I honestly think that, at the end of next season, pundits and fans alike will point to summer 2013 as the turning point in Manchester United's fortunes.

The biggest summer ever - losing SAF, having just won the title back from our bitter rivals, City. New manager, bags of pressure and an aging squad that badly needed a few fresh faces.

Our appalling transfer window will be our undoing. Money needed to be spent, and pennies were pinched until we were forced into a desperation buy at the last minute.

January is never a good time to do business, and do you honestly see us spending the required money in the summer - with a World Cup Premium added onto the cost of any transfer targets? It's going to be a tricky window to do business.

Must be so good being so optimistic about life mate ;)

When Moyes was hired a lot of us saw it as a statement of the club's lack of ambition. We had an ageing team with a few glaring holes that was flattering to deceive under a great manager. We needed a new manager with ambition to challenge the best in Europe, and manager who would press the owners to make the large scale investments needed to propel us to a new successful era.

Instead we got a manager who had done nothing to deserve a top job, was used to working on a shoestring, and wouldn't dare pushing the owners to spend big. The summer our new CEO set out his stall, pursuing sponsorship deal after sponsorship deal without investing a penny until the very last second. By that stage we signed Fellaini, a squad player, for an unbelievably inflated fee in a desperate attempt to save face.

Moyes is incapable of changing his tactics and we lack the players needed to match the best sides. But I can't see us bringing in top quality players in January or in the summer. The Glazers are interested in commercial profits and won't splash the cash, Moyes can't demand money because he knows he doesn't deserve to be there in the first place, and soon enough top quality players won't want to join us because we won't be able to guarantee trophies.

SAF retiring was always going to be a challenge, but the club has completely failed to rise to this challenge and shown an astonishing lack of ambition. The club still likes to talk big, but are no longer acting or playing like a big club.

You know me, mate.
Just a long-term projection, that's all. Let's hope it's as off the mark as my last prediction!

"The club still likes to talk big, but are no longer acting or playing like a big club."

Liked this quote mate.
Sums it up nicely. All we get of late is big talk, first from Gill, now from Woodward. 'Manchester United will always be in the market for the best players' and the rest.

It's one thing to show an interest, quite another to make the signing. So we will always be 'in the market', but whether we're in that market with true intent is another matter.

This summer is going to be so hard to sign quality players, it's unreal. We've got a daunting task ahead to strengthen this squad over the next 2 windows.
