Just read an article saying that Phelan is likely to be let go, but also Meulensteen which is concerning. Especially since the replacements are likely to be Phil Neville and David Weir. Meulensteen is the best tactician we have, please don't let him go or we really might be in trouble next season.

Yeh agreed. Phelan I'm not bothered about but Rene has to stay.

Phelan can go, never seen him do anything next to Fergy the whole time, or at least put him back into coaching.

Also just seen this on various websites phelan and meulensteen are on there way out aswell as fergies brother retiring as chief scout

4.) 10 May 2013
I think Jim Lawlor will become Chief Scout. But we really do need Meulensteen to stay. I mean, I really don't think David Weir will be particularly good in attractive tactics.

Phil Neville assistant

Would hate to see Meulensteen at another club, widely regarded as the best in the business.

For there to be a smooth handover need a mixture of old staff and new staff

7.) 10 May 2013
Wouldn't be surprised if Fergie's sorted it for them all to stay.

Imo there won't be many staff changes. That was the point of signing Moyes. I think the only change in staff I see is who will be his assistant manager. Rene will be safe as first team coach, he has reveloutionised our training both in the academy and in the first team. I would imagin he is safe. Phelan will probably be out or have to find another role within the club. I hope Moyes gets a good tactical no. 2. He appears to have had yes men in before or at least people on the same wave length so they don't disagree.

For me his only weakness is europe, so I hope he brings in someone who has european experiance as his no. 2 who has a more attack minded instincts with his tactics. So as to give the team a more balanced managing team.

The key to management is recognising you weaknesses and bringing in people who's strengths are your weaknesses.

I wonder where the advice and support will come for a manager with little or no European experience and similarly in terms of winning things and the pressures which go with beings in finals. Willing to give Moyes a chance but there needs to be some consistency of support from those that have been there. It is not like a manager coming into a mid table club and bringing wholesale change of staff in support of an ego.

12.) 10 May 2013
I personally think ink that that was one of the attractions of Moyes. United are a family club and consistency is imperative, hence there won't be many staff changes. It would be a massive gamble by Moyes as obviously the structure is in place. Mourinho would undoubtably brought all his men in, thus upsetting the structure of the club. Placing Moyes (arguably a young version of Sir Alex) and keeping the majority of coaching staff is a very shrewd move and could pay off for many years.

I think a lot of people are reading into this "european experience" issue. We have been pretty average in Europe for a while and teams who have little or no european pedigree (and their managers) have been doing well over the years. I think it would be good to have a different game plan than the same old boring approach (too much respect to average opposition) and half the time these teams we play in the group stages are like mid-table/lower level prem teams so it's not too different. Football is pretty much the same throughout Europe now and it's not hard to study a teams strengths and weaknesses. The prep work going into a Madrid and Chelsea match would be no different to a Stoke & Olympiakos game - and neither would the way we play.

Moyes will be perfectly fine on that front and besides that's why you have good staff and experienced professionals at the club. All is rosey if you ask me.

I'm confident Mike and Rene will both still be here next season as its a bit unfair if that when Fergie retires he also loses them their jobs, I reckon he's said to Moyes they're staying. No doubt about that.
