BBC and United website have confirmed we have signed Varela. who is next, it looks like we are looking to do our business early this year.

When Chelsea, city, Monaco and barca have already spent huge money on real players we have spent 1 mil on a backup at a position where Rafael should start for the next decade. Doesn't seem like we're doing much real transfer activity this far, especially when compared to our competition.

Who have Chelsea bought?

City overspent on 2 decent players and will improve them but I haven't ever seen anyone on here saying that we should have been interested in Fernandinho or Navas so not sure why people are panicking.

Monaco have spent a huge amount but for this season at least we don't need to worry about them as their not a European rival at the moment.

Barca spent a huge amount on a guy who I think is over hyped. He's more Robinho than Ronaldinho I think and I think Lucas Moura will be the better player.

Never one to say I told you so but. another cut price player in a position already covered, unless Rafa is going to be moved forward? Its season ticket time and United issue their usual promises. I doubt there will be any huge signings. As usual I see us going for "young players for the future". Sorry but the future is now.

How is right back already covered?

We have Rafael (who is injured an awful lot) we have a few players who can cover (Jones/Smalling/Valencia) but none of them are right backs.

And I am sick of so called fans whinging and moaning that we never make any major signings. Just look at how many trophies we have won over the past few years.

1 million on a young right back is fine. Hopefully Jones and Smalling will get a run out at their proper positions if they can both stay injury free.

I would like a dominant and starting midfielder to play along side Carrick. And depending on Rooney then maybe a attacking midfielder (somebody like Thiago) but I want Kagawa to get some decent game time playing his actual position (number 10).

I think fans need to remember that we have just won the Premiership (and fairly easily). City have signed to good players but remember they arn't world beaters. Chelsea will improve but both sides need to do a lot of catching up.

Chealsea have brought in mourinho I think the second guy was thinking about that but he's hardly a singing

You answered your own question there. and 'so called fans'? I've been a supporter since before you were born. And when is having an opinion on something that you don't agree with 'whinging and moaning'? If you are sick of it, why are you on here? I could say I'm sick of so called fans being sick of so called fans! If you don't like or agree with others opinions fair enough, but don't start calling people like me 'so called fans'!
Do you think 1m on a player means he's as good as the player we already have? So is he better than Jones/Smalling/Valencia? I doubt it for 1m!
If you believe we are as good as Chelsea or City, you are kidding yourself. Both ran rings around us last season, and United did no more than enough for the last third of the season. City and Chelsea had their blips but came back stronger and will strengthen further. We were better in only one department. SAF. and now he's gone!

I would hardly say we are doing our business early, it appears as he had trials interest in Valera has been there for a while and probably one for the future. I would agree we have right back COVERED as Smalling and Jones can play there but I would think they are both and will be in the future playing the centre back positions, so Valera if he is any good is a sensible signing long term. However Dan I would save the bleating about lack of activity until the window has closed if we haven't made good signings in your opinion, however I expect you to be correct in us not signing half the names mentioned here. I would be very surprised if we sign and of Di Maria, Garay, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Bale for example. I would be slightly underwhelmed if we signed the likes of Strootman. I will be overwhelmed if we sign the likes of Thiago though. We don't really sign big foreign imports so why people always rumour us about it every summer does surprise me, when was the last big foreign purchase we made outside of the premiership as bar arguably De Gea already being a big name I can't think of any? If we sign a defensive midfielder, personally i'm hoping for a non profile name that shows bags of potential because none of the names i'm seeing particularly excite me

Invisible STuey. You call it bleating if you like, I call it stating the obvious. How many times have we been here? Linked to everyone and his dog yet it rarely happens. We did well with what we had last season but I don't know any United fan that was really impressed with us. We get by, that's about it, but there are a lot of teams in the Prem now that play far better football than us! Did you see a real creative display from our midfield last season? If you did, it was a game I missed!
If we get Ronnie it will be because he favours us, but we can't compete with City and Chelsea and we competed before due to the Ferguson Formula. We need Moyes to hit the ground running and get it right straight off. A couple of very good signings with Zaha would make most of us happy!

Ed, do you know of any further interest in Bruma? For £1 million he would be a good buy for the future along with Varela.

Think he'd cost bit more than £1m, he has a lot of potential.

Love your optimism, but how are you so sure that Ronaldo is coming back?

Tbh it's nothing more than a gut feeling, a case of weighing the for and against.

a) he plays for the second best side in a 2 sided league.
b) he comes home

not that simple obviously but we know the reason he left which was a very honest and reasonable one and I just think he may feel he has taken his career at that club as far as he can.

He will sign for who ever pays him the most its his nature

He loves utd, besides he wouldn't hold us to ransom, we can't afford wages in which he desires? fair enough? doesn't mean the loves not there!

McCullough, Veseli, Gorre, Fornasier, Cofie, Brown, Giverin, Hendrie and Wilkinson released. McGinty odds on to be released soon. I suspect Bebe, Kiko, Wootton & Amos will be sold too. Tunnicliffe & Petrucci given season long loans or sold if a good enough offer comes in.
