If we sign one more player that is more than enough!

We don't want a situation were we have 8 new players all learning to gel,

I think 4 in this window is plenty and then if needs be add 1 or 2 in January if we are not were we want to be !

If De Gea, Valdes, RVP, Hernandez and Evans all leave and Wilson, Pereira and Januzaj get loans i hope we sign more than 1 more player. I believe we will sign 3 more players, making 6 in total. a CB a forward of some description and a keeper. maybe a CM as well but i don't see all 6 or 7 signings being in the first XI

Footballers hair is a contentious issue and I think learning to gel is a good topic!

Seriously though, I think we will be brining in at least four but most likely more. Otamendi will take us to 4 and then a striker seems likely and its still probable we get Schniderlin too and this is without the keeper situation.

We have to trust that LVG (who is obsessed with his systems) has now identified which of the current players can fit within the systems - those who can't are clearly being moved on now. The new recruits are being identified as being familiar with LVG Philosophy/systems and equally important they have more than one string to their bow IE able to interchange positions and have are comfortable and experienced in cover 2 different positions.

It's all well and good saying that we should only sign one more - but we still need a striker, a goalkeeper, at least one CB, another midfielder and, imo, another winger (especially if ADM leaves). If we were to only sign one more - I'd be interested to know who you would suggest we target? As far as I can see it's incredibly difficult to prioritise one position over the other.

Assuming DDG is off - a keeper is essential. but based on how exposed DDG was last season - a top CB has to be equally important. With Falcao, RVP, (probably) Chico, Henríquez and Keane all leaving - a striker is a must and LVG's comments the other day confirm this. On paper our midfield isn't in too bad a shape - but in practice Herrera is the only player I see as a dead cert (Carrick and Basti won't be available for every game and I see Blind as backup, Felli as a plan B and Mata as a player that does not fit into LVGs preferred formation). On the wings we have Depay, Young, Valencia, ADM and Januzaj - but I expect Januzaj to go out on loan, ADM to leave and Valencia to be used as backup. That leaves Young and Depay which just isn't enough. Even if ADM stays - it's a weak area for us which doesn't bode well given that it's the key element of LVG's preferred 4-3-3 formation.

I can see Mata heading back to Valencia and expect that a deal for Otamendi is close to being agreed if it hasn't been already. From a commercial point of view it doesn't make sense for us not to sell DDG to Madrid and so I fully expect it to happen. Lloris will hopefully be the man who replaces him. Cavani and Muller both offer a little versatility in that they can play wide or through the middle and so I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them signed with our interest in Schneiderlin being rekindled once other areas are sorted. Another big signing wouldn't surprise me in the slightest - especially if Mata and ADM end up leaving.

We've already lost Falcao, RVP, Nani and Cleverley from our squad and look set to lose another six or seven (with Rafael, Chico, Evans and DDG being all but certainties).

If we lose 8 plus players from a squad that wasn't good enough to break into the top 3 - why do you think that we won't need to bring in as many as 8 to replace them (especially as we're going to be playing more games this season?).

In (£90m-ish plus big signing)
Schneiderlin (£28m)
Otamendi (£32m)
Cavani (Swap)
Lloris (£30m)
Bale/Muller/Ramos (£75m/£55m/£35m)

Out (£90m-ish)
Mata (£30m)
ADM (Swap)
Valdes (£5m)
Chico (£7m)
DDG (£30m)
Rafael (£10m)
Evans (£8m)

Red seven - mata and adm won't leave so that means we don't need a forward but it does still leave us needing a GK and a CB which would make its 5/6 players in this summer just like the summer previous

Losing mata and adm would be way too much of a squad overhaul not to mention they are our most creative players

Big V, I think you make a fair point about there being too much change but I think its inevitable for us this summer. We defo need a CB and ST and possibly another CM.

I do think making so many changes could cost us in terms of it taking time to gel but its the result of a few years of poor transfer strategy resulting in many gaps I quality.

If we do get 3 further good signings I hope we will be in a position next summer to just tinker or add the last piece of quality, as going forwards it will benefit us to have consistency from season to season.

DSG - do you not think that LVG's comments last season about us not having a 20 goal a season striker and recently saying that we lack striking options is a clear indicator that we're looking for a striker?

Do you not think that Blanc coming out and saying that they hope to do a deal for Di Maria but are worried because a lot of other big clubs are interested is a sign that he might be on his way out?

I fully expect one of ADM and Mata to leave this summer (if not both) and expect us to sign a £30m+ striker regardless.
