I know they weren't the strongest opposition but there were some basics delivered last night. 2 central midfielders who can pick a pass, 2 wingers with pace, 2 forwards who can score. Sadly, too often we arse around with what is a simple formula. To play Mata (or Kagawa) we stick him on the wing, he drifts around and we lose width. Whatever formation is used, we need to pick players who are comfortable in the required positions.

On a different note, hats off to Valencia who got battered but never took a step back. It would have been very easy for him to go off but he dug in and laughed on. And the enigma that is Welbeck. 1 minute falling over he own feet, the next minute causing havoc in the defence. I've not been he biggest fan but there is a very good player in there trying to get out.

That description of Welbeck - 'there is a very good player in there trying to get out' - is spot-on, never heard him be so well-described. Bless him, he wants to be a legend but I just don't think he ever will.
