Just read Fellaini's interview. Some will say he is making excuses but fair play to him, he seems up for the challenge. A poor 1st season but then so did Evra and Vidic. Not defending him as he has been truly dreadful but let's see if he is as good as his word.

He is just what we need :)

I have faith in him, he needs a goal and a run in a stable team. Bit of patience

At least he recognises his poor form, we all want to see every signing succeed.

Only difference was evra and vidic had never played in the premier league, fellainis played in it for 6 seasons now.

Bruce, Pally and Smikes were disappointing in their first seasons! Didn't do too bad after!

I once said that at Everton, Fellaini was a top class player and not too far from being considered world class ( though he would never reach those levels ).
He was as important as Baines for them, and when played in an advanced position, with tactics that suit him, he can be near unstoppable.

But, imo, Fellaini finds himself in the same deep rubbish-hole as Kagawa. Playing out of position in a team that does not suit his qualities.

The difference is, Kagawa suits a fluid system, based on quick passing and interchanging. Despite not fitting into the team atm, many of us hope that we move towards a system in which Kagawa thrives.

The problem with Fellaini is, the system that suits him is pretty much anti football when it comes to Manchester United fans, used to a more swashbuckling, expansive brand of football under Ferguson. We might have been more one dimensional in the last couple of seasons, but there was always a hint of magnificent footy there. Fellaini does not suit it, and he sure as hell does not suit Van Gaal's system.

Can he be reconverted into a defensive midfielder? Maybe. Can he be top class at it? probably not.

I'd give him another season to prove himself. He joined late and had a rough ride with injuries. He seems happy to be here and fight and may end up bein a useful player who is a bit of a different option. At the end of the day we all thought that he was one of the better midfielders in the league so if he can reproduce that form then we have a decent squad player on our hands.

I agree with Mick here. He is quality at what he does best but we don't typically go down that route. This is why the purchase of Mata was disappointing as well, not quick enough for a dynamic team and unfortunately our two big signings of last season won't suit a quick, footballing team that we are aiming to be.

I rate both of them very highly - but it is like what Spurs did with Soldado, wasted for the system and style.
