Tom Cleverly's loan was not until the end of the season SAF said he would speak to Roberto in January to discuss, he said this in his managers press conference.
Since Tom cleverly's injury SAF has spoke about signing a player in January, it could just be a coincidence or he could be in the market for a winger.
What are your thoughts ed? and anyone else?.

Hi all, I was just wondering where people have got their information from that Fergie was planning on buying in January. Last I heard was that there would be no signings, but I have read on here that he has stated otherwise. just wondering where from that's all.

Now, I'm not saying this is true it just seems quite logical from my point of view. We've been looking at Hazard for a while, however from what i've heard and researched Arsenal are prepared to make a deal for him and then loan him back until the summer. Well if well signed Hazard it would take him a while to adapt, He's not cup tied, he's got the potential for sure and if we leave it until the summer then his value would increase by miles. Seems to tick all the boxes in my mind.

As Fergie has stated this "one player" is probably unlikely to have an impact this season, then what is the reason for signing the player now?

It can only be because the player's value is likely to increase by the summer or other clubs are becoming very interested. . or both!

Right, something changed between a couple of weeks ago and now. 2 weeks ago we were not buying in Jan now we are. My guess is that something changed and the player we had in mind for summer has interest from someone else. Interesting that Fergie has chosen to go public. You wonder if that is a subtle request for backing i.e. money?

As to who , its possible that the player is young talented and not at a major club in one of the major european leagues.

Hi this is only my 2nd post on this site but my 1st was Michael Owen Joining Manchester united 2 weeks before it happened. I couldn't see anyone joining us in January but now Valencia is injured and Park is away we need a winger, I personally thought loaning in David Beckham would have been great for the club on the pitch and off in shirt sales and merchandise. It would have only been for 2 months but Valencia and Park would be back by then. So i can see us bringing in either Satris Ninis for £8 million or Alexis Sanchez for £12 million. Either would be a good addition to the squad but would rather Sanchez personally what do you all think? Dan the Devil

Sydney! {ed's note - the plan is to put up a wishlist page, like on the main rumours site, on here, for people to talk about what they want to happen. It is just getting the time to set it up, unfortunately the footie sites have to come second to the ones I make my living from.}

@Ed, I am only joking, i enjoy reading peoples dream signings on here, I just wish they wouldn't pretend they are in the know. But then again if you take this away it maybe make the pages boring. I wouldn't bother changing anything, its a good site as it is.

Ed how is the profitable site going? Are any of the regulars on here in there?

Just heard news from good source from OT that manchester united have been negotiating with Athlectico madrid for months about david de gea and sergio aguero, aguero has just lowered his buy out clause from 55mil to 35mil that's why he signed new contract, they will be heading for old trafford in the summer, forget sanchez or anyone else SERGIO AGUERO wil be man utd's new no.7, owen will be leaving and macheda will be sold if loan goes well. Fergie also wants luka modric to take over from scholes, my source also broke the news on javier hernandez transfer to utd and michael owens when they happened. BELIEVE.

@United are looking to Germany for an attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa, Mario Goetze, Ilkay G?ºndogan have all been scouted, if I am honest I have not seen much of any of them. We know the Bundesliga is the closest league to the Premiership so players will not have to adapt too much.

Ed, any of these tick the boxes for you?

Sydney! {ed's note - I have not seen enough of any of them to judge to be honest. It doesn't make sense to buy from Germany though, it is the most economically stable league, means the players tend to be expensive.}

Japenese CAM Shinji Kagewa, is reportly on Uniteds radar for a reported £12M . The 21 year old has scored 7 goals in 18 appearences for German side Borussia Dortmund. Only rumours at this stage and whether SAF would be interested in signing is still unknown but no one really knows the going ons inside Old Trafford.

We have players like Henderson. Please not him! We need a more attacking midfielder.

Our interest in Henderson was confirmed by Bruce. He is a great all action midfielder. He can also play on the right wing to a great effect (great crosses). He is just 20 years old and showed some great performances for Sunderland and is head and shoulders above someone like Gibson.

He is heavily underrated by United fans. He created the fifth most chances in the premier league. More than any United player.

We need a new player for central midfield, our weakest area of the pitch and it won't be an offensive midfielder, because SAF doesn't field this type of player in the centre (just in the few games we play 4-5-1). If its gonna be a attacking midfielder it will be someone for the wings (Henderson can play there too like mentioned before) but it seems that one of our main targets (Sanchez) won't be available in january and i don't think Fergie will buy a winger just for the sake of it.

Personally i would love to see such a great english talent join us. Two-footed, good passing game, matureness, good technique and reading of the game. Would be a great steal for us even if some would prefer an overrated foreign player.

A move for Adler certainly looks on the cards at the moment, the buy will be made in June for obvious reasons.

As for the 1 January signing, it definitely will be an attacking midfielder. We need a creator that frightens opposition when going forward, assists goals and chips in with goals.

Could it be Alexis Sanchez?

Im sorry but. . . . . . . . .Rodwell yes we are interested! But Andy Carroll NO, he is a decent player who could become very good but nothing more. He is over-rated to the max (because he's English) and would never be at a better team than say Spurs (who in my opinion would be a really good move for him! Although they are after Luis Suarez in a massive way) if he ever came to united i would be more than shocked! !

{Editor Note: SAF has said things like this before and has ended up doing business in the market. Maybe he's wanting to keep a lid on deals so they go through smoothly, or maybe he genuinly isn't looking to sign anyone. And I'm sure he does have money available.}

Sir Alex Ferguson wants to add to his squad in this January transfer window but is concerned that inflated, prohibitive transfer fees will prevent him signing the players he wants.

The Manchester United manager wants to challenge on three fronts in the next five months, seeking to win the Premier League, the Champions League and, starting with Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford on Sunday, the FA Cup.

“I’d like to get one player in during the transfer window if I could, ” he said. “I don’t see it happening really. Normally the player you really want you can’t get because clubs have their own criteria and priorities and also most of the players you’d like are involved in European football.

“We have done it in the past with Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Andy Cole and Louis Saha and they all worked reasonably well. But some deals done in January you don’t get the benefit until a year later like with Vidic and Evra — you face a lot of different things.

“Clubs have different training methods and when you have a player coming in midseason into your club and their training routine might be completely different to yours and you are trying to change them so there is a lot to consider.”

Ideally United would recruit in midfield. There have been persistent reports in Spain that United are interested in Real Madrid's France international Lassana Diarra, available for £14million, but it is understood Ferguson would like a more creative midfield player.

Like many of Europe’s top clubs, United have been monitoring Shinji Kagawa, the Japanese midfielder, who has scored 12 goals in 27 games for the Bundesliga’s runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund this season. Kagawa is at the Asian Cup with Japan this month so if United do decide to pursue their interest, a summer move seems more likely.

The need to recruit is exacerbated by the absence of South Korea international Ji-Sung Park, who could be kept in Qatar for the Asian Cup until Jan 29. Tom Cleverley, who has impressed on loan at Wigan, is out for five weeks with a hamstring injury while striker Federico Macheda has been allowed to go on loan to Sampdoria. Owen Hargreaves’s hamstring problems have forced him to see a specialist in Germany.

The good news for Ferguson, though, is that Antonio Valencia is making good progress towards fitness from his serious ankle injury and could be back in five weeks.

That Ferguson is looking to deepen his squad makes sense if he is as serious about the FA Cup as he claims. He said he was “sick for days” after losing in the third round to Leeds last season and does not want to lose to another of the club’s fiercest rivals this season. “It was a bad performance and that may help us and I’ll certainly be picking my strongest team, no doubt, ” he said.

While United have claimed the trophy 11 times (more than any other club) they have not won it since they beat Millwall 3-0 in 2004. United have been blamed for being the team that most devalued the competition, by withdrawing from the 1999-2000 competition to play in a Fifa World Club Championships in Brazil, but with senior players such as Rio Ferdinand, Edwin van der Sar and Vidic yet to win the tournament, there is added motivation this season.
