I have read that spurs are close to a deal for Reguilon, maybe we did not want him?

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 15 Sep 2020 19:07:01
theres talk of a madrid wanting a buyback clause there's no way we should even entertain that idea so for me i'm glad we walked away.
We definitely need a left back tho so hopefully we get telles tbh i would rather have him anyway.

2.) 15 Sep 2020 21:27:56
What is wrong with the buy back clause, just get big Phil Jones to change his name to Reguilon and off he goes to Madrid in a few years time.

Romero up for sale, Chelsea may be interested. Rumours keep on going.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 09 Sep 2020 11:08:48
Romero deserves to be a number 1. If he signed for Chelsea I'd wish him the best of luck. Anyone buying him woild get a very good keeper.

2.) 09 Sep 2020 14:27:36
He's been a class act whenever he has played for us. 39 clean sheets in 61 appearances is exceptional. Wherever he goes he deserves to be first choice and play every week.

3.) 09 Sep 2020 15:17:54
Wish him well. He would walk into 10 teams at least in the PL. Always done his best for us.

4.) 09 Sep 2020 17:13:44
It can’t be easy being a number 2 goalkeeper given the need to be ready at a moments notice. It must be difficult to step onto the pitch and do what needs to be done having sometimes not played for months at a time. Like others, I wish him all the best wherever he goes.

I am a little worried about who we will get to replace him as he’s arguably amongst the very best when it comes to backup keepers. We should be fine next season with Dave and Dean, but I’d be surprised if they’re both still at the club come the close of next summer’s transfer window.

07 Aug 2020 20:01:41
I thought we were interested in TORRES, is this the same one as City have signed? I am seeing the name Pau Torres.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 07 Aug 2020 21:20:35
City signed the winger torres. Pau is a cb.

2.) 08 Aug 2020 20:21:51
So did we want both?

3.) 08 Aug 2020 22:42:35
Neither i'd say.

27 Jul 2020 15:23:34
I'm reading of some sort of swap deal involving Sanchez and Perisic. Any Eds have a clue?

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed002's Note - That would make no sense.}

1.) 28 Jul 2020 04:55:42
Sanchez and skrinier swap makes full sense.

2.) 28 Jul 2020 08:04:53
Not for Inter it doesn’t. We need to get Sanchez off the books as his massive wages are a burden on the club. I doubt we’ll be asking for a large fee (if any fee at all) and will be looking to get rid of him whilst paying him as little as possible. Why would Inter give us one of their best players in exchange for a player who we would probably give away for nothing if push came to shove?

3.) 28 Jul 2020 10:48:05
Do you have any insight here, Ed002?
The press are saying Inter are serious about signing him and he is willing to take a pay cut, but Inter would still need United to help with wages?!
Is that true? Has that ever happened before?

Thanks a lot!

{Ed002's Note - Alexis Sanchez (LW/F) Inter were cooling a little over keeping him but he has agreed to take a significant cut in his financial demands. Inter will look to use players in part exchange which I doubt would suit Manchetser United who will look to a cash sale for a reasonably small amount.}

4.) 28 Jul 2020 23:55:10
Dare I say man utd are taking a sensible view on this one considering they are happy to take a small amount as a fee?

03 Jul 2020 07:55:40
Red Devil Updates have posted a report that BILD are saying Bellingham has signed for Dortmund for €23 million on a 5 year deal.

I must say that I am getting more and more disgusted with the elite teams of the world. Macclesfield have been given a winding up order for debts of £500,000. Southends case has been adjourned and they could be next. Lower level teams need money pumped down the leagues to survive. What does it matter though, Chelsea spend nearly £200 million on players and we are talking about £90 on one. Too much money at the top table for me.

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed001's Note - so less than 2 weeks' wages for Aubameyang is enough to destroy a club? Sickening.}

1.) 16 Sep 2020 18:13:14
Playing devils advocate but how can teams survive with gates of less than a few thousand?

I think an argument can be made that there are too many professional Clubs in England and that a re-structure of the 4 professional tiers of English football is almost inevitable in the not so distant future.

Macclesfield have an average attendance of under two thousand and unfortunately this just isn't enough to sustain a professional football Club!

Southend have an average gate of just over 6000. Sunderland average a shade over 30 000 and are in the same division. This is the reality of some lower league Clubs. Sadly some of them are just not financially viable and they can't all be saved.

The game will undoubtedly evolve over the next few years and some Clubs will be lost along the way!

2.) 16 Sep 2020 18:16:50
Or one week for Sanchez, greedy sods whne this I hundreds of peoples livelihoods.

3.) 16 Sep 2020 18:57:53
DLIB, they could all continue if the money in the game was spread out a bit more.

4.) 16 Sep 2020 20:01:09
It's true that these smaller clubs cannot realistically survive in such low attendances but with the billions in the game it is a disgrace that money does not filter down to them.

As important is the possibility of small clubs and their supporters to dream and in some cases like Wigan to achieve the seemingly impossible.

Also if the lower leagues do kot exist it lots the influx of players able to break into the game and progress to the higher leagues. That's not beneficial long term for the game in this country.

Maybe in this C.V. era all league clubs and the governing bodies could for once put petty jealousies and self interest aside and work for the common good and bring in a sensible workable set of responsible financial guidelines so that clubs stop spending stupid amounts of money and lower league clubs do not go bust.

5.) 16 Sep 2020 20:09:24
And we had some top level clubs furlough staff. and then spend millions on new players. Ridiculous- the FA must have some sort of provision to bail us clubs out. Sickening is bang on.

{Ed001's Note - it would have made sense if any club in the Prem that furloughed staff were simply banned from bringing in new players this summer. If they can't afford to pay the wages of staff, then they shouldn't be allowed to buy players. Surely that is the kind of thing FFP should be about?}

6.) 16 Sep 2020 21:05:08
The professional game for 92 plus clubs is sustainable as it stands.
Rule changes require creative and intelligent thinking.
Premiership clubs should be allowed partner with clubs in div 3 and div2 and use them as feeder clubs supporting them with players coaching support and financially to some degree. Cutting ties if they achieve championship status.
Players will develop the stars at that level would imorove. Clubs will get the opportunity to develop a sustainable business model.
Until then a transfer spend tax should be in place whereby a % of each fee paid goes into a fund for the lower league clubs to help them stay alive.

7.) 16 Sep 2020 22:37:53
Playing devils advocate even further, if we all supported the clubs where we were born, maybe they’d have more than 1,500 going per week. We are all to blame.

8.) 17 Sep 2020 17:54:32
So what it means is not only can the top level clubs can easily help sustain the lower tier sides, even some of the more experienced players can easily save some clubs from administration/ dissolvation. Essentially a De Gea or a Mohamed Salah could easily help out let alone Man Utd or Man City etc.

Mind you I am not trying to throw shade at the players I mentioned or anyone else actually.

Are Villa still winning?

Yes. Headline on The Sun website had me near pi$$ing with laughter.

RED MIST Aston Villa 1 Man Utd 0: Fuming fans demand more transfers as Solskjaer’s men flop to defeat in pre-season friendly 😂😂😂.

Looks like Levitt is been used by Giggs. Good luck mate.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 03 Sep 2020 22:53:04
Cantona how did he play? I think James and De Gea were mvp but i don't know how well Levitt played.

2.) 04 Sep 2020 04:18:26
He had a solid game, looked comfortable at international level albeit not against the strongest of competition. He is definitely ready to play every week at a higher level than Under 23's. I think a loan to the championship would be best for him this season.

I am a bit worried that DVB is not coming to us, maybe Milan or Roma or Barcelona. I have read a report his dad said he had his heart on this deal and they had been looking around Manchester and its Beautiful. Must be another city he has been shown around?

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 01 Sep 2020 15:33:38
I love Manchester, guess you’re not from here.

2.) 01 Sep 2020 15:48:39
It's going to happen.

Fabrizio said "here we go. " If he announced "James, your son isn't yours. here we go" I would just pack my bags and leave without question.

3.) 01 Sep 2020 15:59:45
Cantona. You can't legislate for the lack of humour in some.

4.) 01 Sep 2020 16:39:11
No mate, been enough times as have friends there. I love Manchester, but would not call it Beautiful.

5.) 01 Sep 2020 17:41:05
Cantona

I am from Manchester, born and bred and family before me. In the late 60’s my dad drove me into Manchester along Chester Road, back then it wasn’t a great place. Manchester is now a fantastic place, a cosmopolitan city with great suburbs. Funny, I have been to Milan, Rome and Barcelona, all great Cities but Manchester is up with them and they are each beautiful for different reasons.

6.) 01 Sep 2020 18:11:12
That's a great story Red Man. However Manchester is not a Beautiful.

7.) 01 Sep 2020 18:11:42
Ken,

I understood the joke, just see a lot of posts on here from United fans slagging off our city, gets a bit frustrating. If Liverpool fans did the same about their city they would defend it to the hilt.

8.) 01 Sep 2020 18:16:24
Well said Red Man! "This is the Place"

9.) 01 Sep 2020 18:35:19
I'm not from Manchester but have been many times over the years, mainly to watch games but I always stay for the weekend and I love the place its like my 2nd home even though I don't have a place there. I love it more than my hometown.

10.) 01 Sep 2020 19:10:54
I’m from Manchester, but never loved it. Love my club though. Each to their own, makes the world a more interesting place.

11.) 01 Sep 2020 21:28:57
Im from Birmingham, spent all weekend drinking with pals in salford and town (outdoors obviously) absolutely love the place 👍 did not trip over a single dead pit pony 😉.

12.) 02 Sep 2020 09:02:45
I’m with GDS in this, there too much sniping about our great city. Manchester has attitude and the Huge development is turning it into a truly cosmopolitan city. Add that the Uk is one of the most welcoming and tolerant countries in the world then I don’t see why we constantly think players will go elsewhere

As DLIB puts it ‘This is The Place’.

13.) 02 Sep 2020 09:41:00
DLIB,

That poem gives me goosebumps, proud to be from here.

14.) 02 Sep 2020 09:42:34
I am originally from Manchester. and I love it, fantastic city.

15.) 02 Sep 2020 10:59:08
I just don't like seeing Manchester and City in the same sentence :P.

16.) 02 Sep 2020 11:12:59
I was in Manchester last year -nice hotel in City centre for 2 nights,5 minutes walk from the big Primark store. -I thought it was a very nice city, long time since I was in the centre, 3 times in 25 years maybe - I was there for Little Steven and the disciples of Soul gig -Im hip like that. In a former life I was a regular visitor to Middleton, Clayton and then onto Littleborough lancs. once a month like clockwork as a sales rep.

{Ed002's Note - I have a very close old friend who is a member of LS&TDS.}

17.) 02 Sep 2020 12:08:58
Interesting ED02.Like many Springsteen fans I got in to L. S - I ve met him, Springsteen and most of ESB. LS certainly surrounds himself with great musicians -even vocalist Jessie Wagner has a great R+B album out now. Thanks for the updates, keep safe.

{Ed002's Note - I am not a Springsteen fan but there was an album last year that I did buy. I understand someone has mailed me the JW album but I don't think it has arrived yet. I saw them in London (when Paul McCartney showed up) as a guest of the keyboard player. And I went along with an old guitarist chum to a show in Paris three ago or so.}

18.) 02 Sep 2020 23:51:41
I saw McCartney in 1990, and Springsteen in 1993, both sensational gigs ed002, legendary performers.

Heard after what has happened with Maguire, we are going to bring in Joey Barton as a coach to keep him in check.

Woodward is negotiating the bail and is prepared to pay £100 up front with the remainder in instalments.

2.) 21 Aug 2020 17:05:06
Heard Bruno is heading over to Greece to take the penalty.

3.) 21 Aug 2020 21:39:52
Hopefully Woodward isn't the one negotiating his release or we will definitely need to buy a new CB.

Ed047, even if Shappy wanted him or was (gagging), I can only presume this was when he was 24/ 25? We would like him on a short term deal, but Liverpool have got him. I prefer DVB to be long term.

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed047's Note - Shappy has a habit of just saying what suits the moment, despite what he may have said before.

I really have no interest in who he’s gone to, was possibly going to, didn’t go to or any other variables surrounding his transfer.

Ed002, sorry mate but it's not the place. I support it, but not in the way he does it.

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed001's Note - so you mean a place where he has suffered racism is not the place for him to take a stand against racism? It is very much the place in the most middle-class white-dominated sport in the world to make a point and remind them of basic human rights. I can't understand how anyone can not see that it is not a political issue to want basic human rights for all people regardless of colour of skin, religion or any other thing that is used to keep one portion of society downtrodden.}

Shappy I was going to post very similar thoughts. We are spending the same or more than we did at any time, the club is worth just as much as it was in the past, always in top 3 worth over £3 Billion. Just think if we had Mike Ashley as owner.
