Great read, he sounds like he was a great man as well as a great manager. Pity some of today's lot are not like him, Fergie, Clough etc.

{Ed001's Note - I will have to do one on Clough at some point too. Done Fergie and Shanks, Clough must be next.}

Ed1 did you see France footballs greatest 100 managers the other week?

{Ed001's Note - no mate, but I heard Paisley was not even in the Top 10, which is ludicrous. He is arguably the best ever, but certainly there is no argument that he has to be in the top 10!}

It was shocking. Someone and Klopp even in the top 100 was questionable. Paisley was too low down. Same with Clough. Some odd choices in all.

No disrespect to Rinus Michels but SAF is above him. TBH I had to wiki him, SAF took a decent cup side to the biggest and most followed football institution in the world.

Agree with Ed Paisley should be number 2 in my opinion i don't care what anyone says Paisley is SAF of the 70/ 80s, if Paisley did what SAF did in the 90's Liverpool would be what Man Utd is now. He was just unlucky (well not unlucky as such) in my opinion to be before everything with the Premier League kicked off.

{Ed001's Note - I get that Michels did well, but he is nowhere near the best ever.}

The France Football list of top 50 managers had some rather odd places for managers. Klopp higher than Wenger was a strange one. I think 1,2 and 3 should have been Ferguson, Paisely and Cruyff - though some might dispute in what order. Del Bosque down in 33 was crazy also.

Ed001 - How good was Arrigo Sachhi? The French list puts him in 3rd place ahead of the other Italian managers. I understand his Milan side of the late 80's early 90's was very good but I wasn't aware he was so highly thought of.

{Ed001's Note - he was good, but it is hard to see how he could be ahead of so many others. He did well, but not to the extent the 3 you mentioned did. It just seems a bizarre list with little real sense or thought behind it. Maybe that is the point, just to get people talking rather than to actually reflect any kind of intelligent thought?}

That Milan side was good but I wouldn't put Sacchi in 3rd. I think Clough has been criminally underrated. Taking a club like Forest to European success is something you'd struggle to do on football manager never mind repeating it in real life.
