Just watched a replay of the full match and for me the biggest problem was not Rooney. For me it was the congestion in attacking midfield caused by not having a right winger.

Because Mata is cutting in he's pulling the defenders into the centre instead of pulling them out wide or making them turn and run towards they're own goal, (as a winger should). This in turn means the Newcastle defence could stay very compact for most of the game. In a rigid 4-3-3 (which is the famed LVG system) you need a big distance between both wingers to create space as it pulls the defenders marking them further apart. If this happens Rooney will start scoring again, simply put, Mata is our biggest problem.

If I could click the agree button a 1000 times I would this is exactly the reason imo hopefully by the end of the transfer window we will know whether we will have a RW to do the job needed and would love Mata to come central, here's to wishing👏

we have young that is right footed why is he not playing rw and mata in cam
