'm just worried when we're going away in the big games coming up Fergie will bottle it and play 4-5-1 leaving Rooney on and dropping Berbs.

So fellow reds unless, assisinates all Glazer scum, they are here for the long haul. and doesn't seem like anything will stop there fangs sucking a great team dryer and dryer. I am not affiliated with MUST or anyone and this is what I was told buy someone who has never lied to me yet. Worse still he is a red, so why lie at all.

If I can get the Glazers assasinated will you guys stop bitching me? U know us Celtic fans and our "connections" LOL

SickBhoy

P.S Is there any truth or credence with the Qatari rumours Ed? Would that be a good thing IYO? Down to the usual I suppose, the money getting spent on the team. {ed's note - I am not convinced by the stories myself, seems highly unlikely to me. If their intention is to get rid of the club's debt, then it would be a good thing. United can easily stay within the FFP guidelines and spend money, good money.}
