A lot of folk claimed Pogba was currently in the top 5 players in the world when signed on at United and a shoe in to be a future Ballon D'Or winner. My question is what other player in the top 5 or 10 have moved clubs and failed to make an immediate impact?

Ronaldo did it at Madrid. Suarez and Neymar at Barca. Aguero and KDB did it at City. Sanchez at Arsenal. The list goes on.

A case could be made for Bale but there was more club politics behind that at Madrid than anything else and I wouldn't say Bale was currently top 5 for me.

This is an open question as a top 5 is open to self interpretation so I would be interested to know what top of the line player who you would consider top 5 or so started really poorly after making a big move?

All the above mentioned went into there natural playing positions, unless we play 433 I don't see how we get the best out of pogba, I do think Jose is working his way to this but he doesn't trust our defensive players enough yet, he's got DDG, bailly and Toni who are doing good jobs, I personally think Shaw should be trusted but the other centre back and defensive mid is where we are a liability tbh. At least I hope weare working towards are more fluid 433, another transfer window is needed as ludicrous as it sounds, most are not Jose's players remember that. Some aren't good enough which he is probably shocked by and others just don't care enough, we've had a ridiculous 3 year spell with poor choices made and it's had an effect on the club as a whole, I've said it numerous times but this is going to take time, yes more time cz we have a new manager, style, system again and hopefully we will stick with it the fans and everyone stick with it cz it will come good I have faith in that.

it looks like jose wants to play pogba at 6 . deschamps plays him there for france .
and i'm not surprised, he has everything to be worldclass in that role .
juventus played a different system but that doesn't mean pogba can only play 1 role .

Because pogba has played at his best for france and juve in a 3, we want him to be playing in his best most natural position and really we should be building the team around him for £89m BUT I don't think jose can play him in a 3 cz he's not got the players to do it with him yet, I'm speaking from a hypothetical Jose viewpoint or Jose doesn't intend on playing 433 at all. To me I think carrick with Herrera or Morgan and pogs is best but they don't appear to be fancied by Jose for whatever reason.

like you say jose doesn't really play like that .
juve played with a back 3 at times they had a very good back 3 or 4, strong team front to back.

a lot of time pogba had a free role or played the 10 he never just played left of a 3.
ive seen him play well at both 6 and 10

i don't see why he can't play 6 or 10
and to be honest he has everything to be amazing at 6

why do you think he can't play there?

6 for me should be his position, he has everything to play there. I'd like to see him sit and dictate the play occasionally making bursts. I'd like to see an industrious midfielder beside him like herrera/ schneiderlin.

I still think jose is figuring it out.

Jred, I just don't see him being effective at 6, not effective enough anyway. Number 10 maybe in time but every time I've seen him play well it's been in that position. I don't think he's defensively minded at all.

is the fact he is not defensively minded not the problem.
he says he wants to be the best player in the world so he needs an all round game. at the moment he looks like the kid in the school yard who only wants to do the good stuff, shoot and dribble. which is what allergi give him a hard time about.
he doesn't score a lot of goals or create a lot, if he wants to be the best he needs to improve his all round game .
angel is right he has the game to play there, he won't dictate a game from the left of the park and if he wants to be a top player that's what he needs to do .

Is it too much to ask to ask him to get up and down the pitch like a proper midfielder should? We used to manage fine with two box to box midfielders.

I know the game has changed but I'd like to see him run around at least a little bit. Of course the manager has to help him with the right amount of rest.

It shouldn't really matter where he plays. If he has enough desire he should be able to boss games from all over the pitch. The problem is we're not seeing that kind of hunger and will to win.

Bale never played rw before Real Madrid, KDB has played a lot on the right side at city, Sanchez played mostly rw at Barca, played ever other attacking position at Arsenal, Ozil played great in the beginning in a very different role then he did in RM.
