Report on the tv tonight "United will not be looking to buy and sell "a huge number of players" this summer, according to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward."

Oh deep joy. The excuse he used " it will de-stabilise the team"

Makes a change from "no value"

To be fair he actually said that transfer activity would be broadly in line with previous summers with circa 3 players being sold and a similar number coming in potentially 1 or 2 more. So potentially 5 players coming in which is roughly what people on here have been saying we need.

Let's just hope the yanks puppet does not make the same horlicks of it as he did last summer. I don't see why we don't hire David Gill as a negotiator/ facilitator for the the transfer windows. Does his current role preclude him from doing so due to conflicts of interest?

Which makes sense if you think about it.

We need a left back, centre back and two midfielders. Not lots of signings in the scheme of things. Add to that some promoted youth.

Regards departures well evra, Rio, vidic and giggs are all out contract. No sales but four gone. We're not really going to count macheda and bebe are we? In terms of first team squad sales it looks like nani, Anderson and either or both kagawa and Hernandez. So lots leaving but not many sales.

Huggy

Not a bad idea on Gill, certainly to consider his experience, although I heard he was a negotiator on the Mata deal but no idea if true.

He did state it would not be a 'typical' Manchester United Transfer window where 3 come in and 3 go out. 5 is a realistic target, 3 key main well known targets. With maybe 2 young/fringe players also. Who these will be will be more interesting.
I'd love to see Vertonghen, Kroos and Reus as those 3. With maybe Moreno/Shaw, then a younger Center Mid; Halliovic for example. It'll certainly be an interesting one.
