If Mourinho needs Rooney to formally ask for a transfer before they will make a third and final bid, can it therefore be assumed that he did not submit a transfer request in March as alleged by SAF? If this is the case then Rooney, in my opinion, deserves an apology from MUFC for misrepresenting his position and seeking to alienate him from the club's supporters.

I think that that SAF was quite possibly "getting his own back" for the 2010 episode when Rooney negotiated a new mega-deal.

Ferguson said he had 'asked' to leave

Thank god somebody has pointed out what I've been thinking all day!

I think Rooney needs an apology from the club, and from all the haters on here! If its true that he has never asked to leave he deserves a lot of credit for keeping quiet after all that's been said against him and not mouthing off like Suarez all summer.

Fergie never said that Rooney had handed in a transfer request, he said he wanted to leave, them two things are different.

I believe Rooney spoke to Fergie about leaving and it was Fergie's way of getting his own back telling the public that he wanted to leave, he never forgave him for the way he treated the club.

I don't believe Rooney wants an apology, that was just an excuse so that he could get away from the club, everything all summer has been to engineer a move and United have called his bluff. The whole 'upset and angry' episode about Moyes quotes that the press and Mourinho have now used as if they are true was all engineered again by Rooney's camp to get a move away from the club.

Sydney said in about March that Rooney would have to leave or sign a new contract this summer or we are in a bit of a tricky position with him going into the final 2 years of his contract. This is now going to be the case and we need to get it resolved or we will have the same stories in January and next summer that we could do without.

Pretty widely reported that he did not formally ask, but suggested to Fergy that if he wasn't first choice maybe he'd be better moving elsewhere.

Don't think the club need to apologise.

Rooney either needs to knuckle down and play better, or request a transfer and move on. All this rumour from sources "close to" is getting silly.

Chris

I'm not a big Rooney fan but I do think SAF held a grudge and wanted to have the last word. A bit sad really but whilst we won the league, some of his pronouncements last year were a little cringy

Leaving has clearly been in his mind after RvP coming in and stealing his position, think he fell out with SAF too. He could have come out and said "I want to stay the rumours are false" or "I want to leave" but the fact he hasn't I think means he's still undecided on what he wants and is in no rush to make a decision. Maybe now SAF isn't manager but infact Moyes is maybe Rooney feels more confident about being selected to start most games, especially big games. Time will tell!

Yeh I agree AJH I was just pointing out fergie never said he handed in a transfer request simply that he asked to leave.
I have mentioned my stance on the situation many times. This could of been handled better by both partys. To be fair to u mate so have u. Tbh the way I look at it is, we need a worldclass replacement before we sell as it does seem Woodward can't seem to get a deal over the line as of yet, if we can't he stays advertises himself for 6-12 months then hopefully we can get that replacement.
Or he signs a new contract on less money as a sign of commitment to us and himself and the one i'm now thinking could be the best for both partys involved is the 2nd option.
