Stumbled on this site a while ago and have been reading posts every other day since. Some views appear intellegent, well thought out and logical others seem to have no idea what-so-ever but I guess that as an opinions site that's part of the charm. I did promise myself that i'd read and not post but heard earlier today that chance garay and/or alcantara may be announced by club tomorrow evening but both hoped to play some part in pre-season tour. Garay signing will not result in centre back leaving club. Smalling on recovery from injury to cover rafael. Jones to be given shot at partnering carrick hence psv statement earlier this week delaying strootman deal for 12 months and allows moyes to field his quota of taller physical players whilst allowing kagawa rooney young alcantara cleverly zaha or welbeck to operate behind van persie or hernandez. Valencia expected to remain at club. Nani expected to be sold along with anderson if fees are met. Powell will and michael keane and henriquez may leave on loan once league cup run over. Powell will pre season with first team. Also mentioned was moyes would like to bring baines to united and another offer will be made. Assume evra would head back to france should this happen.

why does everyone assume nani and anderson are being sold, this rumour been going on for years, I don't see a problem with us keeping them on as squad players, anderson on his game is as good as anyone just is unfit most of the time and nani on form can be world class but he dips in form some times but I rate them better then young and cleverly.

If Nani os not sold this season he'll be a free agent by the end of next year. Not only that but he also has a pretty high wage right now, and is demanding an even higher one.
Anderson's problem is fitness and we have a similar player to him, Tom Cleverley. Anderson is originally an AMC or even AML and MC was never really "his thing". With Rooney staying and Kagawa already first or second choice as AMC I really doubt Manchester United will need him.
I do think Anderson has a lot more to offer than Cleverley, and a lot more potential too, but we stumble in the Premier League/UEFA policy of at least 8 players from the same country as the club. Anderson being unfit for months just don't help much AND he's not even a player raised in the country/club, whereas Cleverley, although not so good, fits that bill.
And to the original poster of this thread: don't forget about Fletcher! I do think we need to start looking elsewhere for an "enforcer". I like him, but we just can't count on him anymore, or at least for the next season. Too much risk.

Alcantara would partner Carrick not play behind RVP. Jones would cover Carrick I expect. 16m plus on Garay appears a little wasteful considering how many options we still have at the back.

San

It's assumed nani will leave as he is in the last year of his contract and is yet to agree a new deal

I was under the impression that we had just bought varela ( young Uruguayan right back) to provide cover for raffael. If we are buying another cb I would have a serious look at kurt zouma from st etienne. Big powerful and fast. Also young.

Jones's passing is poor he'll never be a midfielder, he'll be one of the best central defenders the club has ever had but average at best in midfield

Dustbin

I too don't come one he very often, but remember that the eds are not getting paid for this and have their own lives/jobs etc. They are here to moderate and offer opinion on occasions.

Bring back the eds.

Their informative opinion was highly cherished and half the reason I came here. Filters out the crap!

Agreed, Phil Jones looks as though he'll be a fine Centre Half, but a Central Midfielder he's not. He lacks composure on the ball, technique and an ability to finish. Sounds like I'm slaughtering him, I'm not. Let's leave him in his natural position and strengthen midfield.

On a different note, my 15 year old son who breathes football assures me Thiago is a cross between Xavi and Iniesta. Could be worse!

Let's all get behind DM, it's the most crucial time in our club's recent history.

Trawlerman.

Roma are extremely interested in Nani, whether that comes to anything I have no idea. I have no info at all that I would rely on. I saw somebody last week post that Man U were back in for Erik Lamella and the same or next day I heard Roma were prepared to offer Lamella as part of the deal.
Seems a little optimistic rumour but that's what I heard.

Just personal opinion, but I don't believe a word of the rumours regarding Garay, nor did I really believe we would want Strootman. I still don't expect us to sign either myself.
I do still hope and believe we are interested in Thiago who would be a formidable signing. I also think we will make another signing on top of this but dotn expect it to be either Strootman nor Garay. who however I have no idea, won't be Bale would be shocked if we get Ronaldo, possibly a total surprise signing as Varela was?
Also to the poster saying Anderson is an attacking left midfielder or AM and central midfield "isnt his thing". Though I agree he played further forward for Porto (in a different formation) I totally refute your statement, he was absolutely superb in his first 18 months at the club. Since then he has struggled maybe through niggling injuries, lack of games, confidence or maybe off field reasons. Personally however as we have a new manager I think he deserves one last fresh chance as let's face it I would rather have Anderson than the probable £10-12m he would bring in. IF and its a big IF he can steer clear of injury, get fit and get a run of games forcing him into the team (yes I know its been said for three years). dependant on our formation the thought of Anderson alongside Thiago is mouth watering in my opinion
Invisible Stuey

Invisible Stuey,

Let me make amends to my statement regarding Anderson: I'm from Brazil so, truth be told, I lost part of his career when he went to Porto, but here I followed his career with great interest, because when he appeard at Gremio he was lauded as the "next Ronaldinho".
He's explosiveness, his technique, his great range of passing and even his cocky behavior (in Brazil the press know him as the boy with two cellphones. ) somewhat, while playing as a AMC or AML showed that he had everything to be regarded as similar to Ronaldinho.
With no surprise I saw him playing as a MC for United, as Ferguson sometimes changed the original position of some of his newly acquired players but, in Brazil, we still viewed him as more of an "number 10" than a "number 8". He showed great promise in that position, but we all knew here that he lacked a few things for that job. He's is a good MC, but was far better as a more attacking minded player.
Now that I think about it, Moyes can correct this by actually putting him where he originally belonged. I would be be really happy if he's given one more year. He would turn into a monster, although I might recognize that his 3 years at Manchester United was nerly diastrous with injuries and him not training his shooting/finalization, as this was probably his only major flaw for an attacking minded midfilder.

To complete the last post:

Although, in Brazil at least, we don't like "cocky" players, and there are plenty here, Anderson appeard to have basis to his cockyness not only technicaly speaking but also phisically and, more important, mentally.
The monumental mental toughness he showed at what the press here called "A Batalha dos Aflitos" (basically he scored a goal at the 90+ minutes, with his team having 4 less players on the field due to red cards and having 2 penaltys against, which the other team didn't scored), or "Battle of the Afflicts" (don't know a better translation) was a vindication to why everybody regarded him as a fuure world star. And at that game he playes, extraordinally, as an AMC/AML.

Well ironically in my lastest Fm2013 game I sold Young and Nani and bought Thiago and Anderson is playing AML next to Kagawa with Rooney on the right :) And he is doing very well too!
You obviously have seen far more of Andersons formative years and how he was viewed in Brazil. I must admit only seeing him three times for Porto and was playing from what I saw as the most offensive of three central midfielders linking play.
My reason for argument is not directly at your comment but more of a general one. As mentioned Anderson was superb in his first 18 months playing in cedntral midfield, hence the song as he did indeed sh*t on Fabregas as well as dominating Gerrard as well. Yet I hear lots of people saying he has been poor for us purely as he has been wasted as he is an attacking midfielder. however whenever I have seen him play for us as an attacking midfielder (all be it rarely) he has been very poor 90% of the time so I don't see why people insist he has been wasted playing in cm when his best performances have been there for us earlier in his career and should be playing AMC for us when these have been some of his worst performances.
I still think a fit and in form Anderson has both the strength, burst of power running, tackling ablity and touch to be a phenomenal beast of a central midfielder whether its his supposed best position or not. Of course the problem with him becoming a number 10 is Rooney and Kagawa stand in his way, so opportunities to get game time there would be limited, an option on the left of whatever formation we choose, quite possibly an option as we don't really even have a player to play on the left, Kagawa can, Young does a job, Januzaj probably will have opportunities.
I think one thing we certainly agree on however, Anderson is a player we both love, not just as a character, but as a player and it still isn't too late we both hope for him to turn around his fortunes at the club, currently for me he is still by far the best option alongside Carrick we have when available

Great set of posts fellas; really thoughtful.

you have to think utd have been a little unlucky not to have central midfield already well taken care off. like you say, Anderson has all the attributes to be beast of a midfielder but injuries have never really given him the chance to kick on and make the position his.

of course I'm also thinking of Hargreaves and his injuries robbing us of another quality player.

the other loss was self inflicted by fergie who lost pogba through what appeared to be an uncommon error in judgement and unusually poor man management.
