As always I look to the Ed's as guidance, who is the amateur team we send in for negotiations? So we want £75 million plus for Lukaku and Inter offer less. Leicester want £80 million for Maguire and Sporting want £62 million for Fernandes. The club can't hold out for a full fee for Lukaku if they won't pay full fees to other clubs. My prices may be wrong, just what I have gathered from social media.

Are you saying that in order to stick to your guns about the valuation you put on your own player (Lukaku), the club should pay whatever is the valuation is that the selling club has (Maguire)?
It may be just me that I wouldn’t recommend you to be a part of a negotiation team.

Or you could look at it the other way. The club are getting flack for not lowering their asking price for Rom and they are getting flack for not paying the full asking price for Maguire. They can’t win. Objectively, RL is a much better player than HM and so expecting to be able to bring in the same amount for Lukaku as we would spend on Maguire seems fair enough to me.

The real issue here is the lack of alternative targets. I feel like SAF would have identified several players for each position allowing us to simply move on when clubs slapped ridiculous valuations on our first choices.

£80m for Maguire is ridiculous. There can’t be too many CBs out there that couldn’t be purchased for that sum and I really don’t see HM as being anywhere near one of the best in the world, neither in terms of ability nor potential. He’d be a step up on what we have at the moment, but for that kind of sum I’d be expecting more.

CSF as the guys have said that logic can be easily flipped the other way around. If we are expected to pay full whack they why should we expect less for our players?
