So lewandowski has said he hopes to announce a move to his dream club this week

1.) 05 Jun 2013
Lets hope its us but looking more like bayern

2.) 05 Jun 2013
Problem is he is being very tight lipped about who his dream club is. Ed has also said that nothing is settled. He looks odds on to join BM, but we can only hope.

Sydney!

3.) 05 Jun 2013
Why would byern b his dream club. No disrasprct but when players are growing up they never say there dream club is byern

4.) 05 Jun 2013
I agree, very few players grow up saying their dream team is Bayern, Real Madrid perhaps, Barcelona perhaps, Manchester United perhaps ( weather permitting ). Doubt he's coming to us but not the end of the world if he doesn't.

Ali mate, you clearly didn't grow up in Germany. Bayern have a huge following, and not just in Germany.

6.) 05 Jun 2013
Wasn't it reported a few months ago that he was willing to snub Bayern for a dream move to United? Was probably an inaccurate report but makes you wonder.

7.) 05 Jun 2013
It probably is lost in translation, but can you imagine a player saying this for joining a rival team in the same division?

8.) 05 Jun 2013
It's great suspense really - and would we be upset with the following?
Lewy
Garay
Strootman
Baines

But we really want
Ronaldo
Bale
Fabergas
Modric

Ha!

The first four seem like Moyes players - if you know what I mean (Harry)

9.) 05 Jun 2013
He is going to Chelsea

10.) 05 Jun 2013
Shappy - Lewandowski didn't grow up in Germany either - although being from Poland - I would not be surprised if Bayern was his dream club.

11.) 05 Jun 2013
Shappy- I never said they didn't mate my opinion is why would moving to Bayern b a dream move from a player who was playing in poland a few years ago.

And when DREAM MOVE comes to mind I don't think anyone would think Bayern.

Although I agree Bayern are a great and big team just a little odd to me

12.) 05 Jun 2013
Bayern are the biggest club in Germany, ans are currently the Champions league holders, they have a star studded squad and play great football. They blew Barca away 7-0 over two legs, and they are just about to be taken over by Pep. They will pay him top wages, and enable him to win things consistantly on the biggest stage. Plus being from Poland, Germany is a much better cultural fit than any other major league in europe.

Also because of the huge number of polish players plying their trade in Germany, there are a lot of polish fans of German clubs. So there is no reason why moving to the current best team in europe should be anything other than a dream move.

13.) 05 Jun 2013
I'm with Shappy, I would have thought growing up in Poland - Bayern would be every bit the dream move (if not more so than United)!

They're a huge club with a massive following and currently one of the best sides in the world, not to mention the geographical link with his homeland.

Ali G perhaps you could explain your reasoning because I don't follow your logic?

14.) 06 Jun 2013
Can't imagine that with Rooney looking ever more likely to stay alongside RvP, Welbz and Chica that'd we'd sign another striker who'd expect to start every week.

15.) 06 Jun 2013
After seeing some of the tackles he made against some Bayern players and some of the needless aggro he displayed to some of them in the final, I don't think he' Bayern-bound. Don't forget his national coach a few months ago actually came out and said "he's off to Manchester United" (or words to that effect).

On a completly different subject wasn't it you who was slating Evra and wanted rid of him?

Think you'll have to agree his form last season was very good.

K-Stand Red {Ed004's Note - Not really he scored a few goals but at times he was still shocking defensively and the weak link in our team}

17.) 06 Jun 2013

He's been Fergie's 1st choice since he was signed and played well last season in a League winning team. To say he was shocking defensively makes you look studpid. Then again you seem to know it all don't you and Fergie who signed him and kept faith in him. well what does he know!

K-Stand Red {Ed004's Note - How do I seem to know it all? You are the one getting aggressive when people disagree with your opinions as if you word is worth more than others. I reckon you should wind your neck in as the majority of the people on this site feel Evra has been a liability at times defensively. Also suppose this is the same Ferguson that tried to replace him in the past few windows, izaguirre and Baines spring to mind}

18.) 06 Jun 2013
Bayern aren't really a dream club, they may be for current 10 year olds, they certainly weren't 10-15 years ago (when these so called dreams would have been dreamt), yes they have amassed a great team but that is because they are by far the biggest team in Germany and they have the largest popoulation/economy of any major footballing country. Do people born in Glasgow dream of playing for big teams in England, doubt it, it would be Rangers or Celtic 99% of the time so who cares if Poland is next to Germany?

German football isn't exactly exciting and until recently there were only a few real superstars playing in the Budesliga. France is currently where Germany was 10 years ago in my opinion, so saying Lewandowski dreamt of playing for PSG, Lyon or Monaco is either bull or he has messed up dreams. A dream club when he was growing up would have to be Utd, Madrid, AC Milan, maybe Barcelona, Ajax or even Legia Warsaw! Poor kid if it was Bayern but I hate all this dream club, kissing the badge rubbish, all these mind games are a waste of time, either say what is happening or shut up, even the managers are up to it now.

How was I being agressive?
Telling people to wind there neck seems agressive to me but then again i'm not really going to let a silly comment like that upset me. I don't believe my view is any more important than yours or anyone elses for that matter. Just think although Evra might not be the best left-back in the world he had a fairly good season last season and deserves more of a fair chance from people. As for Fergie trying to replace him I assume he told you that himself did he? If Fergie wants rid of somebody they don't then go on to play 34 games the following season.

K-Stand Red {Ed004's Note - "To say he was shocking defensively makes you look studpid. Then again you seem to know it all don't you". In what way can that not be seen as condescending and offensive? You obviously feel your opinion is more valid if you have the cheek to call another poster stupid for having a different opinion and that same person has been editing the site for years now and will have read many if not most posters state they want Evra sold. No but saying as though he has bid for left backs over past few years it implies he has looked to replace Evra. It is pretty well known Evra is a big character in the changing room so that's a possible reason he has not been sold}

20.) 06 Jun 2013
Ed04
Didn't realise my comment would upset you so much, after all you have been doing this for years. You still can't bring yourself to say he had decent season though can you? Instead the reason for him still being at the club is because he's a big character in the dressing room! If we pick our team on big characters why don't we sign Scrappy doo!
Big characters get sold regardless. Keane springs to mind.

K-Stand Red {Ed004's Note - Your comments came across as you being an arrogant and condescending poster which frankly the site doesn't need. So he had a decent offensive season that doesn't excuse how poor defensively he was. That's exactly why he is still here IMO you have to have the right atmosphere in the back ground and its pretty obvious Evra is a big character in the back ground. It's the same reason Scholes, Giggs etc will be kept in and around the club when they retire. He sets an example for the youngsters. So you can tell me honestly now Evra is not a liability defensively at the back? Now think before you answer and think what a left backs primary role should be?}

21.) 06 Jun 2013
Ed04
I honestly don't think he is a liability however I will grant you he's is better going forward than defensively. I also think he's been the best left back in the prem for quite a few season in his time here, the season before last excluded. I completely agree with the big characters thing but my point is that although we want the right people at the club and in the dressing room they will not necessarily get in the team every week, like Evra, unless they are good enough to do so.

k-Stand Red {Ed004's Note - He was world class a few years ago and no doubt the best in the league then but recently (past few seasons) his legs are beginning to go and he can't continue to offer as much in attack and therefore doesn't make up for his defensive liabilities at times}

22.) 06 Jun 2013
I wholeheartedly agree with K-Stand Red's views here. Evra played 34 times last year, 37 times in 2011/12, 34 times again in 2010/2011 and another 37 times in 2009/2010. Not to mention the 28 times 08/09 and 33 times in 07/08; he clearly is a firm favourite of Fergie’s. If he wasn’t then I guarantee he would not have played that many times each season. Coupling that with the sheer amount of trophies he has won during that period, together with him being appointed captain on numerous occasions, I would submit that he has been a vital component for Utd during every single one of those campaigns.

Every players goes through periods when they are out-of-form and yes, sometimes his defending can be slightly suspect. However, when you compare that to his all-round play, his general consistency (e. g. not injury prone) and the extra string that he adds to our attacking bow, there are not many left backs around who can boast a better record than him. I think his small defensive lapses need to be proportionately measured against what he adds going forward.

The fact is Evra is now 32. He is not getting any younger and managers worldwide are always looking to invest in players to add to the squad depth – focusing particularly on youth. Izaguirre is 5 years younger than Evra, and Baines is 4 years younger. The reason why Baines did not join is that he knew he would be playing second fiddle to Evra, as he has made that position his own. He would always be an understudy to Evra and was probably too expensive to be bought for that back-up position – hence why we have gone for someone with potential, who is young and was cheap in Buttner. As we know, Izaguirre is injury prone.

When considering the amount that Evra has given to Utd over the past 8 years, I think he deserves to be treated with a little bit more respect from the so-called “Utd fans”, rather than them asking for him to be sold. I think people need to wake up and realise that they are just armchair critics! We all are! Therefore, who are we to question the professionals that have run our club so successfully over the last two decades!

Good point well made. We're a highly critical bunch us football fans but if Fergie deems Evra good enough to play left-back then that's good enough for me!

24.) 06 Jun 2013
Evra has been one of our best players for years. People that think he hasn't been as good recently need to think about who plays in front of him, players like Young, Welbeck, Nani, Rooney are either not good enough or out of position. He has looked vunerable defensively at times but that is because he isn't as quick anymore and he lacks the support. Buttner and Fabio are decent enough back up, so we should be strengthening elswhere at the minute. Like in front of Evra!

He attacks and that is what we need at Utd not defensive minded full backs otherwise it gets even more boring.

25.) 06 Jun 2013
Forget all this evra stuff, I can't believe that people are questioning whether/why bayern munich would be a dream move for any player. 5 european cups, incredible support etc, and for many people who don't live on these shores, whether polish (like myself), german, eastern european, spanish, italian south american etc, they are a bigger deal than man utd.
Specifically Sween, saying that 10-15 years ago they CERTAINLY wouldn't have been a dream club is a ridiculous statement. look at their history, from the late 60s right through to the present day, they have always been a force in german and european football.
Personally I have and will always consider the 4 biggest clubs in european football to be us, real, barca and them. In fact, before one fateful night in barcelona 10-15 years ago, I certainly dreamed of playing for them (as well as Manchester United and oxford utd).
and that comparison with bayern and psg, lyon and monaco is "bull" (to borrow a phrase). German football has always been better than french and bayern have always been bigger than those 3 clubs mentioned

Despite the name, maybe k stand or Salford red do not actually watch Evra closely enough. I fully appreciate what Evra has done over the years but he just doesn't cut it any more for us! And maybe it does come down to age. You speak about no support on the left but that hasn't changed much in tqhe last few yrs. He does offer options going forward but primarily he is a defender and not only is he slow getting back but I have watched him on numerous occasions this season just stand there and let players drift past him. Not even during counter attacks. Maybe you aren't watching closely enough or are having to many pre-match singhas!

27.) 07 Jun 2013
Got to say one thing about this lewy debate. Why would a player who is loved by dortmund fans and hasn't been treated badly, say their biggest rivals are his dream club? I know the example of Ronaldo is one but I think it differs as Madrid are not in England. I just cannot see how any man with any respect could say this after being treated so well.

We also know Dortmund DO NOT want to sell to Bayern. I think a bid of 20m would be accepted from anyone else ahead of a 25m bid from Bayern.

Lets hope my points are true and Lewy is on his way. I think we would walk the Prem next year with the two best strikers in the league and Europe would fear us yet again.

In order to narrow the issues between us all, is there a left back out there who is available right now, financially viable and who is better than Evra?

I am a big fan of Evra. He has had his moments and occasional lapses. But I'd rather have him than not. There aren't many better. Was Roberto Carlos a great defender (defender in the literal sense of the word. ) - no not really. Cafu? no really. Sometimes you need more than a 'stopper' especially with some of the formations we use.

Yes, lots of people here give Evra a hard time, but that doesn't mean there aren't lots of readers that disagree.

Great site, great opinions, great discussion and great arguments. Keep it up.

Shall we talk about nani next ;).
