just saw a rumour that united will move for calvalho if the vidal move fails. who would we prefer? I think carvalho would be wiser, with him being younger and we could develop him.

Believable25 Unbelievable17

Carvalho is a good player and if the Vidal deal collapsed then he would be the player I'd want instead.

Agree2 Disagree0

No, we got enough players with 'potential'. If we want to compete we need world class players. The way I see it is if we want players with potential to flourish we nedd to integrate them slowly into a world beating team. that's why we saw how well nani did in the 07/08 team. Barca do the same as we've seen with busquets and pedro

Agree5 Disagree0

I think Vidal would be the wise option for the team this year, we need to get back into the CL and he will have an immediate impact.
However, if Van Gaal sees Strootman as a box to box midfielder then getting Carvallho now and Strootman in the future makes sense.
Either way we need at least 1 additional CM this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

Erm, let me think.

Would you rather Suarez or Gareth Ainsworth?

Agree0 Disagree0

Carvalho is going to be a beast in the mold of yaya(maybe more defensive)and if he goes to arsenal he will be a huge player for them,I'd love him and think he is more the kind of player we need than vidal ,but if it is vidal I'll still be ecstatic

Agree0 Disagree0

I've got a feeling we'll regret it if Carvalho ends up at another Prem team. I'd give Cuadrado a miss and go for Vidal and Carvalho.

Agree5 Disagree0

Brad76 - I think LVG sees strootman as a ball-playing defensive midfielder, Carrick's long term replacement.

Herrera will be the main box-to-box midfielder, although Strootman can cover this role too when needed.

LVG won't buy a cm just for the sake of it, if he can't get one he wants, he won't get one, and the current group should do until January when Strootman will be fit.

Someone like Blind who can cover another role might be possible though.

Agree0 Disagree0

We will not bid or get carvalho

Agree0 Disagree0

Thorne, totally agree with you on Strootman. However he is an adaptable player who could play both roles.
Carvallho I think would be good, Blind would be cheaper option with more adaptability.
You are right, he won't buy for the sake of it which is a big change from the Moyes era

Edgar Davids the new U21 coach? Heard it hear first

Believable4 Unbelievable36

Warren Joyce is the U21 coach.

Agree2 Disagree0

Sydney. Do we just have one U21 Coach these days?

Not to say I expect to See Edgar involved

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect this is the last I'll hear of it as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

Heard here first as nobody else would come up with utter rubbish

Cuadrado's agent is on his way to England. Reports suggest it's for Cuadrado and MU, BUT the agent is also the agent of Cavani, Hazard, Strootman, Miranda, Vertonghen etc etc etc.

Looks like we're in for Hazard.

Agree3 Disagree2

It's for Cuadrado. Seems everything agreed. Let's hope if this is right

Ed(s), there are reports in metro today, (yeah I know) that we have bid for Di Maria. Heard any murmurings?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - It will be from Twitter. Interest but no bid yet. PSG are trying to raise the cash for a couple of major deals and this is one.}

Must be some amount of cash they are trying to raise!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be very surprised if we would pay what RM are asking. Seems very excessive and to be honest, I would prefer to see how this formation gets on with Mata, Rooney and RVP as the front three.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd prefer if we went for Reus.
Can't be more expensive then DiMaria or Cuadrado

Song is heading to Milan on a season long loan deal with a view to buy. Could he be a replacement for a certain Nigel De Jong, perhaps?

Believable8 Unbelievable13

Lets hope not R7.

Agree1 Disagree3

Why so negative Sydney? Would you rather Cleverley be one of our main rotation midfielders or a World Cup finalists who has played for some big teams.

Agree1 Disagree2

I think he would be a good addition

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Syd's negativity stems from the fact that if de Jong is signed, it is likely to be at the expense of a Vidal-type midfield marquee signing, representing somewhat of a stop gap until LvG can be reunited with his bf (Strootman).

I agree with Syd on this one, United need to make a statement of intent this window, de Jong is more than capable of doing a job, but if we are to challenge domestically we need Vidal-type signings.

Agree1 Disagree0

I really hope not as well if De Jong was that good and at the standard we need he would still be playing for city

Agree1 Disagree2

Defensive midfielder who can protect back 3/5 real priority now if we don't get commanding centre back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a fine addition and a fairly cheap stop gap while we wait for strootman. however we could just let fellaini stay til jan instead.

Is strootman really that good? Apart from his age Vidal is far better at everything! And if we start the season with only Evans, smalling and jones as recognised CB's we are well and Truely screwed! None are good enough to be first choice and all very injury prone.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if we don't sign anyone else then we need someone like de jong to add protection to the back three. I personally believe he would do a better job than Carrick or Fletcher (who admittably has been good in pre-season). De jong could even rotate with either of the above. If I remember correctly he left city due to a lack of game time but I could be wrong. City fans I know all lamented his depature the season after.if we get Vidal, benatia etc things could be different but i'm just looking at it from the perspective of what we currently have plus de jong.

Agree2 Disagree0

I have to agree with bookedredmole, I think that United need a central midfielder that can win the ball and isn't afraid to get stuck in, since keane had left we haven't had that and everyone saying that we need Vidal no we don't what United need is solid players that know the premier league and that will get us back into the champions league where we should be not a marquee player who is like players we have and who may not settle straight away, with the formation leg plays we will have 2 central midfielders so what is the point in having 2 attacking central midfielders!! All the best teams have a decent central midfielder that can get stuck in and currently we don't!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sred I see your point and agree but wish to clarity its not that I don't want utd to sign Vidal (who in my view is one of the truly top midfielders at the moment). Its just if we don't sign him then someone like de jong would be a good buy for the reasons I explained before. I wouldn't be adverse to both as it would provide cover and both bring different qualities to the squad.
