With Ajax turning down an £80m-ish improved bud from us for Antony this afternoon, I'd be interested to see which option people would prefer now:

1) Pay £85m for Antony and sign nobody else

2) Walk away from Antony and spend the money on Gakpo (£40m), Depay (£10m) and Dest (£20m) .

In my opinion, aside from the imminent signing of Dubravka on loan from Newcastle, the above options are the only left on the table in the coming week.

Depay and Dest don't improve us IMO but obviously add a little depth. It's a fair fee for Gapko however who is able to play left or centrally so a useful player. Would be interested in seeing Antony but I reckon the second option helps us most.

I would 100% walk away from the Anthony deal. He’s unproven anywhere outside of Holland. And there are players in the Dutch league that had better stats than him last year and have been sold for a fraction of the cost. Not worth anything near the value being offered.

The price tag would potentially ruin his career. The press would be on him whenever he was anything less than world class.

I guess now we know why we never really bid for the guy who went to liverpool. Looks like fdj and anthony were the 2 big signings we planned for.

How could we possibly go back and ask barcelona to sell us Depay! Talk about bending over and asking them to take us up the arse! we've spent 3 months trying sign De Jong and they managed to get him to forget about 17m they owed in wages and take a paycut, don't get me wrong fair play to Barcelona but they had a cracking transfer window, sending our clowns over now looking for Depay jez that would be an embarrassment! Go get gokpo by all means if possible forget about Depay! We nee another CF first in the next 6 days, in my humble opinion! 2 games a week all season apart from world cup, our squad is very very limited, any injuries were screwed at present.

DeJong hasn't accepted the paycut and debt forgiveness yet, although lots of reports that this is close to agreement.
Maybe United should be doing the same with some of its players ?.
