Reports in Portuguese press today that united have been at Porto games recently to watch probably Rodriguez but also a 21 yr old french defender called Eliaquim Mangala (haven't seen him play).
Also any eds know if there is any interest in German midfielder Stefan Ainer who plays for Frankfurt? Some german press say that we may be interested.

Supasub {Ed002's Note - Aigner only recently moved to Frankfurt - I am not aware of interest.}

Nice to see Davide Petrucci getting a neat and tidy goal today. Hiopefully Fergie has some faith in him at the start of next season ad he gets some game time.

Believable43 Unbelievable1

Neat and tidy? It was a screamer

Can't see why people think bale isn't good enough for utd, he's now scored 13 league goals, our wingers don't have that many combined, he's a perfect replacement for giggs. Would a bid of 20mil and nani be enough? TRUMORS

Believable33 Unbelievable14

I don't think 30m plus nani would be enough I think more like 50m cash and we sell nani to the highest bidder I think and I know a lot of people will say that's to much money but we could do it and I think he is on par with Ronnie at the same age would love to see us go on a spending spree and sign Bale Wilshere Baines and Luke Shaw going to cost a bit mind but come on Glaziers get the check book out we the fans have put in enough for a real big spend Katef.

You are still classing Bale as a winger? Your post is void on that basis.
Bale is practically a CF as of late, no longer a winger.
PJ

Agree0 Disagree1

He can roam into central areas just like Ronaldo but Bale is absolutely a winger.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly tk-red. TRUMORS

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree PJ, TK sums Bale up.

Bale is no CF. He's versatile (which is a bonus) but he's still best running at people. Much like Ronaldo was touted early on as a CF but plays best roaming in from a wide position. At Spurs Bale is relied upon heavily to get goals due to their lack of firepower but at a top club he would likely play out wide in a 433 or 4231 with a top striker (RVP/Benzema/Messi) in the middle.

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo had won the ballon d'or at Bale's age and scored 40+ goals in a season when he was even younger. To say that Bale is similar to Ronaldo was at 23 is insulting to Ronaldo. {Ed004's Note - Similar style of play. Powerful runner with the ball but that doesn't mean he is as good}

Agree3 Disagree0

I Can say he is on a similar level to Ronaldo at the same age in terms of ability, no player in the world Messi included would win the Ballon d'or at Tottenham or score the amount him and Ronnie do or win the league or champions league one player does not make a team the team make the player I think he may be a year behind compared to were Ronnie was but he has got better each year and this year he is breaking through from a brilliant but eratic player into a brilliant and consistant player who ever signs him next season and he will go cause he is that good will have a player capable of winning personal titels like the Ballon due to there success at winning things with the team Katef.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could you imagine bale and ronnie on either wing feeding rvp and Rooney! Oh dear! Think everyone might forget our centre midfield issues, rio and vidic could get the deckchairs out and play for another ten years, sadly there's more chance of bale and ronnie putting in crosses for falcao and benzema at real next year.

Bit if motd fever to start debate.

Who on here would swap Cleverly for Dembele? Just wondering.

I would not, I think Clevs will develop into a much better player. Dembele flashes hot and cold for me, and gets muscled off the ball to easiliy at times for his size.

Thoughts?

DodgyBanter

Believable24 Unbelievable7

Two completely different types of player and to be fair we need both types at the club. So I wouldn't swap else we would then need to find a Cleverley type player. I would add a Dembele type to what we have already got. Bender, Wanyama, Strootman etc.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dembele muscled almost all our midfielders off the ball when he played us with Fulham and Tottenham but it'd still rather have Cleverley as his way of playing football is generally better.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd swap Cleverley for Forest Gump! Life's like a box of chocolates, yet with Tom it's more like a Caramac! He's good - no better - & we're Man United. Tom = squad player (imo)

Agree0 Disagree0

But yet, he tore through our midfield for Fulham like it wasn't even there. Not saying this proves he belongs at OT, but surely it adds to the 'weak midfield' argument.

RED_SKY

Agree1 Disagree0

Woud have loved for us to get Dembele in the summer but I wouldn't swap them. I'd like both in the squad if anything.

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

I would swap them in a heart beat, cleverly always runs around and looks busy but far too often he passes sideways or backwards. never takes on any responsibility.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind Dembele coming in if Fletcher chose to retire and that would mean Cleverly in our team. And another replacement for Scholes or Powell need step up big time!

Red Samurai!

Agree0 Disagree0

Having both would be great, but if I had to choose one it would be Dembele. He is already one of the best midfielders in the premier league, and he is exactly what we're missing.

But what makes it more difficult, is that although we need a Demele type player, if we lose Cleverley we'll need a Cleverley type player, so we're back to square 1

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

Dembele's performances against us are massively overrated. Cleverley performed very well for us this season and will only get better.

Dembele is a very good dribbler but I don't think he is good enough to play in midfield for one of the best teams in the world. Most of the time he dribbles with the ball past a few players and then doesn't know what to do with it. He is a good player but United fans overrate him massively because they are crazy about getting a new central midfielder.

We need someone to do the "Carrick role" and Dembele can't play that role. Sandro would be an interesting player for us but Tottenham would probably ask for crazy money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dembale is a better player in just about every regard. He runs with the ball with more purpose and skill, passes with more insight, tackles with more venom etc. Cleverley is only 18 months - two years younger and can no longer be considered a kid. We'll only get another 10% out of him at best. OK squad player, but not one of our "stronger"players.

A close source from united coaching staff says united do not have any interest in gareth bale right now. They had it in past but when THE BOY choose otherwise united closed door on that front. Which fergie do to lot many players.
Lot of fans including me would want him replacing gigga on left even if it cost 40m
But that's not on cards at all.
Bad news for me personally.

There's always another player.

Agree0 Disagree0

In my opinion he's not worth it for the money quoted.

There are better alternatives and cheaper ones too.

Singh

Agree0 Disagree0

18m paid for ronaldo at the age of 18 I guess.
So cheap alternatives produce similar players. you need to pay proper money for proper quality. Moreover bale is proved in epl. He is worth 35 to 40m if gaitan or rodriguez is worth 25m in todays market.
Rodio17

Agree1 Disagree0

12 million sterling for Ronaldo.

Supasub

Agree1 Disagree0

Bale is a different type of player to Giggs. Giggs was fluid, Bale is not. I would pick a fluid winger/left forward over Bale. Someone like Rodriguez. Bale is a good player, but very limited against teams that park the bus and many teams do park the bus against United.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree2

Bale is the exact type of player we should go for he is outstanding in every department and is going to get better I could see a frount three of Bale Rooney and RVP totaly destroying other teams he has the same quiltys as Ronaldo and is on par with him at same age 50m would be well spent and cheaper with more longevity than Ronnie would be Katef.

Agree1 Disagree0

This is for you Sydney! how is Bale only a good player in your opinon, I think he is one of the few people in world football that could go on to push Messi for the best player in the world he is the perfect professional improves evey year keeps his head down and is going to show the world what he is and that is a world star Katef.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not fluid syd?
Are you really watching him in this season. AVB has bought best out of him. He is not left winger only anymore.
He has played left. scoed goals nd provide assists. He has played behind the striker and scored goals. he has played on right side and scored goals. He has definatlly same ability as ronaldo at that age.

Helped in defending when its needed to. So if this is not fluid what's fluid in your Eyes?

Rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

Kate, get a grip love. How can you even use him in the same sentence as Messi or Ronaldo. That's pathetic.

Rodio, I take it you are not clued up on the word fluid or the definition of a fluid player. Bale is a kick and run player like Valencia. Rodriguez, Messi, Mata, Hazard are fluid players. He is a top player, but would prefer a fluid player personally.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - Tbf Sydney I think he has changed his style of play a lot recently. He would be a top signing but I think we need a right sided player more and I can't see the funds being there for a lb, 2 cm's, ram and lam + ferguson won't make that many changes in one window}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the only person here who needs to get a grip is you Syd, Bale out of all the players in world football has the ability to get close to Ronnie and Messi I did not say he is as good as either player at present but when he goes to either Barca or Real or US and it will be between the three top teams in the world, he will be even better player and will challenge the top players and he looked very fluid today let me tell you he was every were playing great one twos and scored two good goals he is world class regardless of what you say and if he comes here we should all be gratefull Katef.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004, there is a difference between versatility and fluidity mate. If we want to adopt the style SAF wants then Bale's and Valencia's are not the answer. Moura's, Hazard's, Mata's, Rodriguez' & Isco's, Pedro's, Silva's are the way to go. I am not saying Bale isn't good enough to play for United as he clearly is, I am saying he isn't what United are looking for if they seriously want to go for fluidity in a 4-2-3-1.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - I disagree I feel Bale will be able to play in a fluid formation. We have seen him play centrally and out wide left for Spurs and he has played wide right for Wales a few times as well. The thing with bale is he is a game changer and a player teams will fear. I think he is quite similar to Reus who is a powerful runner with the ball for Dortmund and he is a key player in that team. I just feel bale would easily fit into a fluid formation as his passing is very good and he makes brilliant runs for others to pick out a pass, look at how well him and holtby linked today}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanx for support ed 004
Otherwise syd would wind me up with his excellent vocabulary

Rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

Katef,
how can you say bale is the only player that can get close to ronaldo and messi, there are so many good young players developing out there, for example Neymar whos going to be a very special player

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't say he was the only player capable of reaching the crazy level of Ronnie and Messi I think he is closer than anyone else Naymar may get to that level one day but I think Bale could be there next season if he goes to a bigger club ie us or Real or even Barca personally I think he will end up with us we normaly come up trumps with outstanding home grown talent coming here over anywere else let's hope i'm right and he is as good as I say and he does choose us over another team other wise I think we will all regreat it Katef.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Feb 2013 14:05:28
Kate, Bale will never reach the heights of Ronaldo or Messi, you are being OTT to say the least.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I agree with Syd, Bale will never reach the heights Messy or Ronaldo have reached however he might give us the type of counter attack we were capable of 5 years ago. Yeah he would cost a fortune but personally I miss the Crazy pace Ronaldo injected into the team and I think Bale could bring that pace back again and with RVP could be just as good if not better!
