WAYNE Rooney will leave Manchester United this summer after being dropped from his side's biggest game of the season.
He is resigned to the club selling him in the summer to pave the way for the return of Cristiano Ronaldo or another top signing.
Rooney and his advisers feel he has no alternative but to leave after being dropped for Tuesday night's Champions League defeat by Spanish giants Real Madrid at Old Trafford.

We should retain wayne rooney unless a substantial offer where to be recieved. He is an outstanding footballer amd that's where the main element of football lies. Wayne, if he doesn't score goals creates goals, creates opportunites and has an eqauisive passing range. He can play on the wings and midifeld. No other united player offers so many attributes. He will eventually get that form back. All these naives if he doesn't lose weight, if he doesn't stop this. sir alex would not have a player at Manchester united if he did not possess the correct attitude.

Ok coleen

Agree3 Disagree1

Defo not worth the huuuuuge wages he's on at the mo. THAT is where the problem is IMO

Agree3 Disagree0

Instead of getting mad about not being picked, maybe Wayne should get fit. he is at least a stone too heavy. one hing having a stone of muscle it's another matter when's its pure lard. if he really wants to stay then get your at together mate

Agree2 Disagree0

I can't understand how people can't see how his performances have been. Do they actually watch the games or just believe what they read in the papers where he rarely gets criticised. Fergie will come out today and say it was tactical, he's not for sale blah blah blah. In reality he is playing for his future though. Out of contract soon so his value will plummit and he will want another pay rise when he's not even worth what he'getting now. It makes sense to sell especially if Lewandowski is available for a decent price. Plus Fergie will enjoy having the final say after Rooneys greediness a couple of years back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney is going no were no matter how much people and media say the righting is on the wall its not. I watch loads of mutv and when you see the manager and Rooney together its a special bond they share Rooney will get a new contract next season and be here were he belongs for the rest of his playing days no big move to a chelsea or psg no move to the MLS when he gets old a coaching role is will happen and his knowledge will be passed on to the likes of Wilson and Keane this is what will happen with Rooney mark my words. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney has scored 12 and has 12 assists. He has score, or created an assist, at the rate of 0. 92 per game. I expect Rooney and Nani will be playing for us next season.
As for tuesday's tactics SAF got them spot on. Wellbeck strangled Alonso's passing range, whilst using his pace to really scare the wits out of Real. I love United using pacy players and in Nani, until he was sent of and Wellbeck we had two of the most potent attackers on the pitch.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree1

Well pointed out Mik the boss did get it right the only problem I have is he didn't get the situation under control quick enough after the sending off although I doubt there was much we could of done but the team that started would have probably seen them off its not Waynes fault or the manager or even Nani it was the refs fault we lost. I would think it is WAY too early to consider letting Rooney go. I think he'll play central mid for years to come - It's simple when Wayne Ronney plays well - so do Manchester United. Yes I'd love Ronaldo back but not at Rooney's expense. Anyway I suspect if Ronaldo is considering a return, after his wage concerns are dealt with, he'll be happier if Rooney is still here.

Wayne was out of sorts and out of form, same as Valencia - the dropping was merited - selling either or both would be insane.

I promise you, Rooney will not be sold. There is no chance its just the press pouncing on the smallest possibility of a big story.

Anytime a big name Manchester United player doesn't play, the press and the world automatically assumes that they are being sold in the summer. You can list them off from the last two seasons: Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, Anderson, Nani, De Gea etc. All were being touted to be leaving Manchester United and yet, all are still with us and are important players for the team. Rooney will not be sold IMO.

BUT. If he was to be sold it would need a big name, big money replacement (maybe even two.

-Ronaldo
-Bale
-Neymar
-Rodriguez and Gotze
-Wilshere

If we were to sell Wayne these signings would be needed to replace him. Which one would you pick 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5

RedKnight

Believable20 Unbelievable10

4, 1, 2, 5 & 3.

In that order.

Sydney!

Agree3 Disagree0

1 defo, possibly 2 defo not 5 nd not really 3 or 4

Agree1 Disagree2

1, 5, 4, 2, 3. Bale is great but his style isn't the style I want us to play and Neymar would flop big time in the PL.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember what happened to Van Nistelrooy. He was dropped for the Carling Cup final in favour of Saha and he ended up leaving. History could be repeating itself with Rooney.
IMO, Rooney, Nani and Chicharito will be sold with Ronaldo, Zaha (already signed) and Lewandowski replacing them.

Agree0 Disagree2

1, 4, 2, 5, 3 but none are likely IMO. Maybe Rodriguez or gotze but doubt both.

Strooman and Rodriguez much more likely

Aj

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see why you'd speculate as to possible replacements if your promising everyone he won't be sold?
Anyway I personally think he will be sold, Rooney is still a great player but is he as good as he was, I don't think so. His ball retention is poor now, first leg against RM he gave the ball away time and time again and when he come on the other night. I know RM has great players but this giving the ball away easily happens repeatedly, see Giggs goal away to QPR for an example of an easy pass wasted by Rooney and others winning the ball back.
If we could get £30 million in re-invest then I'd be more than happy
SC

Agree0 Disagree0

Dan, you would rather have Wilshere over Goetze & Rodriguez? Behave ;)

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - I would have to go Ronaldo, Bale, Gotze/Rodriguez, Wilshere I don't think is a replacement option but still have him over Neymar}

Agree1 Disagree0

I would go the same order as Syd! although Wilshere and Bale could be in any order. I would be equally happy with either.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004, you would rather have Bale over Rodriguez AND Goetze? Behave ;)

I would take Goetze over bale alone.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - I'm not sure. I think Bale brings the same sort of fear factor that Ronaldo has. May never be as good probably wont be but teams fear him and gives others more time on the ball}

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely no chance of bale or wilshire, to even think it is laughable!

Agree0 Disagree0

You would surely have to go for option 4: Goetze & Rodriguez, the two hottest properties in Europe!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree 100% with Sydney. Why would you turn down 2 future world stars over 1?

G. A. G. U. S

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd Goetze and Rodriguez in none sense it would be one of the two so I ignored the "and" bit. I would rather have Wilshere than either of them because he is exactly what we are missing in midfield IMO.
People say Ronaldo is at his peak and old but what percentage of foreign signings have stayed longer than 4 years in the clubs history? Not many at all. Ronaldo is such an athlete he will be peaking until he is at least 33 then we could still get a big fee for him when he gets his final move to the MLS.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Wishere, Bale, Ronaldo, Gotze, Neymar, Rodriguez, in that order and yes Ronnie is the best player but is much older than all these guys I would guess we have a chance to sign Bale and Rodriguez and maybe Gotze but no chance with the rest would be happy to sign any of them they would all give us somthing new Nani could be as good and should be but for what ever reasons he just ain't there so I think he will leave and somebody will come in maybe one of this lot maybe its Zaha or someone else who really knows one thing for sure Rooney is going no were. oh dear oh dear oh dear those lazy british jouranlists reckon rooneys future is in doubt just cause he didn't start he had been inefective in the first leg and in the premier league giggs had been great nani was picked because of his couter attacking ability and welbeck deserved to start after the first leg where does rooney fit in a. let me think this is a hard one nowhere

Believable17 Unbelievable5

Welbeck is terrible don't bother selling him just release him

few online sites reporting everton are going to make an a bid to take rooney back to merseyside, anyone heard anything? apparently talking about a straight swap deal with fellaini with rooney taking a pay cut to go back? any of the ED's heard anything on this? would fellaini work in the midfield? would anyone want the deal? {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it.}

Believable4 Unbelievable50

I don't really think united would be getting the better deal if that was to happen

Agree1 Disagree0

LOL, as if.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

That's absolute tosh. I'm not too against selling Rooney if we bring in another top forward. But Fellaini, LOL!

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I'm sure he'll give up his £200k+ p/w wages to fit in with Everton's wage structure!

HBadger

Agree0 Disagree0

Would people be happy if Rooney goes and only Ronaldo comes in?Obviously whatever we get for Rooney we'll have to pay a lot more for Ronaldo which would probably exhaust our entire summer fund. With Zaha already coming in and maybe only Nani and Scholes to go. I'd be happy enough with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

A pay cut? of about £200k? right oh

andyred

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea this will happen like everton have got 30 million and 200k a week to give away! next thing will b cantona playing again

Cannot believe what I'm reading. All the posters and even some of the regulars on this site calling for Rooney to be sold. I don't know whether it's because your views are being obscured by the results of the other night but to sell Rooney is madness!

He puts his all in every time he plays! Yes he questioned the clubs ambition two seasons ago, get over it. He is a winner and knows what's required to win trophies. The only reason he came out about the club lacking ambition was due to the fact there was players who are considered lesser players in his position as him earning a lot more money than he was. If the guy next to you at your work-place was under-performing then it came out he was on a higher wage than you, would you sit back and take it ask yourselves?

He is the face of English football and if he was to be sold to a club abroad what would that say about our beloved Premiership and English football in general?

ALDUtd

Believable30 Unbelievable16

Agreed ALDUtd but when he wants a new contract do you think he will take a pay cut or will he want more than his reported 250k pw.

I don't think he's worth 250k let alone more

Agree3 Disagree0

ALDUtd, So would you give Rooney a new contract then? Do you think he is going to be worth £200k per week to the team for the next 4-5 years?

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair there's a lot of people on here been questioning Rooney for quite some time, me included.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beckham was the face of English football etc. 2012-13 Games: 26 Goals: 12 Assists: 12

2011-12 Games: 38 Goals: 29 Assists: 4

2010-11 Games: 37 Goals: 15 Assists: 13

2009-10 Games: 39 Goals: 31 Assists: 5

2008-09 Games: 43 Goals: 16 Assists: 10

2007-08 Games: 38 Goals: 15 Assists: 10

2006-07 Games: 47 Goals: 18 Assists: 11

Stats are average at best. Player is better than average at best. Has been over hyped by the media over the years. Scores a fantastic goal every season at best.

Bring on 20!

Agree0 Disagree0

Those stats look better than average to me!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah he even held the club to ransom over contract talks and even better, turned up to pure season a stone overweight. Way to go Wayne, keep up the good work! A true professional.

Agree0 Disagree0

It says that we have finally seen the light and realized that he is not the player he once was. I think saf is coming to this conclusion too.
He is not irreplaceable, falcao will be immense at united.
So let's all stop building him up into a world class talent to rival Ronaldo and messi. He's been average this season. And I wasn't going to mention the money, but for someone who came into pure season a stone overweight, cannot control a ball, cannot pass, he sure is earning far more than he is worth.

Ed, if Rooney is to leave Manchester united, do you know which English clubs would be after him? I suspect we would see interest from both Chelsea and Manchester City since they are the ones with the unlimited funds, and possibly Tottenham with the money coming from the sale of Bale. {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

Believable3 Unbelievable10

Bale won't be leaving spurs this summer!

Agree0 Disagree1

Spurs wouldn't pay Wayne's wages and I'm not convinced City would want him under their current director of football. Wouldn't be too surprised if Chelsea were interested but beyond that I can only imagine him going abroad or staying put.

HBadger

Agree0 Disagree0

Why are people obsessed with getting rid of Rooney. the point is he is a top player. and Selling him to another English club is a huge mistake. the truth only Fergie knows his plans for next year. and if Rooney is sold I would be very surprised

Agree2 Disagree0

None, we wouldn't sell to a british rival, BUMBACLARRT

Just read that rooney could be sold if a bid comes in for 20mil on the summer. This is the worst piece of journalism I have ever seen, to be expected from the mail though.
Jakecp1

Believable8 Unbelievable17

With all due respect to RvP I still think that Wayne is the best UTD have. Hope he will play for UTD for many years. And with whom to be replaced? Welbeck maybe? Not a chance. Lewandowski? Great player, but not as a great as Roo. He is all rounder. In the future years I see him playing as AMF. He plays defense, runs like he hot two hearts, full of energy, great shots, runs.

Steppenwolf

Agree3 Disagree0

That's the problem, he has not been full of energy at all!

Maybe he has lost some of that desire and maybe this is just Fergusons way of sparking him into life again. He now knows he's not indispensable and has to work hard at his fitness to get back in.

I'm not bothered either way if we sell him. It will be for the best. We didn't have a choice with Ronaldo and Tevez but if Ferguson thinks he's best moved on then I'm happy with that

Agree0 Disagree0

Could be true though - have been under currents for a while with fergy - couple of years in fact when he refused to sign contract - if he wants to go - let him
