There is a major problem with the lack of Black Managers in the league, whether it is casual racism or more overt than that I don’t know. However, Yorke plays the race card when he has done nothing to suggest he should get a big job. I know Lampard and Gerrard have started at a good level but the discipline they showed through their careers will have helped. Yorke’s ‘style’ will worry people - does he have the intellect, the discipline, the work ethic required. To blame the colour of hiis skin is a cheap shot.

{Ed001's Note - exactly and makes it harder for a genuine black man/woman who has been discriminated against.}

There are obvious issues with the lack of ethic diversity in top level management. But Yorke is lumping that in with the broader issue of former top level players feeling that they’re entitled to walk into a top job on the basis of their playing career. I thought it was outrageous when Giggs claimed that he wouldn’t manage at a lower division. Management necessitates a completely different skill set that has to be developed, and top level management positions are earned.

{Ed001's Note - spot on.}
