For the supposed best keeper in the world Neuer made a bit of a howler. How he ended up in no mans land I will never know, it wasn't a differcult ball to judge. And he certainly wasn't very authoritive in when balls were coming into the box.

It has got me thinking, how many Goalkeepers come for crosses now? I can't think of any keeper who you'd bet your house on for coming and getting a cross with real autority.

Maybe keepers are taught that with modern footballs that its best to stay on your line?

Neuer was just as bad as anything i've seen from De Gea on corners since De Gea joined and this is against arsenal, maybe this was just a blip but it really strengthens my faith in De Gea.

Shappy - I believe coming for balls is more of a British thing due to how physical it is in the box and team seem to cross more in Britain too. You look at Spanish or German football and they seem to predominantly play on the floor and the ref gives fouls if you blow on anyone especially the keeper it is why I think British teams struggle more nowadays as the refereeing in Europe is pathetic to say the least.

Shappy,

This is a good point which I've tried to make in the past - if you watch most of the world's most accomplished keepers, not that many of them come for crosses unless they are 100% gettable. Whether this is wrong or right, tha art of goal keeping is changing and we need to keep this in mind.
