The facts are that we've not renewed Michael Owens contract, Berbatov is on his way out and Will Keane has a bad injury. Sir Alex in the past has always gone with 4 strikers, Rooney, Welbeck and Chicharito leave us one short. So I see us being linked with Lewandowski as a credible rumour.....So why not?
Mitch.

Believable14 Unbelievable10

We've got young who plays through the middle Kagawa,Rooney etc.
Will play more 433 next season !

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie does indeed like going into a season with at least four strikers but what`s to say it is actually lewandowski all the papers are reporting that we have signed a deal with Angelo Henriquez if true he will be the fourth striker imo i don`t think fergie will spend big on a striker that is not gonna play a lot not if rooney`s up top with kagawa behind him

Agree0 Disagree0

Because he would have a large price tag and Dortmund aren't going to sell him after offloading Barrios.

Ruudinthemood

Agree0 Disagree0

Because his club doesn't want to sell he's got a few years on his contract left so we can't afford him, Powell or the other kid we've been linked to at best , i personally don't want a striker signed think we've got players and cover in that area rather spend on another midfielder and left back

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa, more than capable of playing behind a main striker.

Charla

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Macheda. Fergie seems to rate him highly.

Just thought I would keep you up to date. Once again let me reiterate what I have been saying over the last 10 days Modric WILL sign for Man Utd. I have been questioned regarding every post but as everyone can see the Modric stories are gathering pace. Nick Powell to join. Leighton Baines WILL NOT join and neither will Lewandowski. INTHEKNOWATOT

Believable13 Unbelievable10

So he will sign during the Euro tournament when he is in Poland/Ukraine concentrating on playing for his national side.................I think he will join and I want him here BUT come on lets be realistic?.....surely it will be alot longer than that when we see some movement regarding Modric?!.........

lewis.no.9

Agree0 Disagree0

Lewis ... in the know did not say when modric would sign.......

In the Know.... do you know if a LB or DM will be signed or if we are looking at any??

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks INTHEKNOWATWOT

Agree0 Disagree0

@ lewis no.9 i think you have misinterpreted what the original poster was saying. He was reiterating what he has been saying for the last 10 days....NOT that Modric will join within the next 10 days. Like yourself i hope/expect to see movement on the modric front once once the euros are over (although, ironically, that could be in just over 10 days time for modric and his croatian side )

Agree0 Disagree0

Intheknow - do you think we should swap berb and a few quid for mod ? berb up front wouild be unbelievable with mod feeeding in good ball so i for one prays berb stays

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey guys. In answer to some of your questions Modric will sgn on deadline day. Levy does not want Spurs to be seen as rolling over. It might happen a couple of days before earliest. To my knowledge there is no interest in any defensive midfielders that I know of. Nick Powell is definitely going to sign. My friend tells me that Baines will definitely not sign. The only fullback we are strongly interested in signing is some guy called Debuchy but he says that is unlikely. I have stated before that Demba Ba and Huntelaar are being considered should Berbatov leave. Apart from this I cant tell yoj anymore. As soon as I hear moreI will post it here. INTHEKNOWATOT

I did say a few weeks ago we had a bid turned down for Lewandowski, seems we're still in for him.

Rafael honegstein sayswe had a bid knocked back and there is zero chance Dortmund will sell.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm 1/4 polish (grandad flew for the RAF in the war despite being polish) and I would truly love Lewy at utd; however he isnt the finished article yet, neither is hernandez or welbeck, so I fear he would only hinder their progess...Or the more the merrier, one of the 2

OK, now to get back to reality.

REALISTIC targets for the rest of the window, rather than the pie in the sky tales I've read so far on here.

Dembele - £14M
Dempsey - £8M
Diame - Free
Rodallega - Free
Powell - Crewe -£6m

Sorry to dissapoint but after Kagawa, there is no money to spend. Long gone are the days of competing for the best players in the world, we're now a club restricetd to looking for the best we can afford with a very limited budget.

We won't be seeing our trophy for a very long time.

Shutuppp! You have no idea..

We were readying a contract package for Shinji Kagawa while trying to transfer Eden Hazard to United as well. So we clearly have money you funking monkey!

We would not get Dempsey, or Diame, or Rodallega even if he's free, better players to put on our wage bill.

Man utd never competed for the best players in the world. instead players who came to utd and improved became stars eg cantona, schmiechel, ronaldo, nani, keane... OR young players from our academy giggs, beckham, scholes, neville... why don't you write on s****y's site?

Agree0 Disagree0

If you're a United fan, you represent everything that makes other fans hate us, idiots like you really make me mad. United have consistently spent a fair bit of money every year. Whats the point in spending 30mill+ on a player, we rarely do, and berbatov was a big signing and he didnt half as well as what we expected

Just got home from work & reading the Manchester Evening News, they are saying Poland boss says Lewandowski(spelling) is going to United, they also say a deal for Modric is almost done ,as is Kagawa. I am not one to start getting all giddy about stuff like this but if its true roll on next season, as i say i dont usually buy into most transfer rumours but the MEN are usually not far of the mark. Bear in mind Dortmund say he isn't going

Modric is on his way to Old Trafford for a fee around £25 million, rising to £30 million based on appearances and success. Source: The Sun

Polands boss Franciszek Smuda let's slip that striking sensation Robert Lewandowski will be moving to Old Trafford for a final sum of around £15 million following the signing of Shinji Kagawa, but will Borussia Dortmund let another of their star players go to United? Source: Daily Mail

Finally Fergie wants to end this transfer market rampage by landing 2 great signings for Newcastle's Cheick Tiote and Toffee's full-back Leighton Baines but is struggling to match the £20 million valuations on each. Source: The Sun

Believable23 Unbelievable18

I see this £25m with add ons as a realistic and fair price, I know doubters are saying that Spurs turned down £40m last season but that was on deadline day and came from a team that was desperate to get back in the title race. The difference now is that Chelsea with Hazard and City with Nasri and Silva wont be there to inflate the price to what is quite frankly too much.
Mitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Tiote will come to Old Trafford, he likes Newcastle and has more or less said he's going to stay. And besides, he isn't worth 20 million, the only reason he's valued at that is because of Newcastle's good season last year! Asamoah would be a much better bet, and cheaper too. If the Modric and Lewandowski rumors are true, we aren't going to have much cash left over! Id personally like to see Baines signed, I rate him very highly and was probably the best or second best LB in the league this season, if it came down to a choice between Tiote and Baines for 20 mil, i'd take Baines any day!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't usually get excited about signings untill they are announced officially , but if it's in the sun it must be right.

Agree0 Disagree0

So we'll buy Kagawa and Modric(hope not), Lewendowski(hope not),Henriquez,2 attacking midfielders and 2 strikers, Baines a left back and no holding midfielder. 70 million rising to a possible 80 million. I think Kagawa 12m down, M'villa 17m, Willems 10m Henriquez 3m and Cabaye for 18 million 60m down, rising to a possible 70m would be a more balanced way to spend. With Kagawa we will have De-facto 4 strikers. And Willems is younger, cheaper and better than Baines and Cabaye is younger by 6 months, better and cheaper than Modric. The trouble is less discerning fans keep crying out for a "marquee" player, which is tabloid talk for an expensive egoist. When really what counts is the team as a whole, individuals are important in as much as they bring more to the team. If we had the money I would like Gotze, or Erikksen a young quality player that grows into United's ethos and style as he himself improves and refines his talent. A holding midfielder is more important to us then another striker.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope no name isnt being serious about the sun being right. They are far from accurate on many many many rumours. But i honestly dont see it happening. Id rather get martinez, m'vila, or an attacking midfielder like gotze

Daniel

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as i would love to see gotze at united but if this lewendowski rumour is true then there is no way BVB are going to sell him and loose another one of there star players

Lewandowski is set for a move to United the coach says. Hmm...I don't think this summer but possibly in the future.

Believable20 Unbelievable5

He said this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

No he did not, he never gave a time frame at all

Agree0 Disagree0

Regardless, Dortmund said he isn't for sale. Possibly meaning the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well he means this summer because he said he doesn't think any of those three players he mentioned will be at BvB next season. The least likely i see moving is actually Lewandowski! He's just come good for them this season and they don't really have any other prolific strikers so we'd have to offer a lot of money which i don't think we'd do?!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

It was mid interpreted, he was talking about how his players are being linked to clubs and said a few rumours , the press just took those words as opinion instead of what it was

Dustbin

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if he was to come to United it would be now, he's only going to get more expensive. If Fergie thinks he has a chance then he'll take it now!

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need a striker Danny will show his worth and as 4 modric is every1 forgetting about Tom cleverly same player we need a DM player

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't quite put Modric and Cleverley in the same league mate! Yeah Cleverley's good and in 2 years will be a fantastic player, but the injury sustained last season and his over all lack of experience means he's not the glue our midfield needs just yet. With Modric/Kagawa in midfield we can work on upping Carrick's/Fletcher's game and turn them into more defensively minded midfielders.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a creative and a defensive midfielder. Cleverley is in his 24th year, no kid and when he isn't injured he is really average. He played well for 2 games last season, he is no world beater and I would rank him in the 6 - 8 million level.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Asamoah would be a great addition as DM if we were to get both Modric and Lewandowski! Throw in a defender and we're laughing!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Mik, Cleverley is overated, especially on this site although I like him but he is not going to be any better than Nicky Butt or Phil Neville and they both left the club for first team football

Flimbo

Agree0 Disagree0

Flimbo, you will eat those words.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mik, completely clueless as per usual.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney, I use to think you were a short sighted old man who supported Newcastle, or some other United, so awry were your ideas. Cleverley, just isn't going to cut it, to think so is short sighted and delude. You just keep telling yourself our wonderful Manchester United will purr to perfection with Hernandez and Cleverly. We need to have money spent on QUALITY attacking and defensive midfielders. Gotze, Erikksen, even the over rated, but infinity superior to Cleverley, Modric. I think with Danny, Wayne, Kagawa and maybe Keane we can make it up top. If you think The Mexican is a good player, it is clear you were either to young, or to senile to remember Ruud, Eric, Cole. Yorke, Law etc at their best. Hernandez and Cleverley both nearing 24, are clearly way beneath United level,
If you want to have a pop at me do with argument, not just insult. I used to think people asked your advice because you were respected, now I know they were just taking the p**s, you pompous old girl.
Mik {Ed004's Note - You tell him not to insult you, yet you call him a old girl?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Mik, I have watched Cleverley since he was 15 years old and I can tell you now that he will make it at United. The lad is technically very good and can play in numerous positions. He was injured for 3/4 of last season and couldn't get going when he recovered which is understandable seems he was out longer than Valencia was, but preseason and before his injury he was pure class. No one is saying he will be the next Paul Scholes or as good as Luka Modric, but he will be a very good player for us and you will be made to look the clueless fool you are. I wouldn't class 28 as old, would you? Try watching Barcelona Vs United preseason and 2nd half of the Community Shield and tell me Cleverley is "really average". Cretin.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mik, lets not get bitchy with each other, we are both United fans. I just think you have judged Cleverley unfairly, but more importantly too early. Lets have this convo in a years time. I guarantee you your opinion would have changed.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

To think modric is the answer then you most be drunk he as a few good games a year I would be more then happy with cleverly blood him in to the first team with a good DM coming in kagwa can play in the middle n create goals

Lewis.

Believable13 Unbelievable2

You can believe it but why would the poland coach say it? and id rather see the money used more wisely and have a defender come in rather than a striker

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah just heard this from Talksport, I was shocked, he's a good player but what does this mean for Danny Welbeck? let alone chicha who would now be 4th choice behind Rooney, Danny and Lewandowski. It's a wierd dissision if it's true IMO

How many times does it have to be said? NO-ONE has ever offered Spurs £40million for Modric. They were always going to struggle to hold on to him having failed to qualify for CL.

Stuey

Believable20 Unbelievable5

Finally someone speaking some sense. People need to stop reading the newspapers. They know about as much as the majority of regular fans - i.e. NOTHING lol

Mod for around 22-25mil is realistic imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually if you look it up chelsea offered a fraction of just over the £40 million mark, also they managed to hold on to the player last year without cl football, all media have records, both clubs have the records, sky, news now, eurosport, espn & fox to name just a few

Agree0 Disagree0

Eh, no. No offer of anything even approaching 40million was submitteed for Modric by Chelsea or any other team last year, jus because it's on some websites somewhere doesn't make it true. a figure of around the 20 million mark was discussed and the media took it from there in typical sensationalist style.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your well off the mark with £20 mill mark! I'm guessing your a united fan? If so you wouldn't have a clue, what was said, what the papers thought? psg have put in an offer already of £32 million which has been turned down! wishful thinking/dreaming on your behalf

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree completely - Utd should offer 30 + berb to seal the deal. That would bring to 36 million - plenty.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jun 2012 09:42:09
Looks like the Modric rumours are true. £25 million rising possibly to £30 million. I'll be happy with the deal if we buy a tough tackling midfielder as well. A midfield of Kagawa, Modric and someone like M'Vila or Martinez and we will be laughing. Add a quality left back and I'll be absolutely delighted with the summer spending.

Rjmanutd

Believable36 Unbelievable5

I'm sorry but thats just the media making up and filing column spaces! regardless of what tom dick or any other person claim to think what they know, spurs turned down an offer of £40 mill just under a year ago from chelsea (all on record), why would spurs drop the price? esp with four years remaining on his contract? the fee decided is by the selling club not the buying club! I'm sure real madrid didn't choose to spend what they did with ronaldo? just as united won't decide how much modric is sold for! remember carrick, remember berbatov? levy is no fool and certainly hasn't become one over night!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Levy is a fool but that's probably another argument.

We will not be buying a completely new midfield.
Kagawa can ONLY play as a support striker, which means we lose one striker in the line up.
Two sitting MF's behind Kagawa will be Carrick and ANother. I see no sense in playing Modric in that position alongside Carrick. If we're going to pay upwards of £30mil for a player, then he needs to deliver....Modric can not tackle, or win the ball back. He can play nice passes and runs a lot, but he won't be setting up attacks, he'll set up someone else (Kagawa, Nani, Valencia) to set up the goal.
So thats £30mil for what? Clevs could do what we want Modric to do and he'll save us a fortune...oh and be better than Modric cos he can actually tackle.

Not money well spent if buy this guy.

Bob

Agree0 Disagree0

To anonymous^^ because tottenham haven't got into the champions league, and he is desperate to play in that competition.

Sneijder would also be available for 10 or so million less than last year, as again the club hasnt got into the champions league and he has has enough

He will be available for £25mil unless chelsea or city stick their noses in and drive the price up.

This is very true unnamed poster. But you have to remember that Modric has the right to force through the transfer, he may also have been made promises about being able to leave. Levy will not go against these promises. Levy nor Redknapp will tolerate an unhappy player at the club who would significantly lower the tone in the dressing room.

I still don't believe that Levy would turn down £40 million, he is first and foremost a business man. That would of represented exceptionally good business. If you were a club like Totenham, and had a £40 million offer for a player worth just over half that then you would bite off someone's hand for it. The club would be more loathed to lose Bale than Modric and for me that is why the bids around the £30 million mark will be gratefully accepted.

Modric won't go for £40 million this summer. He tried to get a move last season and do you think Spurs will want a player who has tried to leave for 2 consecutive summers? I think Spurs will have given Modric an agreement similar to the one we likely had with Ronaldo. Give us 1 more year and then if you still want to go we won't stan in your way. Plus £25-30 million works out well for both clubs. We are getting a quality player and Spurs need money for a couple of players like a Striker and then a Modric replacement (potentially Badelj)

I'm a spurs fan, I like modric, but you won't purchase him for the said paper quote! levy is no fool, any player sold he got top pound for him, he got his own way over the olympic venue, modric hasn't even come out and said anything as yet! unlike last year when he said he wanted to move to chelsea (btw it was £40mill), he (modric) dug his feet in and so did levy, only deeper & stronger, he (again modric) took it on the chin that he wasn't going to be sold no matter what he said or did! so yes you can force a player to stay just as you can't force a player to leave (bentley, how I wished the bin dippers had beat us to that one!), but lets just say levy gets his way again (basing it on past dealings between clubs) or sir alex gets his wish and pays £25 mill? thats still a waste, a good tidy player, good engine, can pass a ball and CAN tackle, but can't head, can't shoot his assists are shockingly poor.

RedDevil19 - Modric has no right to force through a transfer, he signed a six year contract two years ago and will leave when we allow it. As for Levy not reneging a promise - did you hear about the 'gentleman's agreement' saga last year? Levy will do what is best for the club and if that involves breaking a promise then he will do it. Modric is very professional, and if he is still at spurs when the transfer window ends, then he will get on with it like he did last year. While I agree that 40 million would be good business, I take exception to your assumption that he is only worth half that. Modric is one of the best cm's in the league and don't give me any of this 'He doesn't get goals or assists' bull because you know that's not true. He would be worth every penny. Finally, why are you even discussing that sort of money? You can't afford 30+ with all that glazer debt?
AB {Ed004's Note - You talked a bit of sense the whole way through until you mentioned the "glazer debt" showing you really have no idea about Manchester United's finances *sigh*... I take it you conveniently forgot about the 50+ million we spent last year?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed of course I have no idea about utd's finances, I'm a spurs fan. Does the fact that I chose to believe a commonly-held misconception(?) mean that anything else I said isn't worth anything? While perhaps you have no actualy debt, can a club like utd, with no oil money, really justify spending 18m on kagawa AND 30m+ on modric as well as wages in one transfer window after spending so much money last year? Please tell I'm interested to know {Ed007's Note - Yes it can be justified. Although why it needs to be justified is beyond me. If Utd can afford it, then spend it. We're Man Utd ...... we do what we want..........}

So the media is saying Modric will join United. The deal will be sealed when he gets back from the Euro's. The fee is £25 million rising to £30 million depending on appearances and success. He'll sign a 4 year deal worth £126,000-a-week.

I myself find this hard to believe. It was only last summer that Spurs turned down a £40 million offer from Chelsea... So, why let him go 1 year later for £25 million?

Believable12 Unbelievable18

I tend to agree with this. Levy, the Spurs chairman, has been adamant that Modric will not be sold even for £50 million. Also they have sold Krancjar and do not seem associated with rumours to buy new midfielders?

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa, Modric, Henriquez and Powell.

Although only Kagawa confirmed by the club these all look to be on. A very good transfer window if this is true.

Wonder if there is anyone else on the radar?

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair point, was a bid of 40 million actually made though?, seems a few people on here are doubtful, could have had a similar agreement with Modric that we had with Ronaldo,i.e give us another season and we'll let you go to club that you're wanting to play for?, it was l8 in the last window when Chelsea did apparently make a bid and maybe Spurs felt there wasn't enough time for a replacement?, just a thought.

Charla

Agree0 Disagree0

Could be something to do with their lack of CL football leaving a shortfall that needs filling

Agree0 Disagree0

My understanding is as Charla has suggested - Spurs made a gentlemans agreement where by Modric stayed for one more year, helped them qualify for the Champions League & if he still wanted to leave then they will wish him well.

With Tottenham missing out on the Champions League & Modric entering the most important stage of his career (26 years old) they will be helpless to stop him moving. I do however think the inital fee will be closer to £30 million with add ons - we all know Tottenham drive a hard bargain when selling their best players - ie: Berba & Carrick.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I think it was deadline day when Chelsea made the £40 million bid for Modric last summer, with only a few hours left to go before the transfer window shut.

Don't get me wrong, he would be a decent signing for us I think but when I read about the £25 million fee... it did make me laugh!

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he had a 'gentleman's' agreement with Levy that if Spurs did not get CL football he would be allowed leave at a certain price....could just be tabloid fodder though. Still think M'Vila is a better bet but Modric spraying passes to Valencia, Young, Kagawa & Rooney is also a exciting prospect.

IrishRed

Agree0 Disagree0

Much as I like Modric I think he's overpriced, I'd prefer Mueller.
I'd also like to see a more defensive minded midfielder to cover the back 4. If we are going to make the most of our attacking options a good ball player in the 'Makalele' role would be a good call.
In a dream world Schweinstieger, but that won't happen.

Seeing the number of people on here believe Spurs actually turned down a £40m offer makes me laugh. Complete nonsense. Lets not forget a more sought after and younger Cesc Fabregas went for an initial £25m which could rise to £35m in add-ons, so lets get serious lads and ladies. No one would offer £40m for Modric and Spurs certainly wouldn't have turned it down.

Modric too similar to Kagawa so this does not sound a likely transfer now...sounds like bored journos looking into the bottom of a beer glass and needing a few headlines until the Euros start. {Ed004's Note - Well the club has confirmed the Kagawa bid and we have made enquiries for Modric... Also I hate people saying they are too similar. Modric is like the quarter back of the team and Kagawa is the one he is getting the ball to...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Two completely different players, although Modric can play in an advanced role, he would be signed to play in front of the back four. Kagawa will play in the hole or either side of Rooney when he plays in the hole.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

There hasn't ever been any bid near 40 million for modric so please stop saying why would they acept less for him now

All the papers seem to be reporting that we have finally agreed to sign Angelo Henriquez from Universidad de Chile. Obviously not seen anything apart from a few youtube clips and he looks decent (like they always do on youtube). Personally would have liked fergie to leave it a year and give him a full season in the first team at Universidad de Chile but maybe with the injury to Will Keane it may have forced his hand.

fearny {Ed002's Note - There will be some work to do on a work permit.}

Surely he is classed as to getting the "Special Talent Visa"

fearny {Ed002's Note - Nobody is "classed" in that way. An application needs to be made and the authorities persuaded it is true.}

Apparently Modric will be handed a four-year deal worth £26m. It will be a £25million fee rising to £30m based on appearances and success.

Tiote and Baines next in line for negotiations.

According to BBC Luka Modric has agreed to sign for United. This is what was on the BBC Transfer Rumours page:

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, 26, is on his way to Manchester United with Sir Alex Ferguson offering a £25m fee, rising to £30m based on appearances and success.

Any truth?

Breeno {Ed002's Note - There is a very good chance that a deal may be completed for Modric, but I am not aware of any agreement just yet.}

Wouldn't believe any of the Modric rumors until after the Euros. All the ahem, papers are reporting is that an offer has been made, this definitely doesn't mean anything! I expect the only transfer news to hear in the coming weeks is regarding Asamoah and Powell, considering they aren't on national duties at the Euros!
