Would people take Blind, Vidal & Rojo if it was offered now as a take it or leave it offer? We clearly need that attacking player, but I hope we get our defence and midfield sorted first.

I would be very pleased with that for now. Plenty more transfer windowsto come. Rome wasn't bui;t in a day and all that!

2.) 14 Aug 2014
Easy. Yes. We have plenty of short term options in attack when the likes of Adnan, Kagawa and Welbeck are sitting on the bench. Not so much at the back and in midfield.

Rather slimmer pickings than expected. Even allowing for the more difficult buying environment, there would seem now to be clear issues with Woodward's player negotiating skills. He has proved peerless as a sponsorship salesman; but that is a different skill-set to a buyer. In my view a specialist negotiator is now essential. But the first priority is to knock the wretched bin-dippers off our perch.

Ill take jus vidal and rojo.

Yes that would be fantastic to be honest.

Basingstoke

Woodward's main job is to bring money into the club, its what he spends most of his time doing and succeeds at it.

It's a conflict of interests to have the same man in charge of outgoings. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that he 'struggles' to sign players.

I still think the club's main goal is 4th place or above with the least possible expenditure.

My main worry is, if LVG isn't a miracle worker (he isn't), what happens when we finish 5th?

Personally I could see LVG resigning, then destroying his employers in his media and telling the fans how it really is.

RED

His main job is to ensure that the club/company is successful - it is not limited to sponsorship deals. Having said that he has pulled off two of the most important deals in the club's history over the past year, and this is what sets us apart. We have sound revenue patterns going forward, and the basis for spending what we want to spend, more or less irrespective of FFP constraints. This is the Glazer model that will enable them to sell off their shares for full value (because long-term income streams underpin market values).

But the weakness is always going to be the quality of the team. Woodward did not seem guilty of the Ferguson issues of hubris. I imagine that he was astonished to see Moyes appointed. He has acted well to get Van Goal. Van Goal will stick at the task. If we get to a UCL position, we will be able to intensify the re-building process.

But at that stage, the buying strategy has to be better handled.

What a daft question Syd mate, I expect better of you.

Let me rephrase your question for you,

Would you take one world class player(Vidal), one good player with potential to become great(Rojo) and one extremely useful squad player who can fulfil multiple positions we are weak in(Blind), all three vastly improving the squad and the first team or would you rather we play a silly game of wait and see maybe not getting anyone?

Why on earth would anyone say no?

We have some of the best attacking players in the league, yes a world class wide player would give us more options but imo it could also muddy the water.

Imagine if we had a player such as Di Maria in the squad, and the team is struggling to adapt to the new formation, it would be too easy to revert to type and go 433 rather than try and perfect and iron out the kinks in the new formation. Some people would think that its fine to do that, but bare in mind the club have bought and trained players with the idea of playing one way to try and switch half way through a season would be very detrimental. Not to mention the fact that Mata and one of Rooney or RvP would miss out in a true 433 which doesn't play with a true No.10, Then we are left with a situation where two of our world class players miss out on playing or half to play in a role unsuited to them. Then we are left with square pegs in round holes again.

Switching formation at certain times can be useful, but to total go in another direction midway through a season can be disasterous.

That's why maybe missing out on Di Maria could be a good thing.

Shappy, it's the talk of Cuadrado, Di Maria & Benatia. I would be happy with two underwhelming players like Rojo and Blind as long as we got Vidal.
