Manchester United Rumours
Manchester United club captain Gary Neville will retire at the end of the season because he accepts he can no longer perform at the highest level, Goal.com UK can reveal.

Neville has told friends he does not want to play for another club and would like to take on a coaching role at Old Trafford after he ends his 19-year playing career in the summer.

The 35-year-old has made just four first-team appearances this season and struggled badly last weekend, when he was lucky to escape a red card against West Bromwich Albion as he looked desperately off the pace.

Neville feels his body is giving up on him and would rather retire as a one-club man and a United great than finish his career elsewhere with his best days well behind him.

One option for the right-back is to take over the United reserve team in a similar way to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has just taken the hotseat at Norwegian side Molde after two-and-a-half years on the coaching staff at Old Trafford.

Hi, i live in florence in Italy and regularly watch Fiorentina play. However i am a Man Utd fan.

Stevan Jovetic is a class act. And he would fit united perfectly. Also another player in the serie a linked with united is sanchez of calcio udinese. also a great player. these two could rotate with nani/valencia/cleverley on the wing or in a cam role.

as a united fan i would love to see these two join along with david de gea of atletico.

what do you think guyS?

Sydney

This you again?
Jovetic did a cruciate yet this person Doesn't mention it.

Red Man"""
dear mr red man,
oezil was a cheap option as he was at the end of his contract but he wanted to go to RM. everyone knew that. no one is sure if we actually made a bid.
we also knew that villa wanted to stay in spain. for some reason man united made bids that did not match that of barcelona. why would a team knowing a player wanted to play in his own country bid a lower amount? makes any sense?
the worst was benzema. we were "bidding" and making it very obvious that we were very interested. ngiak is not sure about sydney!'s sources but there were many reports from many sites quoting gill and sir alex saying that we were outbid by quite a bit (if ngiak remembers correctly, with the amounts as well) again after the player signed for RM sir alex went on to say that we were not able to compete.
however the past is the past and we look to the future. these players were never interested in coming to england but somehow we were linked even though we knew we would be outbid and the player would never come.
on one hand it would never be good to have a player who'd rather play for another team. on the other hand, maybe we just can't compete. either way we did not get them and actually we should not get them. so it all works out in the end. . ya?
damn. . barca are good. . :) nice goal by david villa btw

Jovetic plays left wing or second striker, he wouldn't play upfront for us so we wouldn't need Bale, a waste of 30/40 million if not more by Spuds valuation. SHRIMP

@Bare in mind Jovetic would cost around 25m too. 25m well spent imo.

Sydney!

Definitely worth it imo too. Better value than most other targets. But was replying to TBIR in regards to him saying he would like Jovetic and Bale/Sanchez at united. Think its a waste of money because where would we play all 4 of our lw wingers?! (giggs, nani, bale/sanchez, jovetic) Jovetic or Bale imo, Sanchez is overrated. SHRIMP

Manchester United Rumours
Am i the only guy who thinks Bale is over rated? Don't get me wrong he had a good 2010 and i was rather impressed but now he gets likened to Giggs and Messi? I mean WTF guys! His valuation is awful!
I'd pay £40 Million for him once he played well for 3 or 4 years. Now, that's not to say he won't reach his potential all i'm saying is at the moment he is very, very over rated.

I heard today through a mate of mine who apparently has 'connections' that United won't spend for the rest of January, Well not first 11 players anyway.

-The Macheda loan deal is done with a view to a transfer. Shame in my opinion, good potential in the lad.

- The goalkeeping situation is still far from complete, and apparently Sir Alex still doesn't know who's going to be between the sticks come next year, so anyone claiming that we WILL sign De Gea, Adler, Akinfeev, etc are just hoping. Dida is also being mentioned as a back up for Lindegaard as a last resort.

- We're apparently in the market for another Forward due to Welbeck and the others not being ready quite yet. No idea who it will be though.

- Rodwell being signed this year is still fairly unlikely, although a future deal looks 75% certain. Currently, we have Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher and Gibson who can all play in Central midfield. There is no talk of Gibson leaving as he's a useful squad player.

-Finally, and most shocking, Cleverley may be going back out on Loan again next year, depending on how well Valencia Does once returning from Injury (if he's poor then Cleverley will be kept as a LW back up to Park while Nani Continues on the Right. If he's back to his old ways then he'll be going out on loan while Nani retakes his old flank with Park as back up to him.

EDITORS, GAN, ETC, YOUR VIEWS ON THIS MATTER?OH, I'M A NEW POSTER ON THE SITE.

"Why would United even try and buy Villa who was older than our criteria at the time. Especially when we would already have known his preference via his agent. If he wanted to stay in Spain then we were never in the negotiation.

Sounds to me like some are desperate to prove we really were able and trying to spend big when the method is not like our previous method of operation. Normally we know whether the player is interested.

True, it is totally unlike us to bid for a player without knowing his preferences via his agent. Although the Benzema bid was made, it was never proved that we made a bid for Villa. Just another lie to placate fans

@It doesn't matter what anyone says Red you are not going to believe them, but is it really that hard to believe that we signed a 27 year old 30m Berbatov in 2008 but just one season later we couldn't afford Benzema or two years later we couldn't afford Villa?

@Ed so the cash reserves are separate aren't they? Say the 151m cash reserves was mixed into our revenue instead of keeping it separate, us making an 83m loss, we would have in fact made a 68m profit.

-83m + 151m = 66m

Would that be right Ed?

Sydney! {ed's note - no, only the amount that the reserves increased would count towards profits.}

@I think i understand, say the cash reserves stood at 51m from the end of the previous year and went up to 151m, that would mean we would be 100m better off from the previous year? Not 151m better off?

Sydney! {ed's note - yes mate, spot on.}

Manchester United Rumours
@Red say for example we owe 500m and we have 250m in the bank as cash reserves, in total that would mean we are really in 250m debt.

Someone described it to me like this, say you owe the bank £500 but you have £300 in another bank account, you owe £500 but really you are just £200 in debt overall.

I hope that makes sense?

Sydney!

Hi Sydney

Yes but they are not bundled together, on a balance sheet long term loans are on the other side of a balance sheet to positive funds in the bank account. Does the P&L showing a loss contravene the new regulations?

Ed's note - most businesses of any kind operate on an overdraft, it is very unusual to have a balance in the bank, purely because it is taxed.}

Hi Ed

A balance in the bank is taxed? Do you mean the interest earned? There is no tax on cash in bank accounts to my knowledge.

Given interest rates on bank accounts it would probably be in a higher rate deposit or investment of some description.

Actually I can tell you that it is perfectly usual for a business to have a balance in the bank. Whilst at the same time, they may have an agreed overdraft.
The amount in the bank on the close of business eg 30 Jun is what goes into the accounts

Man United did bid for Villa and Benzema:

Man United have targets but if they can't get the player they want they don't do a Man City and get the next best option instead.

For example when we missed out on Benzema in summer 2009, we could have tried to get Huntelaar. The reason we didn't is because we wanted Benzema as he was the target and he chose to go to Real Madrid. Also with Villa we did bid for him that is a known fact.

"""@Red mate, its common knowledge that United equaled Real's bid for Benzema. Its common knowledge that United agreed to pay Kia Joorabchian £25.5m for Tevez. Valencia have said that Barcelona's bid was equaled by another bidder, that bidder being us."""
dear mr sydney!
the common knowledge was where? on this website? said by you? where the gospel truth is always spoken?
ha ha ha ngiak believes you are a very good sales person, arent you?
its actually even more common knowledge that the man united board were moaning that RM's bid was way above ours, and they had stated that they could not match that. for benzema.
and its more common knowledge that man city were willing to part with 40 million and above for tevez in what was a "bidding war" so we were at what? half the valuation? :)
ha ha ha, keep up the good work dear dear sydney!
and yes, ngiak also agrees that these players never wanted to come to man united
why?
because our wages were way below what was offered elsewhere. another common fact?
gan
ps. .and of course now you will not know what ngiak's question was and start another topic.

Sure you would be able to find the link to the presidents comments, however, not much point as even if they did say that it could just as easily be an effort by them to increase the price paid by Barca or Real. We have seen chairmen try to initiate a bidding war with two clubs.

An enquiry as to availability is not an offer. Also these contacts are initiated by agents who say they act on behalf of the club but dont.

An enquiry doesn't prove we have the money to spend.

*you'll find we bid for both. 30 for villa at the 11th hour, and 25 for Benzema.*

Do tell me , if Utd are targeting Sanchez (are we really?) as a frontman , how many frontmen does that give us? Your favourite Berbatov, Rooney, Chico, Macheda, Owen, Bebe, Diouf, plus add on the kids Keane, Petrucci, Cofie and co. Sorry please add on anyone else forgotten.
Why sign another oddjob do anything type of player?

We need to identify the positions we need a player in and buy top quality.

We will be slightly less of a team if we persist with play anywhere types.

You keep saying about Nani, so I will. Nani is not naturally left footed and he needs to play on the right.

Red Man

@By front man i mean someone who will be given a free role to play where he wants in attack. I do not mean playing alongside Rooney in a 4-4-2. You can say whatever you want about Nani but he IS our left sided player and Park & Giggs are our back-ups for that position.

A left winger will not be brought in, especially Gareth Bale who in my opinion will NEVER play for United.

And yes United have been watching Sanchez, as much as you hope they are not. Fergie has admitted in an interview to doing background checks on him, he has also said that he has the potential to be the next Ronaldo. His agent has already confirmed he has been contacted by United. Scouts have been to Udinese on many occasions to watch him. United ARE keeping tabs on him, will they end up buying him? I don't know but they certainly have been tracking him for many years.

Editor, can you confirm United have been keeping tabs on Sanchez? Also do you believe Bale will ever be a United player?

Sydney! {ed's note - it is very common knowledge that United have been keeping tabs on him. I am not sure about Bale, Spurs would want ridiculous sums for him.}

To be fair we are after Rodwell but like i said to the poster (forgotten his name) the other day, we are looking at Rodwell but checking his progress until the summer. He is a really good prospect and if SAF teaches him, he will be great! I think we will go after him in the summer, we need a midfield enforcer! With the right tutoridge he could become a great! Hopefully by what i've been told (could not happen ofcourse but. . . . . . . ) we should have in the summer;

De Gea (great shot stopper and unlike alot of keepers his age. . . really good at commanding his area)

Bale ( in my opinion and im sure alot of peoples is a really good left footed left winger, is doing great at spurs and would do even better at United)

Rodwell (we have a massive chance of getting him, fergie has been tracking his progress for years)!

Sanchez (he is second choice if we don't get Bale)

Benzema (SAF is still a huge admirer of him, this is if we sell Owen which lets be honest he's more injured than not, except for the winner last season against city, textbook Michael Owen)

United Till I Die 1987

@I am pretty sure United are not looking for a left winger bud, I know you like Bale mate but its HIGHLY unlikely he will ever be a United player. Sanchez is not being targeted by United for the left wing position, he is being targeted as a front man, someone who can play anywhere in attack, Nani is our left winger.

ELJERO ELIA WILL REJECT LIVERPOOL FC TARGET IN FAVOUR OF MANCHESTER UNITED

Eljero Elia has revealed that he is keen on a move to Manchester United or Spain rather than joining Liverpool

The Hamburg winger has been linked with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks and sources in Germany recently had Elia's move to Liverpool down as a done deal.

But in an interview with Bild, the Dutchman has revealed that he would "love" to play for United, or either of the Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid.

"I've learned a lot in the Bundesliga, " he said. "I am very grateful to HSV. HSV is also a top team.

"But I would love to play at such a special club like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona or Manchester United. There I can still get better."

A move is unlikely to happen in January, with a summer transfer a more likely scenario.

FC Twente and Manchester United are set to agree a co-operation agreement according to Dutch sources.

The two club have been in talks for a number of months and are now ready to finalise the deal.

United are understood to be looking for a higher profile club to send some of their younger players on loan to.

United have previously used Belgian feeder club Antwerp to send young foreign players to in order for them to gain European status.

However, Antwerp are not top-flight in Belgium, whilst Twente are current Dutch champions and their stature could see higher profile players arrive.

As part of the talks Twente chairman Joop Munsterman and technical director Cees Lok travelled to South America, visiting United-run academies in Brazil, Paraguay and Peru.

i wonder if twente have any good players were after?
