I have been visiting this site for such a long time but can't understand why people here underrate Rooney so much.
Yes he has asked for transfer and he is wrong for it. But it is true that his contribution is going unseen.
Upto last year fans used 2 carry posters of "Rooney : The white Pele" "Wazza the hero " "Wayne Rooney" and many other 2 support Rooney. But Now just because we have signed RVP, Rooney is not noticed. Fans this season carried posters such as "Ohhh Robin Van Persie", "He scores when he wants " and others.
How would a player feel if the fans who used to chant his name start chanting another player name. I mean how could we forget a players contribution for past 10 years just because of a new guy's single year contribution.
Personaly I would be devastated.
And the biggest thing I can't understand is that fans here value him under 30m£.
Really!I mean how many strikers have u people seen who runs 100 yards 2 support his defence and again runs with his breathe out 2 boost the attack. How many have u seen a player versatile as Rooney. I haven't seen a player who plays as a striker, LW, RW, CM, even DM. except this guy. How many of u except 2 watch such an amazing bicycle kick as wazza and that amazing pass as RVP 2nd goal against Aston Villa (goal of the season). by another player. I value him no less then 50m£.
U people may judge him by the no. of times he looses the ball or weight of his body, but I judge him by his dedication, hardwork, sacrifice and passion for his team. For me he is our hero. I want him 2 stay. and even he doesn't I will support him. And as No player is big as club. Manchester United comes 1st for me. But my best wishes are with Wazza.

Agree totally, and when he goes to Chelsea and plays us off the park, we'll soon realize what we've missed. He's played out of position all the time.
Also, if u see the way rvp always congratulates him on his assists etc, you realize how appreciated he is by the players.
Saf made a total cock up of not buying a midfielder and compensated by moving Rooney back. Let's play him where he belongs and see what happens.
Also, when rvp was going thru Hus barren run, Rooney scored some important goals for us.
So let's stop this hate campaign.

Finally someone who sees the positive side of things. Rvp is brilliant and has had a wonderful for us but Rooney can still be a integral part of the team.

For a year or two he might be, but he is declining. He has lost his pace, I have never seen a player get it back once lost. He has a bad attitude, he doesn't look after his body and he doesn't care. He expects to be playing every game regardless of how bad his form is. And instead of cutting down on the fags drinking and fatty foods and train harder and keep himself in shape to win his place back he decides to quit and go somewhere else. He will never replicate the form of a few years ago for us. If he goes to Chelsea I would laugh at history repeating its self Shevchenko, Torres and to a certain extent Crespo. All strikers Abramovic wanted all over the hill and all expensive mistakes. Could Wayne Rooney be added to that list? Also Chelsea are one of our biggest threats in signing Lewandowski, if they sign Rooney then it should make it easier for us to sign Lewandowski. Would you rather we keep a declining Rooney and Chelsea sign Lewandowski a player who could seriously replace Drogba at Chelsea or would you rather them get our cast offs and we sign the cream of the crop?

He isn't a legend and how can u mention him in the same bracket as Scholes. A player that's handed in two requests to get more money isn't a legend. he's been a good player for us sometimes great. But his attitude towards fitness is not good at all. Scholses always put united before him, he still is under rated by some people. which is quite strange. If rooney stays and apologises for th request and puts his head down, works on his fitness and fights for his place in the starting 11 then maybe in few years time. He might be considered as great player. The word legend is used too common now a days.

Snappy you say he's on his way down.

He's had injuries this year, been played out of position etc. With other players they are getting back to their best or coming back from injury.

I completely agree with the original poster and think youraking statements based on 1 poor season. I seem to remember the 'legends' giggs and scholes had poor seasons before.

He's had a poor season due to his lack of fitness, he hasn't had too many injuries this season. But the ones he's had have come from him not being fit enough.

A 27yo shouldn't be struggling with fitness. He has lost his pace and he won't get that back.

The reason he has had a disjointed season and been shifted from position to position is because he can't hold down a role in anyone of them. RvP is a better and more consistant striker than him, he also doesn't abondon his position up front if he doesn't recieve the ball for more than three minutes like Rooney does. The biggest difference RvP has made this year is by us having a dangerous striker playing up front all the time it pushes other teams further back. When Rooney plays as a striker he drops deep looking for the ball allowing teams to push up against us and thus pressure our midfield.

When he plays in the hole he doesn't have the inventfulness or the consisitancy of passing to be a constant threat. He gives the ball away too much and has a poor first touch. Ultimately Kagawa is better in the hole than Rooney.

He hasn't got the pace to play wide anymore and can't beat a man with skill.

He isn't a midfielder and can't play that role against the best teams.

So he isn't good enough in midfield, can't play wide and has RvP and Kagawa ahead of him as a striker or in the hole.

So he was forced with the option of either rise to the challenge of fighting for his place or move on to another club. He made his choice when he walked into Sir Alex's office three weeks ago. Now we need to sell him and move on. He hasn't got the right mentality to be a United player even if he still has the talent. {Ed004's Note - Agreed with everything you said there. As long as we use the funds from Nani and Rooney to fund two big name players that suit a 4231 we will be sorted out front next season as the cover in Hernandez (possibly Lewandowski), Welbeck, Valencia, Zaha and possibly Young is very good. Then all we need to do is address midfield and left back}
