* United and Place are in the final stages of agreeing a 18 million deal for Zaha to bring him to Old Trafford Sources Understand talks are being going for weeks now and Now is coming to were a fee is about to be agreed . henceforth Zaha will be loaned back to place until July '; Were he should then pen a five year deal with United !

I think Ł8m would be closer to the mark. There is no way we would pay Ł18m for Zaha.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

Would much rather get Halilovic.

Dan

Agree1 Disagree0

18 million? are you having a laugh! Sydney is closer to the mark at 8m but I wouldnt even pay that, from what I've seen of him he's not as good as the hype

Snakey

Agree1 Disagree0

As a youth prospect yes, but as a starter no. We need much more class someone like Rodriguez, Gaitan or Muniain would do.

-JakeW

Agree1 Disagree0

Ł18 million?! Only a few less than what we paid for RvP! Ridiculous valuations these days, players like Vidal being valued at Ł40 million, Ł20+ million for Wanyama, it's so bad. No wonder Fergie buys who he does in the transfer markett and we're doing ok so people need to stop asking for these big names to come in, half of them are overrated because of their nationality and what team they play for.

Agree1 Disagree1

Dan, Halilovic is a very good player, but he is a kid. He would go straight into our academy if he was to sign permanently. In all honesty it would be too difficult to bring him in and we wouldn't see him in England for two years had we signed him this summer.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree1

Sydney I know what you're saying but with RVP, Rooney, Young, Hernandez and Valencia I don't see the need for someone to come straight into the team. We need someone ready to take over when the time is right and IMO Halilovic will be a better player than Zaha.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Halilovic was an attacking midfielder? Not a winger or striker.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Only sensible deal for Halilovic would be to sign him up and let him stay at Dinamo until he is good enough to go straight into the first team squad.
He will develop a LOT faster over there compared to United

He plays on the first team, not in some kind of junior competition.
He can mature as a human and enjoy his childhood some more in his nativ country.

Jonny8

Agree0 Disagree0

"Ridiculous valuations these days, players like Vidal being valued at Ł40 million, Ł20+ million for Wanyama, it's so bad. No wonder Fergie buys who he does in the transfer markett"... vidal signed for Juve in 2011 for Ł8.5 million, wanyama signed for celtic for Ł900,000 in 2011... just what is SAF doing?, are theses prices not expectable?

Agree1 Disagree0

Syd, Apparently he is most at home on the right side of midfield in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 or as a number 10. All the players above play in those positions except maybe Hernandez but then if he was playing he would just push the others to compete for that place.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Jonny, we did it with Januzaj, Daehli and Pereira when they were younger than Halilovic, I dont see why we couldn't do it with Halilovic at the end of the season. The u21 league is as high a standard as the Croatian league and he would be surrounded by better players and coaches to help his development.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree1

Hey Dan,

Were those three playing for the first team?
We're they playing in the Champions League?
Sorry, but I think it is arrogant and most probably wrong to say our U21 plays at a higher level then Dinamo Zagreb.
Would he even play for the U21 here? Or go back to play in junior teams his own age?
Who was the last player to go straight out of our youth setup into the first team?
Everyone was loaned out, so why not "loan" him to his boyhood club where he is clearly developing great at the moment.
I'm not saying we should not sign him, but we should leave him where he is for quite some time yet.

Jonny8

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate bit I dont think its arrogant at all. Wilson, Daehli, Januzaj and Pereira are among the best players in the world for there position and Daehli would be playing first team football for most teams in the PL let alone Croatia, as would Januzaj and probably Wilson. Whether it is in the CL or not is irrelevant, yes, Halilovic is arguably better but the names mentioned before would still make it into that Zagreb first team as well. Clearly you haven't seen our youth team play and you don't know the kind of level they are at. Loaning him back to Zagreb would be an option but when you look what SAF is doing with Henriquez I see that as unlikely.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Dan,
Please reread my comments.
I never once said they are not brilliant!
I said Halilovic is in a great environment right now, I believe better then he would have in Manchester, considering his age, how we have managed our youth in the last decade and him playing regularly for the first team.
We should we uproot him, when we could have him develop over there probably better?
I'm not saying leave him there until he's 23, but maybe until he is 18.
He'd have some 50 first team appearances by then and could slot straight into the first team, just like Powell. Instead of doing the detours Welbeck and Cleverly had to endure.
Just my believe, I don't need you to agree, but please don't twist my words.

I am excited about our youth coming through and was disappointed to see so little of them so far this season.
Hope we don't ship another batch out without really testing them in the first team.

Jonny8

Agree1 Disagree0

Zaha would cost around 10 - 12m plus add ons that in the fullness of time could bring the final fee to 15 -18m. I like him but where would we play him? The attacking positions are well occupies with our 4 strikers, Valencia, Kagawa, Young,Nani, Wayne,(when he plays deeper) etc. We are more in need of a couple of midfielders like Wanyama and Eriksen, or ideally if we have the readies Fellani and Gotze.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

I've looked again at your post and sorry mate I think I misread it slightly, didnt mean to twist your words up. Nevertheless, I'm not sure it would be better for him to stay at Zagreb too long. look at Henrqiuez, the coaches saw it better for him to stay in the u21 than to go back to mens first team with his Chillean club. We tend to prefer to keep our best youngsters at united than send them on loan. The maybe youngsters are sent on loan but neither Giggs nor Scholes went on loan, they were nurtured straight for the first team through the reserves and youth team. I think the same will happen with Daehli etc.

Ed do you know how much interest we have in Halilovic?
Praying he comes here.

Dan {Ed002's Note - Dinamo Zagreb's Halilovic is attracting the attention of many of Europe's leading side including Real Madrid (who have had an offer turned down), Juventus, Ajax, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal. A move to England in the short term is unlikely due to his age but at some point Manchester City and Manchester United will look to strike a deal that will likely leave him in Croatia a while longer.}

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Perhaps a January deal which lets him stay until the end of the season Ed? Or are we talking about him staying there next season as well? He is only 16 after all. {Ed002's Note - It is rather more complicated than that. He is a child in the eyes of the Rules and moving before he is 18 requires a whole host of issues to be addressed - including where his parents live.}

hope thats the end of the rooney is a CM.
give him and RVp a run of games together and they could be special add a top class cm and it could be very special.

also great game , glad tevez never started
jred

Believable31 Unbelievable2

I do not think anyone on this site wants Rooney in midfield mate. He is best in the hole where he played today. This of course didn't stop him from moving into midfield on several occasions today, but he got into the box more than usual today and that is why he got his goals. He needs to play more positive in future and needs to get as motivated for the less popular games.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

Agreed. I like to think Rooney could drop further back in to midfield as he gets older but the way he played today is perfect for him. If we could get Jones or another solid DM along side Carrick or Cleverley then I dont see why he couldn't play the way he did today in a 4-2-3-1. RVP is always gonna be the main striker though.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as we play with same passion we'll be fine. Great result.
NoMidfield

Agree0 Disagree0

The only player who i think let us down today was valencia, since he has had the number 7 he thinks he is ronaldo! Running into trouble and trying to take everyone on all the time. What used to be so good about him is the fact he never gave the ball away but his decision making at the min is poor.

But that aside rooney should be allowed to play where ever he wants as he can play anywhere and playing with that freedom makes him even better.

With vidic back and almost ready, smalling and jones getting minutes on the pitch and nearly back to full fittness and kagawa almost back we are in good shape to kick on in the league.

Agree2 Disagree0

Syd
i thought people had been saying he had lost his pace and was past his best and that fergy now saw him as a midfielder.
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I can only go with what I have said and Rooney has lost his pace and I believe we have seen the best of him as a striker. That being said I would prefer to see him in the hole than in midfield. I just think the manager has plans to move him into midfield early OR plans to offload him in the summer. I genuinely do think the manager is on the verge of signing Lewandowski and that of course would mean Rooney's future as a striker is in doubt and with his contract talks soon to take place I think we may see him being offloaded in the summer. I would prefer him to stay, but what I want is irrelevant.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

How do you know that rooneys position is in doubt? why not hernandez or welbeck?

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
have you got any kind of inside info that tells you that united are going to sell rooney.
or is it just a case that you like lewandowski as a player and the only way you can see him coming to united is if we sell rooney.

also you said rooney has lost his pace well to be fairhe never looked that slow yesterday, covered the ground very well
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

"Sir Bobby holds both records so that's a great challenge,"
"The guy is a legend and is such a presence around the club. If I could break his record as Manchester United's top goalscorer and maybe even England's. That is such a great incentive.

"I want to play as long as I can and to have shared a dressing room with the likes of Giggsy and Paul Scholes is inspiration to do just that.

"At least another 10 years would be great."

"I can see myself one day moving back into midfield - I can do it - but I'm not ready yet. I'm a centre-forward and I score goals," he said.

"I feel I have plenty of goals left in me. I'll play in midfield if I have to and I have done so at United, but goals are still my main aim and the biggest part of my game."
doesn't really soundlike a player thinking of leaving or playing cm any time soon
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney just chats loads of nonsence most of the time, you know nothing why would we sell Rooney?

Agree0 Disagree0

Like I have said on several occasions Jred, It's my OPINION that I think we may cash-in on him this summer. I have never once said I want to sell Rooney. Just that one way or another his United future will be sorted this summer. I also think what Rooney says to the media is irrelevant. Rooney may well want to stay, but if he goes then I think it will be the club's decision, not his. Hope he stays and we sign Lewandowski, but I have a feeling (just a feeling so don't get your knickers in a twist) that the club could cash-in on him this summer as apposed to giving him a new deal.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
but i see lew as a out and out striker and rvp does that job for us , rooney as well as goals gives us creativity so selling rooney and replacing him with lew doesn't make a lot of sense to me as they are not like for like players.

do you still think fergy sees him as a CM as you said last week , also the issue with " his lost his pace" i thought he looked quicker on sunday could it be that after 2 injuries and illness he is starting to get back to full fitness.
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

The best quality both of them have is that they can turn a game,ť said Ferguson.

That is an important feature. It doesn't really matter if they have a personal combination, it is their ability to finish moves off.

We have a pair of really top players who can finish and change a game.

The strength of our team now is definitely in the forward positions.

We have good alternatives, with Wayne, Shinji (Kagawa), Van Persie, (Danny) Welbeck and (Javier) Hernandes"

it doesn't really sound like fergy is thinking of changing our attack either
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

You just answered your own question jred, Kagawa is a replacement for Rooney in the hole. Even Rvp can play in the hole and Lewandowski as the out and out striker. I do think the manager has been considering playing Rooney in midfield and this season is proof of that. he plays best in the hole IMO, but the manager has had him playing a lot deeper this season. Hopefully the manager will leave him in the hole now as that is his best position. The manager knows that we need a Scholes replacement and I do think he has used this season to see if Rooney could be that player to replace him. RE Rooney's pace, I have made it very clear with what I have said, Rooney has lost his burst of pace that he once had (not saying he is slow), just not as quick as he once was. I also believe we have seen the best of Wayne Rooney. I have no doubt about that.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no way fergy is going drop Rvp deep to accommodate lew
Rooney has been playing deep due to injuries and a lack of creativity in midfield
Kagawa going to replace Rooney well he will have to vastly improve cos he has struggled so far
Rooney is still quick and the burst of pace wasn't his biggest asset
At the moment our attack is scoring goals for fun I would think fergy would be more concerned with other areas of the team.

As for Rooneys best days are behind him well he got his highest tally of goals last season in what most fans would agree isn't our best team and he played in several positions. I wonder how many he would of got with a top clas midfield behind him.

How many goals would lew of scored in that team last year , would he of been happy playing all over the park.
If we bought lew and he scored 34 goals was top scorer in the league like Rooney was I sure you would be raving about him.

Some times people don't appreciate what they have until it's gone , cows and fields and all that
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

I have never once said that I want the club to sell Rooney and I have never said he isn't appreciated.

Kagawa has scored twice and has three assists in eight appearances being played out of position.

None of them were penalties or freekicks I might add.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I just don't see it syd Rooney seems happy at the club has a new kid on the way and I can't see him moving abroad
I can't see why the club would want or need ti sell him
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Moving to Paris would be a breeze, It's an hour flight away and his missus could launch her career over there. Rooney would pocket an extra Ł100k a week and a monster signing on fee. Besides I think what Rooney thinks is irrelevant. I am sure he would prefer to stay, but I think the club would seriously consider a big money offer from PSG if one arrived. I think there is more chance of him staying, but I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him leave this summer. He has two years left on his deal so wouldn't need to up his salary. It is well documented that the manager and Wayne rarely speak. He struggles with fitness and that will get harder as he gets older. Being 27 would mean his valuation would diminish from now onwards every year he is at the club. Rooney selling for Ł50m would of course fund two big signings. It would mean the manager will have a substantial amount to spend on the team in the summer. It is certainly more beneficial to sell him this summer than to sell him at a later date.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

You could say that about any player if psg put money on the plate for any player united would think about it
Would you of cashed in on ferdy at 27 or vidic at 27
Like I said syd I just don't see it.
Also you are aware that it is widely reported Rooney has a 30 mill break in his contract
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Widely reported LOL, nonsense you mean.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Lets see who's right at the end if the season bit like evra last year
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, can you read? I have said that Rooney is more likely to stay than not. I guess you pick and choose what you want to read.

RE Ev, I did expect Ev to be replaced last summer and I believe that was the plan until money ran short and Everton were difficult.

It wasn't just a shock for me as Baines himself expected a bid from United. Clearly we had contacted his agent and laid down the foundations for a move.

And before you mention it was just paper talk, let me remind you of your 'widely reported' comment in an earlier post ;)

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
Baines himself has said it was paper talk Everton said there was no contact
If you don't think Rooney will leave why have you gone in about it for the last month
It sounds to me like your trying to cover all the basses
You have argued a lot of points why he could leave but not one why he could stay
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Baines would have been well aware of United's interest in him via his agent. Obviously he cannot mention his agent so using the media linking him to united would have been his only way of expressing his shock of no United bid coming in. Everton apparently give United two quotes and both were unreasonable. Of course that is just speculation albeit from credible sources.

I have said on many occasions that I believe Rooney will end up staying, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see PSG bid in the summer, I wouldn't be surprised to see us accept the offer and I wouldn't be surprised to see him move to Paris. I just think it's more likely that he will stay.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you still think Brady or Blackett will be Evra's back up this season? Or was I correct in saying that Brady was a stand in just for the tour and that he will go out on loan to Hull this season as a winger? Didn't I say that Blackett isn't ready and will need a couple loans first? I said we would buy a LB, just thought it would end up being Baines. I still think Baines is the player to replace Evra and I think it was the RvP deal that made the Baines move unlikely due to money running out.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

"Sydney", for a person that spends so much time voicing their opinions on a football site, you really know little to nothing about it. Man Utd will not 'cash-in' on Rooney at the end of the season. He will be the beating heart of the side for a few years yet.

Ironically, on this occasion, your opinion is wrong.

It would be interesting to see what ferguson's tactics will be fr the secnon half. Sit back and invite pressure, while waiting to attack on the break? We've been immense in counterattacking so far, but this will give City a chance t get back t the game, or try to control possession and dominate the match?

First time I've seen young Will Hughes from Derby. He looks a skilful, intelligent player for such a young lad. Eds, do you know if ourselves or any other top flight teams have shown any interest in him?

Personally I'd never heard of him until I was watching the Derby/Leeds game, and some of his creative play was excellent.

Fiorentina, Lazio and Arsenal have enquired after Biglia. Anderlecht rejected an approach from Parma last season but I suspect he could well move this winter, and there may well be interest from other Italian clubs.
