Looks like Ronaldo is getting the sack judging by reports. Good riddance.

Back the manager, get a striker in January and build this club properly on a United front.

I'd have been advocating for Ivan Toney as a realistic January option before the gambling stuff came out this week.

Realistically, I can't see the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Osimhen or Vlahovic, who'd all be good signings, leaving their clubs in January. Though we have apparently looked at a couple of them.

My bet would be Goncalo Ramos if anyone comes in at all though. Again it'd be a big spend for a January signing.

RJ i agree.

I get the feeling we may be offered Felix, but not sure he is the type of forward ETH would want.

Is that betting thing that big that we shouldn't go after Toney?

Not necessarily, I just don't really know what the consequences could be for that. There are rumours of a long ban, 6 months plus. Not sure how true or feasible that is mind you.

I think we need to see what the outcome of the Toney betting thing is before we can either rule him out or consider him as an option.

He could get a slap on the wrist warning or a ban (for how long who knows) .

As for what kind of striker EtH wants I think that is much less clear.

Most people seem to think he will want a striker in the mould of Haller. Strong, tall line leading type striker.

Maybe in an ideal world that is the type of striker EtH wants. But I don't think it's safe to assume that.

He also played Tadic as his striker for 2 whole season's. Who isn't even a striker really, but a very different kind of forward altogether.

My guess would be that EtH wants a striker who can link up with his other forwards and midfielders so that they can play a controlling possession based game.

He likes his forwards to be comfortable rotating round and switching positions.

Haller in that sense was kind of the exception to the rule.

I think it will depend on who is available that is deemed good enough.

If I had to put money on it I'd go with Goncalo Ramos. Young, talented, wouldn't cost the earth and is capable of playing in several ways and can rotate around with the other forwards.

Did you see that Ivan Toney has denied that betting cost him his place in the World Cup squad and he's gutted he won't be involved in Monday's 2-2 draw with Iran

??.

Joey Barton was charged with around the same amount of breaches and he was given an initial 18 month ban (which I believe was reduced in the end to 6 months or maybe reduced by 6 months? ) so Toney could end up with a fairly lengthy ban.

Gotta feel for the guy. By all accounts pretty much every Tom Dick and Harry loves a cheeky flutter on their all-too convenient Sky Bet app :D
Only one per tournament for me, 40/ 1 Argentina to win and Messi golden boot.

Neville has been suggesting we need a dignified ending to Utd's greatest ever player.
I hope that happens, but I don't see Ronaldo as that. He went on to become one of the greatest, but at the time I was more a fan of the likes of Cantona, Giggs, Becks. I'm sure a few others would suggest old Besty was up there too. Even Jordi Cruyff.

Shappy tripper got banned for 10 games fit 2 offences toney has been charged with 232 offences o vet a prolonged period. There is a 12 game plus ban on the way no doubt maybe 6 months unless he can prove his innocence.
@spenno if he his guilty there can be no feeling sorry for him.
Basic rule for all professionals. They can't bet on football games of any sort.
He is an idiot if guilty and brings into question his decision making and suitability for being a Manchester United player.

Ken, that's why I said he shouldn't be considered until after this situation is resolved. He might be cleared, or he might face a lengthy ban.

I agree that the situation at the very least brings into question his decision making and intelligence.

But to be fair to him none of us know the details of the alleged offenses or the context around them.

Either way I can't see him being a January target now.

I can't see any player who is fundamental to their team being easily obtainable mid-season. The only exceptions being those in the last 6 months of their contract a side can get a small pile of cash for rather than nothing in summer.

Ivan Tony is a vervant Liverpool fan.

Jordan Henderson was a boyhood United fan, Gerrard and Carragher were boyhood Everton fans, Aaron Ramsey was a boyhood United fan but chose Arsenal.

As fans we have this idea that we would only play for the team we support, and would never play for a direct rival.

However, I'm sure if Manchester United offered Ivan Toney a contract worth 125k per week (which is a whole 104k per week more than he gets at Brentford) then he would take the deal.

For footballers this isn't a passion it's their career, and earning money and the chance of winning things is more important than the posters you had on your wall as a kid.

I'd imagine if Toney had the choice of United or Liverpool then he'd probably pick Liverpool. But if the choice is United of Brentford I'd imagine he'd make the same choice as Eriksen.
