Hi ed002, according to the mirror united have agreed the 37 mil buy out clause with sporting Lisbon for William carvalho. Could you shed any light on this, thanks

{Ed002's Note - As you know, Manchester United cannot force Sporting to sell the player for his €45M release clause but Sporting have insisted that is the minimum price he would be sold for so there seems little room for negotiation. There is interest in him from a number of clubs still and there have been recent approaches by Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. Sporting would ideally like to keep him a year or two more. The asking price will likely beyond what Arsenal would want to pay and I suspect Manchester United would also baulk at that price unless they see an impending bid from Manchester City. Atletico and Inter would look for a different solution financially. Jorge Mendes was in Manchester in late January to talk to the club about him and was in the UK last week talking to another club about two players. Whether or not he met with Manchester United or not I don't know. At best I would think they have told him that they would like to take the player and would like to sit down with Sporting and him to see if a deal can be done - but they know the price. At this time it is conjecture and I would bery much doubt anything is signed - but suspect the the club has agreed to pay the full amount in order to fend off a bid from Manchester City.}

Wow! That's a lot of money for someone yet untested even in the Portuguese league let alone at the highest level.

I just hope that it isn't a huge mistake.

I haven't seen much of him, but he has been extensively looked at by the scouting team and Moyes. All the top clubs want him too, so that can also be a good sign.

It's a lot of money, but if they are reasonable with the pay structure, then it could be a good deal. His salary will be very low so as a package he will be reasonably priced.

FFP no doubt will help us, but it's good to see us finally paying out the money for players instead of letting Chelsea City and PSG outbid us. Moyes may not be SAF in many ways to our detriment but at least he doesn't appear as stubborn.
