I am fairly positive that in the summer we will sign one of the following:

Ross Barkley
Mateo Kovacic

I think SAF wants both of these players, however i think that only one will come in, be allowed to bed in, take someones place. And then the other comes in. I think Kovacic will move first, £10 million doesn't sound too bad to me - would of liked to have seen it happen in January but i can't complain if it happens in the summer.

RedDevil19

I would just like to play devils advocate shall we say.

How do you think we would compare with City next season if we signed Barkley and Kovacic whilst City signed Ronaldo?

Hypothetical of course.

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

It raises an interesting question. Would you prefer a more long term scenario where we sign Kovacic and Barkley or would you prefer Ronaldo back? Personally Id take Ronaldo this summer and then bring in Barkley next summer. Not asking for much ;)

TK-Red {Ed007's Note - What about James...........ach forget it ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

What happened to those two crystal palace superstars you kept going on about ? You've just linked another pair who are nowhere near utd standard or better than any of our reserves

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh sit down Ed007 ;)

TK-Red {Ed007's Note - I'll get my coat.......}

Agree0 Disagree0

Im presuming you mean James Beattie, naturally Ed.

TK-Red {Ed007's Note - Who else could I possibly mean TK buddy? :-) Answers on a postcard to Ed Towers, Sandbanks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take Ronaldo obviously, wait a year to sign one of the other two. And anyway - Ronaldo wouldn't go to City, he is a red and has too much loyalty and respect for the club.

I think that we could see him back, i'm not going to rule it out thats for sure.

And to our unnamed friend who seems to always have a smart comment, i only ever talked about Clyne as being definatly good enough for us to go for. Zaha maybe, but i'd still like to see Clyne come here.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree0

James Earl Jones......final answer. Tell you what though Ed, while we're on the subject. Theres this lad at Wigan who seems to look handy. Im surprised you havent picked up on him before mate ;)

TK-Red {Ed007's Note - I'll Google him TK, I'll get back to you guys if he looks any good.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Clyne I'd defiantly not good enough and they're not smart arsed comments just opinions, our rivals are buying top class players yet you keep talking about players who have done absolutely nothing in the game yet you think we should buy them, I want proven quality to add to the very good players in the squad and coming through the youth team.

Agree0 Disagree0

'Red Man'

I think you should take a look at Kovacic, he reminds me of a young Ronaldo, at 17 he already has the physique to cope with the EPL. Would be a good buy and could be why SAF never fought to keep Ravel.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Its nonesense to suggest that Barkley, Clyne etc are not 'united standard', Was Cantona, united standard? Football for managers like Ferguson and Wenger is about fullfilling potential. Spotting something in a player that can be harnessed and built upon, not spending millions on a player, just because a player costs 50 million it will not imply success 100% of the time. Personally I'd rather united buy the younger players around the 10million mark and leave Ronaldo where he is, he wanted to go, we let him go. Ronaldo is like a nice cheesecake, once its gone its gone!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Was cantina utd standard? Are you off your head? Anyone who watched him play before knew he was a utd player. Why keep going on about young players over and over when we've got better in the reserves?

Agree0 Disagree0

The only problem with Kovacic is he is a little slow, but with the training facilities we have that won't be an issue you gettin him fit. I'd like it if we could snatch him, he looksl like he could be something special.

Sanshine

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he meant was Cantona United standard at Barkley's age? In other words it's about finding potential in a youth player that you feel you can develop. I think Barkley has a lot of potential. SAF likes this player and will probably make his move in the summer.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney! You have no source within United. Everyone you linked us with this window was wrong.

Now you bum over Pogba. 'Have a feeling he may start this week'

You're a complete joker.

Salford Red

Agree0 Disagree0

'Salford Red'

You are dead right I have no source within United, I have never pretended to have one either. Who exactly did I say we would sign during this window? I "bum" over Pogba? Never heard that saying before and like you I am from Salford, perhaps it's a new thing they are saying in schools now?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

My point exactly, cantona wasn't bought when was that age, he was bought when he was good enough to play for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

I had a quick scout of Kovacic, he doesn't remind me of Ronaldo, he reminds me of maybe an Aguero type player, but with better passing. Either way, a very good young player.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

Before united signed Cantona he was the bad boy of french football, he was united standard before signing for Leeds, but Fergie left it. You fools who want united to return to the days of smashing transfer records, remember United went throughout the 80s to win 3FA cups!

Agree0 Disagree0

But I read a couple of weeks back that united have given up on their pursuit to sign kovacic, and now again we have started talking about Kovacic?

Ed's or anyone else who may know.

Are we still interested in Nicolas Gaitan? There was alot going around in the media a while ago and nothing since? All the paper's back then seemed to think we'd be signing him in the summer for sure now nothing? Also how much would be cost (roughly) because I can't see (and also hope) United spending over 20 million on him?

United Till I Die 1987

Believable1 Unbelievable4

As far as I'm aware it's pretty much tied up for the summer. I can't imagine it being his buy-out clause (which is £37.5m if I remember rightly), however I think it'll be around the £20m mark.

We're interested in Javi Garcia and supposedly Rodrigo of Benfica as well, so we may see a deal for not just Gaitan.

rpc

Agree0 Disagree0

It was reported as a done deal for the summer; however, United then made it clear to the press we weren't in for him and were not interested.

Either United made an enquiry and were put off by the price or by interest from other big teams (United do not involve themselves in bidding wars) OR United were never interested in the first place.

The story has gone very quiet, so my guess would be that the second option is most likely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its likely that we were enquired, however it seems that we were put off by the price tag - and rightly so. Over £30 million for him is totally rediculous!

RedDevil19 {Ed002's Note - I guess the search function must be broken. So with a feeling of deja vu, Manchester United and Barcelona both showed interest in the winger but PSG or Napoli may be the first to eventually put an offer on the table. Asking price is and will be an issue. My understanding is that Manchester United and PSG did speak with Benfica but no bid was made.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Every year before we play any champions league group games we are strangely linked to a player who we will come up against in our group, yet we never sign them. It's just the papers trying to add a little spice and sell papers. The moment the group games are over we never get linked to that player again.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Had heard a 25m deal had been agreed in theory for summer similar to nasri last year, lets just hope history doesn't repeat itself

Who cares where Shaqiri goes? Hazard is a similar player, faster, smarter, trickier, better passer. If we only get one player in the summer and he's that player, I'll be chuffed.

Percy

Believable15 Unbelievable2

Hazard will not move to united.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

We have absolutely zero chance of affording Hazard, so let's not get our hopes up. He's worth £30m or more, and it's safe to say Man Utd's new price-range lies between £15-20million, possibly 25million at a push. We wouldn't win an auction for Hazard, and an auction is what would happen. That's why Shaqiri is disappointing, he was affordable and if we'd replaced Park with him as our 4th winger (Nani, Valencia, Shaqiri and Young), we would have looked formiddable on the wings.

RED_SKY

RED_SKY

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt he will, but there's more chance of him moving to us than Shaqiri. I reckon there'll be 30 million made available if the right player is.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

All this talk of £15-20m is our new price range is nonsense! We went for snijder in the summer (but obviously didnt get him) im sure his price was more than £15-20m!

Lets just wait till the summer to see SAF's master plan...

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard will sign for City or Chelsea in the summer I'm 1,000,000 % sure on that. Shaqiri will sign for Bayern in the summer!

United Till I Die 1987

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard will not sign for city because he said he doent want to sit on the bench! And he said he wants to sign for a top club, like man united or chelsea! So thats ur 1,000,000 out the window!

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see Hazard being sold for any less than £30m..
Plus we don't need any more wingers.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

I was awaiting the first post slating my claims about 'our new price range'.

Mate, Sneijder means jack faeces to me - until we see a £30-35million player SIGN FOR UNITED, I couldnt care less about these supposed bids or candid interest being given.

The burden of proof is on you - I am adamant we will never sign a player above £20-25million VERY MAXIMUM.

Until we do, I am winning.

RED_SKY

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard is as much a winger as David Silva is. In fact they're very similar, only Silva probably has better vision and passing where as Hazard had better dribbling and speed. I can't see him going to City, he'll either go to Chelsea (probable) or us.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't agree with all this 'new price range' crap people are spouting out on. SAF has said numerous times that the money is there, he also said that there are problems and areas to improve in the side. And he wants QUALITY.

Therefore i'm sure if a player that we wanted came available, then we would pay for them. However the only player we would go over say, £35 million for would be Ronaldo.

Also, we spent over £50 million in the summer, so there is money there. If we needed just one player to complete the side then that money would be supplied - it doesnt have to be split up and spraed around on numerous players.

'until we see a £30-35million player SIGN FOR UNITED, I couldnt care less about these supposed bids or candid interest being given'

does Berba not prove the Glazers will release the funds for a 30mil player?

our accounts show we have around 60mil available, add player sales (jan included) and we could have 70-80mil so it is not implausable for us to compete for Hazard

in england its between us, city, arsenal and chelsea. arsenal may simply get costed out, chelsea are trying to cut their wage bill (long term) by signing lower wage players to replace their current older higher earners as are we, so city seem to have the advantage there, whether they have the space for him is another matter tho,
so i think we have as much chance of getting him as any, having said that i think we will sign Gaitan as he would be a cheaper option (wage wise) leaving more funds for other positions

dags

Agree0 Disagree0

If u dont care were shaqiri goes, several other uniteds care becos of our financial constraints, yes they are similar in most areas, but shaqiri is stronger and cheaper, get that to your head mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Constraints? You're making us sound like Arsenal now. If the right player is available, we'll pay the money.

All rumours about Jovetic seemed to have gone abit quiet, but recently he has come out and stated his admiration for the prem, is there any chance in man utd goin in for him?
I personally have been really impressed with some of his displays this season and think he could be a good buy and would be 'cheap' incomparison to alot of alternatives.

Gpot7

Believable8 Unbelievable1

If Stevan Jovetic signed for United I'd be over the moon, he is absolute class and would be a great addition to United's squad. He is one player I hope to god United try to sign if he leaves Fiorentina.

United Till I Die 1987

Agree0 Disagree0

We originaly scouted him apparently when at Partizan, so if he came on the market I'm sure we would take a look at him if the price is right. Maybe give him a Brucey bonus, depending on appearances ;)

Sanshine

Agree0 Disagree0

If by the start of next season we had lost berba, owen, macheda and diouf and replaced them with jovetic i would be more than happy, esp considering that rooney is only 27, chica 23 and welbs is 21 adding jovetic at 22 would give us a dangerous front line for years to come

The German newspaper "Bild" reporting Bayern Munich close to signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Basel for 9m Euros. Seems low fee to me.

Gino

Believable8 Unbelievable2

One of Bayern's officials has released a statement saying there has been no fee agreed, nore personal terms yet, although they are interested. Plus Basel want 12-15m for him!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah it's true he will be a Bayern player in the summer, 9 million euro's is a very good deal for Bayern.

Hi Guys
The main reason I support this great club is down to one man. That man is Sir Bobby Charlton. He was my first idol when I was 5 years old.He in my mind is Mr.Manchester United.
So on hearing that he missed last nights awards ceremony through having a minor operation I would like to wish him a speedy recovery and can't wait to see him in the stands supporting the Reds very soon.
The term Legend is banded about very easily today but in my mind Bobby is a true legend
Get well soon.
