Anyone claiming Ed Woodward needs to be sacked is completely wrong. But hear me out. He needs to be relieved of football related issues (transfers, contracts, etc) but he has been amazing for the commercial side of the club and without these deals we wouldn't be in such good FFP shape despite the glazer debt. My suggestion? Hire a director of football, not SAF or someone like that who would have opinions that could clash with the manager, but someone who performs similarly to Zidane at Madrid or txiki at city. Sitting across from the board of juve or Madrid and sitting across from the board of Some Japanese air conditioning company are very different situations. The amazing thing to me is how Woodward can be a 10 on the commercial side and a 0 on the football side. I'm in awe of the deals he's arranged for the club with Adidas, Chevy, etc etc etc but I'm equally in disgust when viewing our recent transfer windows under his leadership. Agree/disagree? Suggestions for candidates?

I couldn't agree more, have the same thoughts. I think Van Gaal may move into that kind of role if/when Giggs takes over. He was offer DOF role at Liverpool. I honestly have no idea in how the role works or what kind of knowledge/experience you would need to be good at it, one thing I can be sure of is that Ed is not the man for it at the moment. He may well be good enough with a few windows 'Practice' but in a few windows time we could be as far down as 7/8 - Permanently. Here's hoping the last 10 days are good to us.

Exactly what I think and the mani would use is beckham. Loves the club was a great player and still the most famous man in the world. U see how Hollywood a listers and modern players get star struck around him.

In theory it seems like a good idea but in practice I doubt it would work. This is simply because LvG wouldn't want someone working above him on the football side of things.

I think a better idea and one the club seem to be using is getting a third party involved to act as a go between as Ed clearly lacks something in that area. Maybe we could do something similar to what Real have done in the past and use a former great player to make approaches to butter up the players and help speed up the transfer. I would imagine players would be more impressed speaking to Cantona, Scholes or Beckham than talking to Ed.

I can see becks being perfect for the role for the reasons above and the fact that his family moved back to London. And he wouldn't have to be in Manchester to do the job. Could also be the first step towards eventually being the face of a group of investors who buy the club once the glazers clear the debt and can sell the club debt free.
